It seemed like a long winter, but considering my lifter tray failure, sometimes the rebuild of the motor seemed like it would never end. I had the whole damaged head/ebay scam, tapping the block for the chain damper, and then flycutting the pistons (in the car). I felt like a project manager sometimes trying to coordinate parts (monthly budget-like), but it all came together slightly ahead of schedule. I was shooting for Limerock on 4/21, but they asked for me to help with pit-out and tower at Shenendoah on 4/8-9, so I'm off to the track next Friday. The only thing I haven't completed was the tuning. With the wideband I hope to have it taken care of the first day at the track. With the noise, track tires, no cats (upto $10k/6 months in jail in NJ), no street seatbelts, etc., tuning wasn't going to happen on the street anymore! So I officially retired the car from street use and took the plates off it last Sunday!---Man does it look a lot nicer seeing "CAMARO" on the front grille! Many thanks to Marcin for help with the tuning and upgrade from the LS1Edit dinosaur. All the motor work I did was in the car. If I had known what I was getting into, I would've taken it out....there wasn't much left anyway.
This is the list of things I did over the winter: Trackbird brakes replacing Baer GT+ Momo Steering Wheel w/QD Spohn Solid Motor Mounts !ABS !Parking Brake Moser Replacement Axles ARP Studs HANS 160 Thermostat QTP 1-3/4" w/HVMC Longtube Headers TEA S1 5.7 Heads New 224/224 .568" 110LSA+4 XE Lobe cam Comp 850 Lifters 42# Flow-matched SVO Injectors LS6 Lightweight Valves LS6 PCV Conversion LS2 Drilled Lifter Trays Ported Oil Pump (self) Oil Grooves in cam cover plate GMPP Timing Chain Damper (drilled and tapped into block) LG G2 Rear Spoiler Schroth 7pt. Dennis, it's too purdy to race!!! You are lucky, we do NOT have spring yet in California. Where I live here in Northern California we are going on over 20 days of rain THIS MONTH!

We had the driest March in years, so that can only mean we'll get rained on every weekend from now until the rain turns to snow.
Looks good Dennis, try and keep it that way!! This post has been edited by slowTA: Apr 2 2006, 09:15 PM |

It's purdy....from 3 feet away....get up close, and there are chips all over from the track abuse! I'm so excited.....the winter seems forever sometimes! Today was a nice 70F day. I'm hoping for 50's next weekend in WV.

Well, got back from my first trip out this year and first trip to the Shenendoah circuit. Overall, very successful! My main goal was to tune and give the car a shakedown. Saturday was in the 40's and rainy. I did 3 out of 4 sessions on the Hoosiers with a window fogging up.... Sunday was in the 50's, and dry....I put the hammer down! Notes:
1.) Track brackets appeared to work very well. I used an old set of HP+ pads, which seemed to fade after about 5-6 laps. Will go back to HT-10's. I only used the HP+ to save the HT-10's cuz most adivised that HP+ would be fine for this track 2.) Temps were awesome, both water and oil were in the 180-190 range all day. 3.) Torque arm was rubbing the tranny tunnel (BMR) on the big dips on the straightaway. Will have to make some more room for it. 4.) WB02 is handy!....just make sure you read it... 5.) G2 Spoiler felt like it helped on the high speed corner exits, but it killed my rearview (now just a slit between the G2 spoiler and rollbar hoop). 6.) Removing the dashpad was a bad idea. Glare, glare, glare. The white doesn't help either. 7.) HANS and 7pt. belts were awesome. The HANS did limit my vision for one turn on the track due to a combo of things (seat is low, wipers were on so not fully retracted) 8.) The track is much better than what people said. There are a few blind corners and rises, but they're are flaggers to warn you of issues. The "carousel" Nurburgring banked turn is fun! 9.) The smaller steering wheel.... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif) 10.) Tried to do some tuning in 2nd gear.....even with warm tires, it lights up the tires in 2nd gear at about 5krpm. 11.) Talked to John Heinricy a bit as he was on the big track for the SCCA Nationals. Car was awesome, pulled like 10 men! From a log, I found out it did 80-100mph in 2.0 seconds. For comparison, a C6 Z06 takes 2.4s, and SRT-10 Viper takes 3.3 seconds. I had a tuning issue/error where the the car was running a bit lean......but I know what the issue is and I will try to iron it out Limerock next week. |

Job well done Dennis (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) The car sounds like a monster!
I was just a few tenth's off a 06 Z06(on 710's) per lap (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I thought it would pull alot more on me with 200 more HP! |
