Check your website, Jason! It's missing!
http://www.unbalancedengineering.com I'm in the middle of doing the retrofit and when I start bragging, I want to be able to refer them to your website! Speaking of which, Wait until you see how this torque arm fit my new Moser 12-bolt. It's LIKE A GLOVE, dude! In fact, I had to use the bastard file to slightly bevel the Moser mounting pads, and recontour the torque arm mounting flanges like we discussed. After that, I tapped it into place with a brass hammer and it very nearly snapped into position. I tightened the four fasteners (That is what Moser uses: No long bolts! Woo hoo!) to 110 ft.lbs and I swear, you can tap the end of the torque arm with a hammer and the axle housing will ring like a bell, it's that rigid. I'll be sending you the modification templates so that you can duplicate the dimensions to accomodate other future Moser axle assemblies. Kick ass, I can't wait to try this thing out! Oh yeah, while I remember: I need more suspension stuff. so BRING ON THE WEBSITE so I can place my order! I need six new rod ends, I should get some more weld-in LCA relocation brackets, and I need swaybar mounts that fit a three-inch axle tube. --Dan |

Looks like he owns it until 12/29/08. And various pages that were part of the site return 404 errors. For what it's worth, my guess is the server's down.

I got to looking at the axles old axle (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) new axle Old axle = 56 1/4 inches from flange to flange. I *think* Moser screwed the builder, and I *think* Moser deserves a swift kick in the ***. All of our notes specifically state that the axle was to be a third-gen width. These things are too costly to dink around with someone that can't even print a decent invoice or create a part number list. So, we're going to reorder the housing and axles and specifically state that the housing must be 56 1/4 inches from flange to flange to fit a third-gen Fbody. Unfortunately that means the axle builder may be stuck with a spare fourth-gen axle housing and axle shafts. I've learned my lesson and will avoid Moser if possible for any future business. |

Hey guys,
Sorry about the website. It goes down for 10 hours and everyone freeks out (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I guess that's a good sign right (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) I moved the website to a new server last night and apparently there was some cross up with the mail routing vs the website so neither was working and of course that all happened after I went to bed (MX and A record propigation). Hey Jason,
Just to let you know, those templates are in the mail for you along with pictures of the T/A modification. Also, I wanted to let everyone know that once I made it known that I had the wrong axle, within four hours Moser called the builder back and offered to ship the correct axle housing and axles via FedEX free of charge. So, on Monday I will lift that heavy thing into the back of the minivan and drive it 90 miles to the shop where the builder will swap the guts over to the new housing while I wait. So it looks as if I'll only be losing out on some time and gas money. Moser customer support worked well this time around! I must say, I'm sure looking forward to trying out this Detroit Truetrac on the road course! I'm just not sure about the mass of the axle, and how it'll affect the handling of the car. There's probably 50, maybe 75 pounds more weight there than a standard 10 bolt. However it's still 50 to 75 pounds less weight than a Ford nine inch. |

I was gonna say....be careful about giving negative evaluations to folks about a vendor, especially online, before they have a chance to fix the mistake. What I was reading about here was an expensive mistake which no-one makes on purpose. The judging of a vendor making a mistake should be delayed to see what they do about something like this (besides winding up losing their profit and more). Moser is taking the proper steps, cool! As an owner of an online business I work really hard to take care of my customers and have their testimonials on my site. Word of mouth and my repuation is what I live by. All it takes is one loud negative person to mess that up. Just an FYI, thought I would share from the vendor perspective. In the end the good guys will win and the bad guys will go out of biz.

Okay-fine! Let's see what Moser will do about it. If you're lucky you might get a piece that will work this time. I am surprised that Moser didn't just say "tough Sh*t". I learned my lesson several years ago. I had one axle shaft built by Moser. The length was wrong and the bearing surface OD was .001 oversize. When I called them about it I was told that I must have sent them the wrong measurements. Sorry, but I have been doing precision work for over 30 years and Moser is wrong. They offered no correction. I fixed the axle myself up at a friends machine shop.
Next - A local F-body drag racer has a Moser 12 bolt built. He installs it and the thing howls like a cat with its tail caught in a screen door. Moser's response...You must have broken it in wrong. Upon examination by myself and a professional axle builder that I know our conclusion was that it was the absolute worst set up ever seen by man. Next - A local hot rodder brings me an axle to press the bearings off/on for him. Moser built it originally. Having had experience with their work and pressed many bearings I put the thing in a six inch piece of pipe before pressing. We have a 50 ton press BTW. I already knew what was coming next. The bearing blows up, contained by the pipe. I get to grind the inner race off with an angle grinder, get the bearing surface OD size corrected, and put a new bearing on. So, I feel I have a right to comment on poor quality. Advertising works wonders to give the impression of being a "good guy." I read a lot of automotive magazines. Moser advertises heavily in roundy-round mags, drag oriented mags, and off-road type stuff. In this case the good guys don't advertise in the same venues, or advertise a lot less. The best 12 bolt built for an F-body is built by Strange. Unless you read the National Dragster or hang with drag racers you won't see their ads. Call Moser and Strange on the phone and listen carefully to the kinds of questions they pose and their responses to your questions. Okay, Moser will tell you they can ship the same week. (the last time I spoke to them, years back) Strange will give you a minimum 3 week ship date and that is in the off season. Currie doesn't advertise in the same areas either. I have had axles and housings built by Currie for several applications. All it takes is one phone call. Most times I just tell them what kind of car I want it to fit and their rep ( the same knowledgeable people keep answering the phone) will tell me he has all the dimensions on file and he'll take care of the rest. When I get my axle, it is perfect. And, it includes a build sheet with the invoice showing all measurements used. Plus, they usually ship in less than a week, and that includes a custom built housing. In this case the good guys don't have to hype the public because they have all the work they can handle by word of mouth. This post has been edited by bobbylee: Jan 12 2006, 09:02 PM |

I have a Moser on my '02. I don't have the Detroit TT and was wondering as to your experience using it. What do you think? I know you can't compare it to the other option, an Eaton diff, but just wanted some FB if you've had a chance to use it yet. Steve |
