SOLD!
I just purchased a Remington 700 with a heavy barrel and it came from the factory in a Hogue stock (the pillar bedded one, not the full length aluminum one). I'm changing the stock and this one is for sale. It was picked up last week and test fired yesterday, now the stock is coming off. It's like new and fits a short action rifle (this rifle is a .223, but it will fit a heavy barrel short action model 700). These are $99 new (mail order). $79 + freight? |

Guessing you got a Rem700SPS? I have one of those.. Good shooter for sure!
Do you know if the dies will work with a Dillon loader? If it will, I will take them! |

They should work in a Dillon 550 and/or 650. They work in my RCBS press just like my RCBS dies and a coworker uses RCBS in his Dillon 550. Yea, I bought an SPS. Sadly mine groups about 8" at 100 yards. It was terrible. I've either got a bad scope or something else odd. Either way, it's going in an HS Precision stock and I'm going to change out the scope mounts (and then the scope) as well as work up some hand loads for it. I'll get it to shoot.... This is the stock that's going on the rifle: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?prod...pla=ProductDesc PM me your address and I'll get a shipping quote. Thanks! |

PM Inbound..
My SPS luckily is a good shooter.. If I do my part with the right ammo (fed 168gr BTHP) it will do its part and reward me with tight groups. The best I have been able to produce so far has been 1/2 MOA @ 100yards. I agree with you, the factory Hogue stock is not the best and its hit or miss if it will hinder or help accuracy. I personally have been drooling over the AICS chassis system. My rifle is currently topped with a Falcon Optics 5.5-25x56 Menace scope snugged down by Titanium/Aluminum Nightforce rings on an MGW canted scope base.. Good luck on getting the best out of your new rifle! This post has been edited by SVTHuh: Apr 5 2011, 07:29 AM |

I shot a Rem 700 action (308 with a brake) on the AICS chassis over the weekend. He had an IOR 3.5-18x50 (or very close to that) on it. I used my hand loaded ammo from my Steyr .308 and shot about a 2" group at 100 yards (odd). My Steyr recently put down a .292 group at 100 (on a gusty day). It was only 3 rounds (I was going through a box of assorted test loads I'd worked up and tested long ago, just decided to use them up and that's all I had left of that load). This weekend in 20+ mph gusting winds it did less than an inch and that was because the wind was blowing me, the rounds and the target backers everywhere. I'll take it. The Steyr is wearing a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24 x 40mm 1/8 MOA target dot scope. It uses Browning A bolt mounts. Warne and such similar options are scarce for such a setup so it's on Leupold dovetail bases and Burris signature rings (and shoots anyway).
Shoot one of the AICS stocks before you buy one (if you can). The pistol grip is quite fat. I think I'd still like it once I got used to it, but I didn't instantly love it as soon as I sat down to try it (like I thought I would). I've been considering building up a .338 or a .300 win mag on one of those (or maybe just a .308, but I have a nice .308 that shoots well now). Anyway, we'll get the 700 SPS to shoot. I bought it for my girlfriend to learn to shoot from a bench. She will shoot my .308 and shoots it well, but it beats you up after a while (as any high power round can...they have to make recoil) and that's not good for learning proper technique. So, we added a .223 bolt gun to the safe and are going to have fun putting it together. |
