Yeah the little things always kill you on these projects. Did you budget any money for the fuel system?

Cha-ching! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) I also dropped about $4k in heads/cam/headers/injectors/etc./etc./etc. this winter! It adds up quickly!

My extra power is is a result of a defective 2001 lifter tray, and a "while I'm in here I might as well upgrade this and that!" I see my track days being less and less in the future as I plan on buying a house next year......and that will put a damper on things! NJ house prices and taxes are......outta control! It could be 15 track days in 06 and only 5 or so in 07? I'm lucky that I'm going to be a permanent tower helper so 80% of my driving schools will be free this year.

I have a set of heads in process with Lloyd as well and the added luxury of being able to stop in and talk to him face to face.

He recommended to me on the LE2 package to get 36 lb injectors and a Walbro or Racetronix pump. When I asked specifically about lifters, he said that is probably not necessary.

He ported my intake as well ( +$200 ) and I am changing out the water pump while we are in there.

You did not add in labor costs --even if you are doing it yourself, I still factor that in as an expense -- add $700 for labor.

Then you have the PCM re-tune ($50?) or if you ae really doing it right - a dyno tune ( + $400)

Horsepower costs mony -- no way around it.

I thought about the 36 injectors, but they are a lot more expensive and I think the 30 lb should be able to support 400-420 rwhp without too much problem.

Isn't the pump in the gas tank? I hate pulling gas tanks.

I do do the labor myself, keeps me out of trouble.

Yes the pump is in the gas tank, and with a helper its honestly not that bad of a job.

I just put in the Racetronix pump w/boostapump kit..that's what I'd recommend for any serious HP effort, especially for you road racer types because your fuel volume demands will be for much more sustained periods.

you could use the "trap door" method, altho racetronix does not endorse this practice....

I wonder if that doesn't have something to do with all the issues Comp R's have had lately.

I used the Comp OE replacement lifter in my street car.

Haven't had an issue. The cam is near .600 lift and am using Patriot double valve springs.

Yes but on LT1's (the poster has an LT1) Comp R's have been failing left and right even with proper valvetrain setups.

That's not good. I'm running Comp Rs. Of course the car has maybe 3000 miles on it in the last 18 mos.

I can remember when I did a heads/cam job on my car. I had bugeted X-amount and then it just about doubled when I was done and I could have probably tripled it I hadn't just drew a line I wasn't crossing.

True...but I heard it was a "bad batch" issue.....I have Comp R's that are approx 2 years old and they look fine when I opened the top end up the other night for Ai heads and cam....

Ai said to go with the Comp R's if they look good, or replace with OEM if they look bad, I felt nervous about them.....

you forgot to budget in coolant and oil/oil filter etc.

The wire retainer has changed drastically in the design for the comp R as those pictures on CZ28 show.

Those lifters I bought aren't the comp r's.

When I did the hotcam, I flushed the engine by runinning it for a few hours between changes, for the first 4 oil changes. Paranoid about dirt.

At least I can sell my heads with the lt4 hotcam kit and get a little back, but not too much I guess!
