Well, not long ago I bought an SCCA T1 C5 Corvette...blew up the brand new Katech engine it came with (tune was leaned out + clogged fuel filter (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) ), and have gotten 3 track days since I got the car now; the video is of my 3rd time in the car with a vintage group VARA running their Club Racer group..this was also my 2nd time on the track so I'm still learning it (on scrubs none less).

Full video here:

broken into 4 parts here:

First off - nice video capture! I love the rearview - what system are you using?

Looks like you have a good habit of following the racing line, not the guy in front. The first BMW (the red/yellow one) went off line a few times, but you stayed at the apexes.

When you get by someone, shut the door. A couple times, you have passed that white BMW or the black Porsche and could have moved over to prevent them from passing you in the braking zones. But, you stayed out wide, and they snuck back on the inside.

But, that is really my only piece of advice! Other than about 20 seconds of stuff, the race was perfect! Looks like you got a handle on the car, and it suits you.

What kind of BMW was that white one? It was fast!

Congrats on the win!!

I just got a new camera for the front: Contour HD, I had it in standard video capture by accident, but it records in HD (wine country carries it), and the rear is the GoPro wide; I have a GoPro regular for in car looking at me, but took it out to put on my formula ford because i had an incident the day before where i was following a guy and I pulled his draft and in a straight away section, he decided to brake check me when I was already a couple feet off his gearbox, tore up my nose and they never black flagged him or believed me. (he happens to be the head race instructor..and that's "highly unlikely" for him to have done (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) )

Thanks! I am pretty comfortable in it, but I need more seat time..a lot more. I'm about 4-5 sec/lap slower than the T1 guys right now at Fontana (so far the only track i'm way behind on). Ya I know what you mean as far as shutting the door on them, I was trying to race safe and knew they were faster than me on the Roval so I kind of let them go there. And not covering the line at other corners, I wasn't looking behind me (mainly bc my mirrors are useless), so I really didn't see where anyone was going...I didn't mention it but my power steering was on/off throughout the race and a couple times prevented me from getting the car where I wanted it (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif) I blew a couple apexes like the one after I passed the white BMW (of course I passed him and going into the kink PS went out, and back on after I exit, and off again for that hairpin (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) ). Visibility is also terrible with a Hans on and trying to look over my right shoulder at where he went to; I thought he put his nose in the apex under my rear fender so I thought I was avoiding contact.

Other than something in a NASA group, I have no idea what that thing was other than fast/loud! The day before I almost annihilated that red/yellow BMW bc he missed a shift in qualifying. I was actually surprised I was even able to out-brake them with their Brembo's all the way around. I have video of a couple of the BMW's (red/yellow and the white one) as well as that porsche going at it from a couple weekends ago with NASA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6a688YBf3U

that porsche that comes flying in at the end was him (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/nutkick.gif)

Congrats on the win bud, one of these days i'll post my vids!

Tip!

Take it up to the wall for T1 then let come down to the 2nd strip of track and don't lift until braking for T3 (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif)

It's a fun track, but a bit intimidating in the oval (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) I went out to Pheonix last year and did the Roval there, fun and much less intimidating because it's only about half the size as ACS

Thanks! This was also my first ever overall...not saying much since I need to drop a few seconds still but it feels good regardless.

Do you think I should be in 4th or 5th through it? Redline is about 7200, at the end of the straight I'm in 4th at about 6500 or a little higher, I imagine 4th because with the size of banking it'll slow me down too much if in 5th?

Oh, and I saw some pics of you guys out there the other weekend, how'd it finish for you?

Well I shift to 5th about 200ft before start/finish. But i run 3.73 gears and only put down 310hp but i'm wide open the whole way!

DNS on Sat, I broke the bellhousing & clutch in practice. 2nd out of 2 cars (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) with a Autozone clutch! That i broke also!

Gotcha, well I'll be out there a couple more times this year so I'll keep practicing and working on it...that's where I lose most of my time comparing videos to the other T1 guys.

egh, that sucks, kind of a (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/nutkick.gif) What do you guys do for clutch break in? Take to the track, or?
