I don't know, should I trade in the Camaro on a new Cobalt SS or one of these?
http://media.ford.com/products/presskit_di...=420&make_id=92 They're going to make me drive a Ford yet... |

Yeah, I've seen it too. Of all the awesome things and I'm tring not to take away from it but, they have to use 19" wheels (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) (bad for stock class) and they don't list the weight. Price might be in $45 range.

Nice car, but as far as autox goes I am sure my SS will hang with that. I wonder what the weight is too.

I'm guessing about 3800 lbs, about the same weight as the previous Cobra, maybe 50 lbs less.
The way I figure, the current Mustang GT and the previous Mustang GT are about the same weight, 3400 lbs. Then they said in an article, going from IRS would have weighed them down another 120 lbs or so, which they didn't think was worth it. I'm assuming with more HP, they'll need a heavier radiator and intercooler to help cool the car down.. Plus the big brakes and wheels are going to add some more weight back... Still think its cool that Ford is making it.. at the very least, it should give a base C6 the run for its money in a straight line, and in sales too (entering similar price ranges, and for the mass public, the Mustang will have a larger HP #) |

like the front... not the inside.
I loved the 2004 GT-R concept, though. |

I understand why they used a supercharger to get the HP, but to me supercharged cars just never sound right. They mask the induction noise that a good V8 should have and replace it with a whine.
Notice they said aluminum hood in the article. I wonder what other weight savings "tricks" they might have pulled to help keep weight in check. |

It's still kind of sad that the are only getting 450HP out of it. I mean, 5.4L 32valve, supercharged V8 and they can only manage 450HP? Let's stop and think here for a minute, GM was making 405HP out of a production 16valve naturally aspirated 5.7L in the LS6. Same thing with the base "new" Mustang GT, they finally get 300HP after GMs been doing it since the mid 90s.
Still, it is nice to see Ford coming out with it, and overall it looks pretty good on paper. My two biggest concerns would be weight and price. Not that I'd buy one anyway, I'd prefer to stick with my Hawk or the 944 Turbo. Of course, it'll be hilarious to waste the first new GT500 to try to race me in the Turbo, since they will probably have about the same HP/lb ratio and the Porsche has better gearing. |

Simply put, 450 HP is plenty. What does their competition have? It's a detuned Ford GT powerplant. They've already made 500 HP out of that one. |

You guys are crazy if you think BONE STOCK these cars won't put 450+ to the REAR! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
Check out the 4.6 Cobra's... w/ Just CHIP & Exhaust (NO PULLEY)... they put down 425! This car will be over 500RWHP w/ just Chip & Exhaust... and if you decide to add a Pulley... this car is EASY 550 RWHP! Pretty sick car... Will it turn? I don't think so! But it will go STRAIGHT... in a VERY FAST WAY! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Peace! |
