I'm seriously looking at buying a 1999 1LE. Does anyone know of one for sale? Would prefer stock, but would consider anything. Feel free to x-post. Thanks!

You should just buy mine. It's not a 1LE, but it has some of the parts.... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

What are you asking? I'm betting its outta my price range... Jason S. I guess it depends on how you want it. If I return it to stock and leave the Fidanza flywheel and Centerforce clutch (too lazy to bother with pulling them out), I'd like to see $12,500-ish (KBB says $12,795 for private sale, excellent condition). If I leave everything there (though I might keep my Lingenfelter driveshaft), I'd like to see $15,500-ish (which is probably less than I could sell everything for if I pulled it). The clutch was done 1 year, 3 autocross events and about 12,000 miles ago. Only negative is a noisy rear bearing (somewhere in the rear). It's been running fine for the last year, but it's noisy (no whine, just a rumble/growl). I found a rear end locally for $300, but haven't picked it up yet. And the car has no rear seat yet, I'm waiting on one from Cal. What price range were you looking at? |

I was looking for something less than 10K which I would think should put me in the ball park for a clean ~stock '99 1LE. Yours is just too new Kevin :-)

You're going to laugh (you must be born under a lucky star, I've not heard from her for over a year). My cell phone just rang. It was an old girlfriend wanting to know if I knew anyone who might want her 2000 SS. Black, leather, loaded, 46,000 miles, 6 speed, new tires 3k ago, etc. It's truly a nice, clean, one owner, garage kept, never wrecked car (I can speak for this one). She's asking $10k and said she might be a bit negotiable.
If you want one, buy this one. It's stock, unmodified and as delivered. She just liked the car, and washed it etc. It's mint. I'd buy it if I wasn't already trying to get rid of one. And, this is an SS. PM me for her number. |

Sounds like a good deal. I'd rather not have an SS again though since that limits the classes you can race with it...

'90-'99 1LE Camaro's were all base Z28's. '88-'89 are technically an IROCZ and not a Z28.
There were no 1LE for 2000. 2001-'02 1LE were built by SLP on SS cars. '88-99 1LE Camaro's were manufactured by Chevrolet. '01-'02 1LE Camaro's were manufactured by SLP. I am thinking about selling the green car but would need ~$8K firm. '98 Z28 6-speed hardtop, 90k miles, fresh T56 with steel forks, new GM fuel pump, stock save for an aluminum rod end PHB and some poly RLCA's (brand not known, came with car). All maintenance I(filters, fluids etc) completed 8 months ago. Consistently get >20 mpg with it. |

Thanks Chuck. I'll keep that in mind. I also have a line on a white '98 1LE with ~75K for the same price (my gf previous car which may be up for sale again by the new owner). I hate white though so your car my be tops on the list. I would prefer a '99 for the PCM changes but may have to settle for a '98. Thanks,

Maybe we could work some kind of trade. I need a '98 1LE so my screen name makes sense again (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
One advantage the '98 has over the later cars is a working temp gauge. This post has been edited by 98_1LE: Jan 11 2007, 12:17 AM |

My buddy is looking to sell his '98 Z28, silver, T-top, 73K, all stock even the muffler. Best part is, the car is local. He was looking for somewhere around 9K for it. |

Jason
You may want to check this car out. http://www.baautox.com/forum/index.php?t=m...rt=0&rid=83 I am not sure if the car is still available, but at the last autox event I was at he still had the for sale sign on it. The car is great shape, looks and drives very well. Let me see if I can find a picture. |

Huh,
I wonder why '98 1LE's are so much easier to come by. In '98 and '99 they made almost the same number of cars. One of the reasons I'm looking for a 1LE is NO t-tops, since so many of the regular Z28s and SS cars had them. I'd also prefer to buy a ~stock car. That way I have the option of running FS if I so desire. Thanks for all the help guys! So far nothing is exactly what I'm looking for but I'm still looking and extra eyes always helps. Jason S. |

According to my records, 129 Camaro 1LE's were built in 1998. The number 99 was floating around the net for a long time, but I believe that number was made up. The 129 number is from GM.
Only 74 were built in '99, more of which were SS and hugger orange cars destined to be garage queens. |

'88-'89 are technically an IROCZ and not a Z28. Actually '88-90 are IROC's..... '91 was the first year for Z28 again. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Not that it matters. |

That may explain the difference. Thanks Chuck.
George, I'd really prefer a stock car that is under 10K. You wanna swap a stock motor into yours :-) No, nothing on my car Mike. I don't think I'll ever see it again (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Jason S. |

Perry Perry, I cannot say that one of us or the other is right, but would like to share the source for the 129 number. A guy named Ryan started the 1LEOA in the late '90's, and his website is the only source for the 99 number I have found. I took over the 1LEOA site later, and owned a '98 1LE. When camaroz28.com posted the '98 production numbers 2001, I noticed the 0 for 1LE cars. I contacted one of the admins at cz28.com (Chris Frez IIRC), and they put me in touch with the GM person that provided the numbers. I explained that I owned a '98 1LE, and had photos of SPI lables for 10 or more '98 1LE's. He agreed it was a mistake and looked into it. A while later I received an email with counts that I will post later from my home PC. The counts added up to 129 cars, including four 1LE SS. Since I had VIN photos from all four 1LE SS, that number was more credible than the 99, which included three 1LE SS. I still own 1le.net, but lost interest since I sold my 1LE. If one of you would like to have the 1LEOA website and maintain it, it can be brought back up at www.1le.net. I plan to keep the domain name for a long time. |
