F-Body Road Racing and Autocross Forums _ General Discussion _ Southwest Ohio Spectator Drags?

Posted by: 91banditt2 Aug 25 2022, 07:13 PM

Does anyone know of any asphalt circle/oval track spectator drags around southwest Ohio, the tri-state area Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky?

Hmmm, not much left as far as asphalt ovals go in SW Ohio. Kil-Kare is autocross and drift only. Queen City Speedway has been closed a really long time now. SW Indiana has like one asphalt oval that's mostly figure 8 and is basically Louisville. Florence Speedway is dirt and Kentucky Speedway is probably still covered in F-150s waiting for computer chips.

Gonna try and make the autocross at Kilcare Sunday
Do you mean Tri-State drag strip? I actually live just a few minutes where that was.

There's a couple Instagram pages that I follow that show Spectator drags on asphalt circle tracks and it looks like a blast, would love to do something like that once I get the car done.

I watch those on YouTube sometimes. Seems like most of the ones I see are from the Northeast... err well more northeast than us. And Canada.

Holy Crap! I drive by every day going to work where this was and have been for over 20 years now, I'm sitting at my desk and I can be there in literally less than 5 min. I had never heard of Queen City Speedway or Tri-County as it was originally called till you mentioned it.

Huh, I guess I haven't lost my mind yet. Anyway, that track would have been prime for spectator drags. I'd just be worried about tearing my car up in a crash on an oval since a unibody isn't going to make it back from a wall hit. Street Stocks were 2nd Gens for a long time but they added so many bars the cars essentially weren't unibody anymore and didn't have crumple zones like the 3rd Gens.

I've seen enough asshattery on those videos that I wouldn't take anything I cared about. I'd consider throwing a fast beater together, but nothing that would make me cry when someone stuffs me into a wall.
