Didn't know where else to put it..... I also have pics on DarnRacing.com...

Stats:

Dirt track, two days off rain. Conditions sticky (perfect).

2 barrel SBC, trick heads, long tubes, 600hp, push start, one gear, MONSTER!

Stocks, modifieds, 2-barrel sprints and fuel injected super sprints there.


Observations:

1) Sign entering pits should say "Please leave sanity here!".

2) Squeezing into this thing was worse than Chris in a beep beep. My head TOUCHED the halo....

3)When they say, "Bill, you get the push in gear. When the gauges come up, flip the on switch. Give it a little gas, and she's off!" They mean it! Pushed off, saw the gauges come up, flipped the switch with a little gas and BWAAAAAAHHHHHHHPPPP. I am doing 80 in the pits (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) ... Okay, gather my sphincter back up, look around, and get on track first. There were 10 Sprints practicing and doing shake downs for April. Going about 60 for two warm up laps. The green drops and ROOOAAAAAARRR this car hauls (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) ! Drifting in the corner was not natural to me, first thing I had to learn. Gas and brake operate straight up out of the floor. I had to held my leg UP to stay off the gas. UNBELIEVABLE acceleration. 2nd only to the IRL car I drove.

Ran 22 laps. Actually learned drifting, and holding down the gas more. Never spun, or went off track, and impressed people with my actual, ahem, skills.

Conclusion:

Dee (the Dad) was glad I brought it in in the same condition it went out. So was I. Gary asked what I thought. I told him this. "I let off too early for the corners, liked the back stretch with no walls, but the front stretch is hairy coming off 4. My mind says step on the gas, and the leg says no, we are sliding. Hard to relearn. Next time I will mat it more and let the wing do more. I was letting the throttle turn it instead of riding the wing's force. I fought it a bit." He was surprised how much I could relate to the methodology. Easy, I watched VERY intently on what they were doing. If you want, I can tell you what I saw as the proper way, that I was trying to duplicate. Remember these cars jump, bounce, and hop on the Hoosiers.

Everyone is ribbing me about my start in the pits. You guys would fit right in. No one is safe in the pits.

Very cool. I want to drive a sprinter sometime. My mechanic used to race them, and he tells me it is one of the wildest things you can do!

I heard somewhere that the two highest power-to-weight ratios in auto racing (that involves turning) are in Formula One and sprint cars.

I would LOVE to try one - if it has a pucker-proof seat (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

What I wouldnt give to get back into a sprinter. I miss running those things. it does take a bit of time to get one figured out. Want to try something REAL fun? go strap yourself into a super moddifed car! Now that is a rush!

I crew for a winged sprint car. They certainly are wild. Here are some specs on our current car/engine:

2001 Eagle 86/40 (86 inch wheelbase)

Torsion bar suspension (975 lb LF bar, 1025 lb RF bar, 1000 lb LR bar, 975 lb RR bar..for tracks less than 3/8 mile)

Cockput adjustable weight-jacker on RF torsion bar, capable of 6 turns.

VRP cockpit adjustable shocks (we are only running the LR as adjustable right now)
staight up valving (5/5) on front for tacky track..5/3 (rebound/compression) dry track..straight up RR tacky track, 4/7 tie-down on dry track...LR adjusted accordingly from cockpit.

Winter's Quick Change single tube axle rear, 4.86:1 ring pinion...and about 30 different gear sets. Average final drive is around 6.00:1. Driveshaft is about 2 feet long, and is bolted right the back of the crank via a yoke and u-joints. The driveshaft is about 2 inches in diameter, billet steel, and enclosed in a torque tube as it passes below your nuts.

414 cubic inch small block, built by Kriner's Racing Engines (slightly bigger than the 410 limit, hehe.)
Callies crank
Carillo rods
JE pistons (16:1 compression ratio, runs on methanol)
Chapman CNC billet heads (astronomical flow numbers)
Ferrea Titanium valves (2.18, 1.98 I believe)
T&D Shaft mounted rockers (both 1.65:1)
Comp triple springs
Comp solid roller (.832, .817, 280/282, 105.5 LSA, going off of memory from the cam card..it is HUGE)
Kinsler mechanical fuel injection
12 quart dry sump oil system, Barnes oil pump
New from Kriner the engine was $36,500 with oiling system. We bought it 1 year old (freshened) from an outlaw team for $15,000.

874 HP / 783 TQ engine dyno

Race Weight: 1280 lbs.
