I'm in the process myself; building a CMC car. So far the hard part (for me it may be a limited skill set) was getting the clutch master mounted on the firewall in the right place. I found "it" on the third try so I chose to clean up the holes into a more regular opening and weld new metal in with the hole in the right place.
I forget where I've seen the sticky, LS1LT1.com, LS1tech, ls2.com - but there are several out there with parts lists and things to look out for. Good luck. |

I followed this write up pretty much letter by letter by myself except for muscling the trannies out and in, my dad helped there, but it is really easy. I just got mine in a couple of weeks ago in the driveway with some jack stands and jacks and it was pretty easy. I just made sure I didn't rush anything and get impatient. Cutting for the master cylinder wasn't too bad I just used the bracket that mounts the clutch pedal drilled the holes from there then measured the u bolt compared to where the master sat in it. I tried to is a inch and a half hole sole to do that but like the write up says use a 1 5/8 inch hole saw. |

In the various 3rd gen swaps I've done, I've used the support bars that swing down to the master cylinder from the pedal pivot bolt and the U bolt for the master cylinder to set the spacing. I "punched" the indents with the U bolt, drilled them and then used a hole saw on one car and a greenlee punch on the other to punch the large hole for the master. I've done a couple this way and it lines 'em up perfect every time.

I am also looking into doing this in the spring. I have a 94 auto car and wanting to do a budget t56 swap.

Yep, me too. The scariest part for me was removing the steering column but it wound up being quite easy. I got the pedals & clutch master mounted the first day by myself and then did the tranny swap the next day with help. This was one of those OMG what have I done moments. Did it on mine, not that hard.
Mount the pedals and tranny (without the shifter), scribe marks for holes for the clutch master cylinder on the firewall using the pedal bracket as a template and from under the car, scribe lines around the shifter area. Then remove tranny and pedals and cut the holes out ... that's a easiest way to do it. Unlike you though, I have a hardtop car and want t-tops so I may be cutting into to soon (already have all parts needed). |
