The bro-in-law pit crew and I are planning to go unless the IRS has other plans for me! It is a 650 mile tow vs. 4800 we did to Ohio, ahhh! Can't wait to drive this "fast" track. F-bods were made for this!!!

There will be the largest CMC/CMC2 field yet at this event! I am glad NASA listened to its members and decided to rotate this thing around so folks on the other ends of the nation as well as the middle can participate.

What saddens me a bit is that the east coast folks looking into organizing a east coast championship, which will draw folks away from the Real championship. I think it is bad form, not to even try to attempt to make it to Utah. Us west coast folks made the effort to go to the east. In the spirit of sportsmanship I would expect them to do the same, vs. saying "will put up our own show".
But than again what I found "weird" is that there were not more east coast folks at Ohio. If it were me and the big show came to my neck of the woods, I would definatley sign up. Even if I was not a top runner. Oh wait I did do that in 2007, even though it was all the way across the country, not my back yard.

I'll be there in '09, bringing up the rear in AI. (Hopefully)

It is on their own, using the NASA events as the venue, multiple events, traveling road show. I forgot where I read about it...

I do not follow it much, but I was under the impression that car counts were growing, the national championships were also growing, and the club was well on its way to running other clubs out the door by showing them how it is done and catering to all the needs of the local/amateur racer......

Is there a problem developing? We used to see a bunch of NASA guys run SCCA events now and then, but I haven't seen one in a while. Well, that is until the monster new Griggs car came out this past weekend and bested all of our times by like 5 seconds a lap:

He said he was going to run SCCA full time because of nobody to run with in NASA....

Randy, tomes can be written in answer to your question. But briefly, some classes are better represented than others in various regions. Moving the Nationals to a more westerly venue will see a change in fields for some classes.

How does Griggs bringing a car to SCCA events point to a problem with NASA? Griggs ran in AI for a number of years, and did quite well. There was disagreement whether they brought a good element to the paddock or not. For whatever reason, they no longer field cars in AI.

While we're talking about AI, they had a good showing at Nationals.

between the economy (face it - CMC racers are way more budget minded) and the 2010 rules change's coming, it was just a bad year for CMC. my bet is, CMC-2 will be huge next year. in fact, i'm already planning to be a CMC-2 car for all of '09 - including Nats.

There is a ton of enthusiasm for CMC...the economy was the big car count problem this year at the Nats. Notice there were a ton of AI cars at the Nats. For some reason AI has always been bigger out east! Congrats to Dave Shotz in taking 5th in that huge AI field.

I'm looking forward to my relatively short 650 mi tow to Miller for the '09 Nats!

There is a lot of dirty laundry being aired and bubbling to the surface. While well intentioned in the name of increasing car count, the time has probably come to clean up our house and let the series stand on it's own 2 legs. Sink or swim ...

No...I did not mean that Griggs car coming to the SCCA events meant anything about NASA....other than it was the ONLY NASA car I have seen in a while, and the driver mentioned to me he did not like the "lack of competition" (his words) at the NASA events he had been to. That and Griggs is a NASA guy.....he himself tried to recruit me to NASA a few years ago to boost the AIX numbers.....dunno.

I have just gotten used to SCCA bashing over the years and all the talk that NASA was a big, fat, happy, growing family that I was shocked to hear the low turnout news at the Nationals in the other thread and then hear some dissention talked of here....

As much a SCCA guy that I am, and my position that all series will either gravitate to either a stricter, draconian type rule based system in many of your opinions like the SCCA, or become a catfight between rules stretchers, rules makers, the original "just want economic racing" guys, etc....I honestly hate to see you having "typical such issues"

.....yeah.....he admits it is a "detuned" Rousch NASCAR motor. I told him I was putting down 461 to the rear wheels....he said "oh....we are close then.....I detuned my motor and I am at close to 500 hp...."
