Well the rebuilt short block is in (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) It's never easy, but this time it was insane! I was working alot just to pay for this (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Plus pulling everything apart and putting it all back together a few hours every night and the weekends in 95 to 110+ deg heat.
There are some people I gotta thank first of all..... My wife..... just kidding (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotf.gif) Vic over at Performance Speed & Machine for not butt raping me (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif) on the short block! AndyJ for sending me some stuff I needed badly (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) SteveD at Prostop Performance for going WAY out of his way to get me some brake line's (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banana.gif) Tony Guaglione at Hiline motorsports and Carbotech for rushing(making) a set of pads to me (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif) And everybody here (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/hail.gif) I have been using the search option alot! Here are some pics of this round of mods The motor, notting special.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/fir...ne/7de9211d.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/fir...ne/53f1cb75.jpg Modified water pump http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/fir...ne/ee3f0185.jpg Oil recovery/ HVAC removed http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/fir...ne/DSC01079.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/fir...ne/DSC01080.jpg 996 setup http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/fir...ne/2fb78ada.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/fir...ne/DSC01081.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/fir...ne/DSC01084.jpg Some stuff to make it a little safer on track! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/fir...ne/DSC01102.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/fir...ne/1fc94db3.jpg Now I have to get out there and do the alignment........ AND wash the bird, truck, and RV, cut the lawns, and start to pack everything for next weekend! This post has been edited by firehawkclone: Jul 2 2006, 03:55 PM |

Congratulations .. I hope the 3rd time's the charm! And that all looks very nicely done. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
Hot weather sucks for working on cars--my lungs can't take the fumes/smells when it gets hot. They close up like some valve... Remember to give your lungs a break now that your car's done. What did you do for fixing up the roof on your t-top car? I see a pair of bolts sticking out on either side of the A-pillar at the top. I'm curious about that fix, since I've been mulling over something similar. Cheers, Nik -- Black LT1 twin turbo (2 years, 1 month of tinkering) |

I would put clamps around the oil recovery hose. May not need it, but "stuff happens" on track and the last thing I'd want to do is put oil down or catch my own engine compartment on fire.

I'm real close to changing that linr over to S/S line. With clamps (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Thanks Rob |

My hose story:
Long ago, I was crewing on a race car for a friend (at Watkins Glen). The vent line from the fuel cell was braided line..... So I thought. What I didn't see was the fact that it was coupled to clear "hose" as it ran up to the rear package shelf area. Eventually, that clear hose (with no clamp) came loose and the vent line started "flopping around" and spewing fuel all over the trunk. Since this was a race car, it wasn't exactly fluid-tight and the fuel soon leaked out and wound up all over the rear wheel. This eventually resulted in a spin that sheared the distributor gear off (when the motor spun backwards). This left the car in the middle of the track, facing traffic and unable to start or move. No damage was done, but a hose clamp (or the right line) would have prevented the whole incident. |

That is the biggest mirror I've ever seen!!
(the last photo) I wouldn't be able to see under it. I even took the visor out of my street car because even with it up, it still took away part of my forward vision. |

(the last photo) I wouldn't be able to see under it. I even took the visor out of my street car because even with it up, it still took away part of my forward vision. Well JohnI look really far ahead and sit really low in the car, so its no big deal. And I had one a long time ago. And it allows me to see a car thats on the side of me much easier (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) There is open passing in NASA TT. Hopefully one day(crossing fingers) Alan Blain will fix that T-top problem (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) John - Prep looks good so far Got a fix for your Ttop problem here: http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/index.php?showtopic=7845 Regards, Alan Blaine Blaine Fabrication Thank you Alan I would love those Alan, but I'll have to talked you into a set of Alum when the time come's.
