What would it cost me to have a cam swap done and new valve springs. I'll supply all the parts.
No this. My car is a LT1 with no emmissions. Nothing that isn't needed. The Radiator and mounting are custom and it would take longer to drain than to remove it. The engine bay is very clean and access is very easy.
I am going to make a few calls to some local speed shops just wonder what you guys thought it is going to end up costing me. By the way. I won $600 on the Super Bowl. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Called a local speed shop yesterday. They want $1500 and I bring all parts. I guess 3, 10 hr days at $50 an hour. It adds up fast. Holy shit that's a lot of money. I guess I'll just live with the cam I have or have to get my lazy ass doing it myself. Not sure what I'm going to do.

......buy $50 worth of tools and do it yourself. Take ya a good solid weekend if you go slow....

Head/Cam Install

I am in the middle of this myself...you, of course will skip the R&R the heads part.....

$1500 is a ripoff for a cam swap, especially if the shop knows what it os doing. I think I heard a story about how Louis tore down an engine and took out the cam in like 15 minutes. if you had an LS1 I'd be able ot help you out with instructions from the GM Techline DVD I don't have. But my opinion is if you want something done right you have to do it yourself. With all the work I've done on cars this winter I think I could pull off a engine swap in my metro to a sbc.

See if yo can find someone with a 93-97 helm manual and you'll be all set. read the instructions before you start tearing things apart almost to the point of being able ot memorize it. It'll go much faster than reading each step after each taks is done.

not difficult for the lt1's. it can be done with the engine in the car. all you gotta do is remove the radiator and tilt the engine up.

SLP has probably one of the best spring compressor tools, it's only about 100 bucks and it works while your head is on the car. or, you could take the 1500 "earned" and get som nice AFR's complete and just replace them all together.

Not to Hijack the thread. But would you be interested in helping a newb on the site? I'm in the cleveland area, although I have a mechanic friend of mine that has experience building engines and could help me do a cam swap, he has no experience with the lS1. Send me a message I can give you the details on what I'm doing.
