Guys, I've got a 95 z28 that I have been using for DE's and modding step by step. First step was brake upgrade to c5 brakes, then suspension, next was upping the power a bit with lt4 hotcam and headers, bolt ons...makes 330 rwhp right now.

Well I just ordered a set of LE2 heads from LLoyd elliot with his LE2 cam, I am going to be looking at around 400-410 at the wheels. WHic will be good because I need a bit more power on the straights on the big tracks.

I am contemplating dabbling in AI and maybe some other amateur racing series...I know AI has a Weight/RWHP limitation.

I guess if you go over you can add ballast, but that would be a negative impact on handling and braking. So I guess the best solution is to lighten the car as much as possible and set the hp to the max...

Is it possible to restrict your engine with a restrictor plate when running Nasa AI?

Does anyone have a good guess at the weight of a 95 z28 m6 with the rear seat and all stuff (carpet etc.) in the rear removed?

Sure, you can use a restrictor plate. You dyno the car before the season or after any power changes, then when you come off the track they weigh you. If you have more horsepower than 9.5 to 1 (weight to power) or more torque than 9 to 1, you are disqualified.

Ask Mike P. about racing an overweight car. I think he still has a full stereo in his car! I don't know how he's scooting that thing around the track so quickly.

It wont be worth your time to try and run AI with a car that makes over 400HP. You cannot legally add enough ballast. I think your only allowed to ballast up to 150lbs...no more. Sure you can detune but, what a waste of equipment.

The top AI cars make between 315 and 360 at the wheels, do the weight math from there.

A stock LS1 would tune in at about 335-345 RWHP *9.5 = 3182 - 3278lbs, which includes driver.

It sounds like 400hp is only doable if you do a full interior car+ added weigth of safety equipment and chasis stiffening? 400hp*9.5=3800lbs with driver which would be a pig (handleing wise) compare to a 3182lbs car.

This is good to know (I guess I'll hold of on that cam swap for now) I've already have 347hp, I guess I need to weigth the car to see where I'm sitting ratio wise. Although I won't be competing for a year yet.

Howdy,

So AI has a constant power to weight ratio?

If so... Wouldn't you always be the best off with the least weight?

...which is exactly the reason why I'm baffled that everyone in AI runs V8s instead of turbo 4s.

Funny, I had a post written out that mentioned this, then decided not to post it. Tim Nichols (John's co-driver in White Lightning) has been kicking around this idea. We tried to convince Chris to go with a V6 in the Camaro, and she was as opposed to that as she is opposed to me getting a Scion tc.
