I just got a new EVO RS.
My other car is 95 Z28. Quite a difference between the two. The Evo makes the Z28 feel like a caddy, very brutal suspension over broken up pavement. Low gearing 3500 rpm at 75. Got 24mpg running at 70-75 on the highway. Not that much better than a Z28. Sure likes to eat bugs, the bottom breather of the Z28 is a nice feature around all of the grass hoppers. Very high grip and quick turn in, fast steering. lots of power from about 3000 rpm, feels like it would take the LT1 pretty easily at least up to 100 or so. I think the Z28 has the edge in aerodynamics at highway speeds and greater. Still getting used to the EVO, so I have not pushed it really hard yet, first 600 miles under 5k rpm. Revs to 7k now that I am past 600 miles. Smooth reving engine, AWD not very noticeable but it has an active center diff and in corners you can feel it working some. I think some new shocks, Bilstein would be nice. Some people are converting stock struts to KONI DA. I imagine that would cost cubic dollars. The bilsteins that fit it are a high dollar adjustable type, or they make an OEM Bilstein for the MR version. So far the only mods are a radio and speakers. Anybody want a 95 LT1 with C5 Brakes 1LE stuff and Koni DA's? I guess the new Camaro is too late for me, best of luck with it though. I hope Chevy keeps the weight down like others have pointed out. |

Illegal in Canada? I had not heard that, did they give a reason?
I know they have them in England, Japan of course, but not canada? The AWD would be nice up there also, can you get the Subaru STi ? |

Funny, I often refer to my C5 is a cadillac when people are saying the courses are bumpy... what bumps? FWIW my LS1 SS got 28mpg towing a tire trailer at 70mph, 24 mpg average street/highway driving. |

I have an LT1 I rarely do better than 25mpg. I have heard that LS1 cars do quite a bit better. I had hoped that the EVO would do more like 25-28 mpg. But low gears, AWD, turbo, and a somewhat brick like shape seem to defeat the 2.0 L fuel economy.
I have also heard that they run very rich, to prevent damage under boost. Might help to keep my foot out of it, very hyper car once you get to the 3k rpm area. Oh well, can't buy a Rally car and expect to get an economy car, Cake & Eat it too sort of deal. Z28 I just got a new EVO RS. My other car is 95 Z28. Quite a difference between the two. I've had my 95 Z28 since 1997 and I also had a used 03 Evo and then an 04 Evo RS that I bought new in 04. I was planning to sell my Z28 when I got my Evo but I'm sure glad that I didn't. I use the Evo as a commuter and weekend traveler and the Z28 as a motorsports car. The Evo is fast but the Z28 is a bit more satisfying to drive fast and I especially didn't like autocrossing the Evo as much (nor was I as fast in it as I am in my Z28--I know, sounds crazy but my Z28 isn't stock either). To me, the Evo is a fantastic road car. Good grip, handling, gas mileage (I get an average of 20 in town with about 350 whp), room, visability, etc., but after owning one for 3 years, I've decided that for future high performance purchases, I will most likely stick with larger displacement (3L+) rear wheel drive platforms.

The only way you can bring one in, is as a race car, non plated vehicle. |

I have an LT1 I rarely do better than 25mpg. I have heard that LS1 cars do quite a bit better. My 2002 Z28 with me, my wife and a full load of luggage for vacation managed to knock down 29.5 mpg between Columbus, OH and Morgantown, WV (including the 8% grades in the mountains) with the cruise set on 80 mph. I was amazed, but .5 OD and 3.42's seem to keep the revs down enough to make it possible. |

5mph bumpers, I guess the US now allows 3mph.
I was checking out the foam under the rear bumper, it is nothing but the white foam that you see $.99 coolers made out of. I don't think they will ever get 5mph out of that foam. Shutting down Camaro production was one of the dumbest things Chevy ever did. Z28/Evo Illegal in Canada? I had not heard that, did they give a reason? I know they have them in England, Japan of course, but not canada? The AWD would be nice up there also, can you get the Subaru STi ? yeap... supposedly they use the political 5mph bumper collision thing. heck, the GTO is illegal in Canada too... i think they are just pissed @ closing the plant in here for the Camaro and not have the GTO built here... my opinion. The only way you can bring one in, is as a race car, non plated vehicle. I am forming some similar opinions. I am thinking about modding the Z28 and beating on it. Touch the EVO and I void the warranty. I would rather fix the Z28, Evo is pretty complex. Race cars break so I think the Z28 would be better in the cost peformance ratio. Perhaps time to put that CC305 cam in. I feel a little dumb for having two sports cars. It makes the insurance companies happy though. Thanks for the thoughts and insight, still planning to keep the Z28 also. Z28 - Evo I've had my 95 Z28 since 1997 and I also had a used 03 Evo and then an 04 Evo RS that I bought new in 04. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) wouldn't it be ironic if from that moment, the GTO would become legal in Canada ? I hope Oshawa gets it... rather than locally, in QC. The union is what killed the plant, imho (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/nutkick.gif) some ppl instead of working hard think all is due to them, while they were just a bunch of slackers not giving a damm about the product nor company... that was Boisbriand's plant. Oshawa's been doing a lot of great work, and coming out with great quality vehicules, actually helping GM name in pursue of better quality products and to get that image in the market. They deserve to get the job. |

I wonder if the recent new law about 10% ethanol in all fuel in missouri would explain my lower fuel mileage?
I have a 6spd with 3.42 gears, bought it new that way in november '94. 12 years in a camaro, no wonder an evo feels so different. Z28/Evo |

Screw that 5mph/3mph BS! Just tell the cops that you promise you'll never drive it below 60! with that requirement not being met, the insurance companies define those models as uninsurable, due to people's inability to park by sight, but only ability to park by feel/ear. Since the car is non-insurable, the provinces (states) have no choice to not plate them since the cars would be illegal on the road without insurance coverage. In the end, it's a big insurance scam... they wanted the 5mph bumper thing, but that increased the repair costs, which they then turned around the costs to customers... makes you wounder the reasons they ask for suck things... it ain't safety... that's for sure... if safety was main concern, the A/B/C pillars would have to be way stronger, and forcing ppl to wear 5-pt seat-belts... then we would be talking safety... but then, people hate being strapped (want freedom)... bah! .... and airbags... bah! |
