Anyone use this cage? It says it is legal for Nasa and scca, can this be run in american iron?

http://www.ioportracing.com/Merchant2/merc...gory_Code=AP151

How difficult is the cage to install, and is it necessary to do any cutting of the interior etc?

thanks

Tim

I will reply the same as I do in EVERY roll cage question to date.....

I wouldn't do it with MY LIFE, but lots of folks do....

I am sure it is an "acceptable" cage to many sanctioning bodies and customers...but when it comes to racing wheel to wheel, THE BEST I CAN do is the only thing that is acceptable to me...racing for 10+ years now, I have seen some nasty crashes and KNOW what can happen...

My advice....DO NOT SKIMP on saftey equipment...

Do a search on roll cages to get the full discussions in the past

Thanks for the info. I am not trying to skimp, but get something premade that I can put in or weld in, that will be safe, at a reasonable price.

Seems to me that every time I want anyone to do some work, my car will disappear for several months and sit in their shop while they work on other projects.

Just my experience, but, having installed and used the autopower rollbar in my '02, there are MANY better designed and more efficient bars/cages. Used a Kirk Racing bar in my Neon ACR and the strength, fit , and finish were far superior. Wolf also makes some nice units that I've seen in F-bodies. These are just options. You might want to look into a custom fabbed unit for best fit and safety. Think safe before you think cost. Just watch the GT4 race from the 2004 Runoffs and you'll know the value of a well-made cage.

Sounds like I need to find a local guy to build up a cage.

Track Day/HPDE = Autopower OK
Wheel to Wheel = Autopower not enough

I am a little dissapointed with the fit of my Autopower Race Rollbar. Prefitting looked very good, but that was with the rear floorboard carpet in place... cutout the carpet for bottom plates and it drops over a half an inch down from the 'roof'. Basically the top of the rollbar is 2" down from the headliner (from directly above the drivers seat), which I guess isn't so bad if you are short. But at 6'2" I'm not short and my helmet brushes the headliner. I should drop down around 2" once the Kirkeys go in, so maybe it will be a little safer then. If I had to do it over again I'd get a custom welded roll bar that goes right up against the top roof.

My Wolfe racecraft 6pt fit like a glove, you can just slide a piece of paper between the plastic door trim and the cage. But I hear the bent bars in the rear arent legal for SCCA?

SCCA will not approve bent bars in the rear....and I think they have a three or four bend maximum on the main hoop...which is where a lot of "production" pieces go wrong....lots of bends to get that tight fit...

Hi TIm,
You may have heard me say this before:
Bolt ins are ok for the street or track days or AX, but for fender to fender racing.
Get a serious, custom made cage, and get NASCAR door bars!!!

The difference is night and day.
Check my pics for comparison.
