Ok. Just (still thinking out loud) trying a list of tracks that seem to show up often in peoples suggestions. This is not a final list and due to a limit of 10 items on a poll, is in no way complete. I'm just trying to get a feel for what track may generate the best turn out (if I missed one, let me know, we can fine tune this in the next poll).

I'm still not sure if we can put this together, but if we don't try, it will never happen. Right?

So, the question is "At which track would you attend an frrax track day"?

This is to assume that it is next spring or summer, you have plenty of notice of the date for vacations and all of those things. Meaning, if you have enough advance warning, would you come and where?

Pick your favorite. I know that many of us can attend many tracks, so those with "few" votes will be thinned from the next list.

I'd vote for many of those...

I then considered voting for one that I thought that everyone else would vote for.

Uhh...

Hmmm....

That was my problem as well. I figure we can see what gets "no" votes, pull those, and then find any we missed and run it again until we sorta agree. So, I know most east coast guys could do most of those. Some of us could do Hallett to catch the Texas crowd. I'm waiting to see how the numbers work out on each track.

I live in Wisconsin. I've been to the following:
Road America (obviously)
Blackhawk Farms, Illinois
Gingerman, Mich
Mid Ohio, Ohio
Putnam Park, Indiana
IRP, Indiana
Beaverun, Penns.
VIR, virginia
Memphis motorsports, Tenn.
Mid America Motorplex, Iowa

In other words, I'm willing to go anywhere! However, I voted for Putnam. Reason is that it is a little more in the middle, and it is a club track. You can forget about renting a Watkins, Road America, VIR, etc because you (we) would never get enough people to afford it. They are likely over $25K for a weekend and about $10k for a weekday. You can see some of the costs for renting a track at the National F-body site where Ken has posted them.

The plan is to cross reference tracks that people will come to, with tracks that we may be able to afford to rent. But, good information. Thanks!

I live in atlanta, I have run
CMP, Roebling, Rd. Atl, Sebring, and VIR. CMP or roebling would be cheap ones to rent. Looking to do barber soon, another possibility but not cheap. VIR is my favorite, but as mentioned not cheap.

When I repost this (to narrow the field, if there is enough interest), I'll add Heartland Park in Kansas to the list. It's a little closer to the east coast (150 miles?) and still within reach of the DFW Texas crowd (I think).

I think we should tag the event to a NASA event somewhere. Let them rent the track.

Have a spot in the paddock for those members showing up. Maybe a run group, too.

I don't know that we have a Chicago contigent (which is odd considering its size), but Heartland is much closer to half-way between Chicago and DFW.

We have IL and MI guys, and Ohio. Then we seem to head towards NY, PA, VA, etc.

We're pretty spread out. Jon's in Portland (nothing is close to him and "us"), Randy, Al, Julie, etc are in CA area. I'm working towards a "majority rules" approach. Though, I've only got 19 yes answers on the poll. Out of 470+ members, I figured we could get 50 cars together. I hope I'm not wrong.

It won't let me do that. My thinking is "pick your favorite", we'll take the top few and narrow it down. That is as close as I can get. I know many of us can make 5 or more of these tracks. I'm looking for a "direction" and a section of the country that the majority can reach.

Yeah, I know the poll is the simple way to do it, but it may not be accurate. You asked where, and I picked my favorite on the list (WGI), but I would also go to LRP, SP, VIR, Beaver, Mid-Ohio. I'd hate to see a track that may be more convenient for more people like Beaverun or Mid-Ohio get ruled out b/c I and others picked their favorite of the ones listed. After you feel people out by the poll, maybe everyone could list the tracks they would attend and then somebody can tally up the totals?

True, but I figured that it wouldn't matter where we scheduled, they'd move "that" track on us.

Voted for CMP but like Tim said, check Roebling...they are cheap.

I love Roebling and it's much closer for me but it's not very centrally located. I voted for VIR because of its location but didn't realize how expensive it is to rent.

That's what I was thinking too. You might be able to build more of a consensus this way. I might prefer Putnam/Blackhawk/Gingerman/Road America etc. since they're closer, but be willing to head as far as Heartland to the farthest south and west, or Mid-Ohio to the east.

If the software won't let you do it currently, see if you can get some help because I would think this bb should be capable of pulling it off.

would be nice for it to be in the center of US, so most people can drive down... willing to drive 1500 miles for that (1-way).
Another thing... has to be during summer... not driving if there is risk of snow anywhere on the way.

I realize that most of you would not be able to get to a lap day at Mosport here in Ontario but maybe for some it's close enough so I'm posting this for future reference.

The Tracc Lapping Club out of Montreal will most likely schedule another event at Mosport next year and I believe they would be happy to have experienced drivers from this board participate. TLC has about 200 members and they hold lap days almost every week in Quebec. They are well organized and safety is the first priority. They are also good racers and there's no BS.

They held an event at Mosport last Monday which I attended. Cost was $250 Cdn. for the day and we had the track from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We also had paid marshals, ambulance crew on site and race rescue team as well. There were about 30 cars split into two groups each out for half an hour at a time so everyone got as much track time as they wanted. They usually get more people out but a lot them didn't want to make the 5 hour trip from Montreal I guess.

Mosport is 2.5 miles long and fast with a lot of elevation changes. It's easy to get to - about 1/2 hour north of the 401 which is a main highway which you can pick up from the US border.

Anyway, if the event is scheduled again next year I'll post a reminder.

Here's link which should have 1 lap at Mosport :

Hey all
I am up in Buffalo NY and also would travel to several of these tracks. However the only two that I would be comfortable driving without an instructor are Summit Point and Watkins Glen. I have only had two days at each of these tracks however so it is still a bit of a stretch for me to solo. Are you considering having some of the more experienced drivers Help out in this capacity? Perhaps you could hook up with a driving school group such as Track Masters, or work with NASA to provide instructors and help with the organization of the event. If it is NASA I can use the time toward getting signed off to do TT (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif) . As far as looking for an inexpensive track I would think that Nelson Ledges would be the cheapest. They do Friday Fundays for like $100.00 and they have instructors available as well.

Don't know if this makes sense logistically or not, but, what about trying to organize several events (2-3) that cover several geographic regions? This might allow for a reasonable showing at each venue if you take into account the people from e particular region and those from others who are willing to travel. Of cousre, the problem then is having the capital and the people in each area to make arrangements for each event. Another thought might be to consider attempting to go to an established organization ( PDA, Trackmasters, Apex, etc.) as a club. These groups run at a wide variety of tracks and already have made arrangements. Just thinking out loud. Hope something concrete can be established for next season. It would be great to meet the people behind the posts.

Jensend,

I hope it heads that way. I think we will tag along with Ken's group at the national F body motorsport event this year and see how it goes. If it works well, we may keep that as a "stop" and try to slowly add dates. Meaning, I'd like to do a few track weekends throughout the year (eventually) in different regions. So, don't panic, if we (I?) can pull it off, I hope to do just that.

Possibly presenting a "package" deal to Car Guys, PDA or etc, that you have 50 +/- willing customers and they may be willing to allow a discount for such numbers.
