I'm looking to remove as much of the interior wiring harness as possible while I'm prepping my car for the cage. I hate to buy the Helms manual just for this. Alan gave me a few places to check online for diagrams, but I didn't find anything. Any of you guys know where I might find this? Would any of you be willing to scan a few pages if you have the Helms and email them to me? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

From looking through my Helms manual for something else 2 nights ago, the wiring diagram is lot more then "a few pages". It's more like a few hundred pages, FWIW.

for my 4th gen i bought the factory service manuals when i got the car, its three seperate books, about the size of the yellow pages, i also purchased from ebay, a set of manuals for a lotus esprit turbo on cd, its the real deal what the techs use, and it was only about 30 bucks. the factory manuals are a must when removing wire from the car, because most of the others don't cover enough of the diagram.

I do have the complete set for 2001 Gary Gary-Will send you PM/email. Definitely be done with wiring by Jan!--Hope to be done with wiring within weeks! |

FWIW, the wiring colors did change between years. Don't ask me what changed, though. I just know that I cut some kind of dash wire incorrectly and got a diagram for a 1998 (mines a 2000). The 1998 had more or less grey wires than mine did. It was pretty useless.
Good luck. Go slow and cut 1 thing at a time. Be careful to start the car and move things around every 5 or 10 wires you cut. I had my car running and cut a lot at once. Shut the car off and it wouldn't start again. Took about 2 weeks of evenings to reconnect the right wires. |

Not only do wire colors occasionally vary between years, but when you get down to that level of detail, you'll discover errors in the Helm's manual. Not surprising, given the amount of wiring we're dealing with.
If you can't visually trace the wire, I've found it's often worth taking a little extra time to verify things with a continuity meter whenever possible, instead of trusting the diagrams 100%. Dave |

Sound like I should definitely still have Gary send the 2001 servic manual and then still be extremely sure before cutting. Thanks guys! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Here's another tip, don't cut it right at the connector until you're POSITIVE you don't need it again. A 3" tail ought to be enough to butt splice just incase of an oops...
