The tight fisted jerks controlling my county would never buy anything like that. But if they did, I would LOVE to watch them try to drive them.

I would love to see the Michigan State Police with one of those. My car isn't registered for the street so I have nothing to fear anyway! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Now that would be funny , a plastic fantastic as a cop car. I sure would like to see the justification writeup for that one and then post during a re-election campaign

Hey, they can always say, "well we saved the taxpayers revenue by not buying eggbeaters (helicopters)!". (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/icon_lol.gif)

But then, just how much less are those things gonna be than a basic cop chopper?? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/gr_eek2.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dunno.gif)

Someone in another thread said Bob Lutz confirmed it's a photoshop. I've not seen that first hand, but it seems plausible.

NYS Police use LS1 powered 4th Gens in rural areas to patrol areas prone to high speed trucking etc.. Upstate Rte. 17 has several in service. Don't think the State Police would spend the extra $$$ for a ZR-1 though.

I've seen LS1 cars in service in Georgia and I think one of the Carolinas as well. They do like their Camaros for chasing down speeders.

Florida (FHP) has a bunch (probably 200) of the Camaro LS1 cars (B4C?)...and a bunch of big Tahoes as well. They traded their old Mushtang 5.0 in on the Camaros. I guess the reasoning is they get paid so crappy, they might as well have a nice car. Locals (city and sheriff) seem to like the Crown Vics. The local sheriff here just bought some Chrysler hemi stuff too.

The Vette photo may be photoshopped, but a lot of departments actually do get these (and other cool cars) from drug seizures. Some of the local departments keep them (rather than auctioning them), paint them up to do parades and other PR stuff.

Yes...I was busted by one of them several years ago in Plattsburgh, NY on my way to an F1 race in Montreal. I saw him cruising on the other side with his lights on, and said to my buddies; "check out the white Z28 cop car chasing someone".....who knew he would tool through the median and pull me over. That was an 86 in a 65 (21 over is 6pts....20 over would have been 4pts). The cop tried to get me to commit to a much higher speed, but I told him I was just following the blue taurus for the last few hours. Probably trip digit at times. I was in my 95 Honda Accord at the time, and I know he saw my "I'd rather be driving my 01 Z28..." license plate frame. He gave me a hard time and told me I needed to catch up to the BMW he had just nabbed at 98mph. When he pulled away, he was borderline lighting up the tires. I was very pissed! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif) Through the help of family in NY, it was knocked down to a 2pt. failure to yield.

It's a good thing that Louisiana doesn't do "points". My driving record would look like the stats of a pro basketball game.

I was driving north on I-85 from Charlotte a few years ago at night. It was about 9:00 PM and I noticed a set of headlights waaaaay behind me. It was during the NCAA Basketball Championships, and I took my eyes off the road trying to find a station to scores, or a game. A second later, a 4th gen Z-28 went by me going at least 130mph, and probably considerably more. I was running over 70, and he was gone in a second. No emergency lights, flashers, nothing. Glad I didn't drift into his lane!

I had a similar situation happen to me towing the enclosed trailer to Thunderhill. I was on a very straight section of four lane freeway which is separated by a large grassy median. I'm pretty vigilant about checking my rear view mirrors - some a hole in a Porsche blew by me in the fast lane at upwards of 130mph. I did not see him, and if I had decided to make a lane change to pass someone he was going so fast he would not have had time to react. I spent the rest of the morning thinking about the greasy spot that could have happened so easily there.

beware when going through Oklahoma:

Much cheaper way to intercept speeders.

Glad I didn't see one of those on my cross-country trips when I was on I-40!! I did get pulled over in OK in 2001, but I got two warnings - one for following too close (everybody "accordioned" when the lead car of our 5-car pack slowed too quickly, and the other for doing 85 in a 70. The trooper told me (and I quote) "if you gonna do 85, you need eight car lengths, have a nice day."
