Pulled the engine, trans, and ABS module on Tuesday or Wednesday night. (the week is all running togehter...) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
Last night I pulled the dash and hvac. What a mess! Looks like a car has exploded all over my garage. Torque arm, driveshaft, engine, tranny, abs, hood cable, fender, hvac parts, dash bracing, glove box, gauge cluster, etc., etc.... Figured out that most of the hvac weight is the blower and the heater core. The ducting is minimal. Even the "box" on the firewall isn't too bad. The ac core is pretty light too. I'm probably going to put the ducting all back in, fabricate a block off plate that retains the heat but elimates the a/c. (I want to free up that space under the hood) When I don't need heat, it's easy to pull the blower and heater core to save weight, but keep the ducting. If I need heat, I can just pop them back in easy enough. Going to look at relocating the pcm. And I can move the lightweight battery to the firewall where the a/c used to be, and retain all the stock cabling, looks like it's going to reach just fine. Just have to figure out where I want to put the mount exactly. My weight reduction plan is to remove what I can, and what can't be removed - relocate toward the rear and/or lower on the car. Anything forward of the front wheels is getting looked at long and hard... Cruise and abs are gone, battery will go behind the wheels instead of in front. Radiator catch can is forward, but low already... Might move it, have to think on that one some more. Foglights are gone now. Found a 13" Grant steering wheel I forgot I had laying around. Need to order an adapter for that. At first I thought I would need a quick release, but still studying that. I might need a spacer though. I like the seat to be further back for pedal reach, but the wheel to be close. Might beef up the sway bar mounts while I'm at it. It's massive, taking on EVERYTHING at once, but fun too... The bolt-in roll bar is here, but I wan't to get all the weight back in the car before I fool with setting it up (especially the engine and trans.) The cross bar is too low. Not sure what I'm going to do about that yet. The harness slots in my Corbeau seats are too low for me too. I'm looking at a Lunati 383 to put back into it. Trying to reroute the STS piping too, so that the car can be lowered. The worst part is the pipe under the k-member. May try to relocate the alternator, and thread it through there. But that puts the alternator up higher, counter to my goal of moving weight lower. I wonder if I could put it where the a/c compressor used to be? Everything on the car is being re-evaluated. The radiator is going to be put up straighter, and I'm going to have to figure out routing for an intercooler, and brake duct routing too. Lots of stuff to do... Then to sell the leftovers. Radio, ground effects, abs, air bags, stock hood, possibly the Eibach springs, the stock seats, etc. That will be a project in itself. Anyway, just wanted to ramble a minute about progress made this week. Taking it apart is the easy part. Redesigning and putting it all back together will take a little more time. |

hope you labeled stuff LOL.
After I had an accident in the car I had all of that stuff out. Unfortunately I wasn't sure on the level of stripping things down. So I put it all back in after looking at it and ditching the AC and what not. Have fun putting it all back together. Did the 3.4 to LT1 swap a few years back, learned alot very quickly. |

QUOTE (John_D. @ Nov 5 2005, 11:38) Redesigning and putting it all back together will take a little more time. It always does but fabrication is half the fun (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Sounds like you're building a race car.
