I was told stock brakes would be fine with pads, fluid and no ducts. I warped the rotors so bad 20 minutes into the second session I had to change them on day two. I warped those in the first session of day two. I wa braking 100 feet before the # 4 marker. No fade, bad vibration.
You need at minimum cooling ducts, race pads and fluid. I was told all I needed was synthetic fluid in the power steering pump, day one second session it broke and blew off the cap on the pump. Cooked the fluid, blew off 2 more that day. Day two I drilled a hole in the cap and put a rag over it and changed the fluid. Pump is done, toast. You need at minimum a cooler of some sort and good fluid. Otherwise car did great, rear end is whining a little on tight turns. Had to flush the clutch fluid before the last session on day 2 Pads still look good. Rotors are toast, tires look about a third shorter. At a minimum, you need good brake fluid and track pads. The stock PS pump will not hold out. I bought a turn one pump after destroying two pumps. Tracking a camaro is fun, but you need to do a lot more to go fast as compared to a c5 for example. Tim |

Badly warped my rotors, no fade to speak of. That's ok though, I got c6 brakes on the way. I will be prepared next round, bet your ccaboose on that. I will have everything I need at the next event. Roll bar and belts C6 brakes with ducts Power steering cooler and modified pump Frame connectors And a new respect for saving the brakes. |

FWIW, I was able to run 3 different track f-bodies with the following formula without issues:
Stock LS1 front calipers and rotors, using CarboTech XP12 front and XP10 rear pads, Castrol SRF brake fluid and Brembo OE blank rotors. One of the cars had brake ducts but I kept buggering the ducts during street driving and removed them. WIth the above pieces and no ducts, I had no real problems other than the occasional cracked rotor. SRF is expensive but you can forget about brake fluid problems if you can stomach the initial cost (thanks, mitchtx). I started extending the life of the PS pumps by changing from PS fluid to Red Line D4 ATF for fluid. Once I killed the original pump on these cars, I went with underdrive pulleys or a Turn One pump and when I went to one of those changes, I had no issues after than other than I used a turkey baster to suck the reservior empty after sessions and then refilled with ATF fairly often (sometimes session to session and sometimes after an event). I never had a cooler. Just a series of data points, I suppose. Welcome to our addiction |

Those belt and that bar are going to make huge differences. I didn't know you where only on your first HPDE. Once you've done a few more you'll be able to "feel" the car much better because you're staying in one position the whole time. No more being pined against the door then having the shifter stab you in the side. |
