Ouch Glenn, I'm guessing everyone is ok. Glad the safety gear did its job. Looked like a pretty good hit.
Any after pics of either car? Post mortems are often educational. |

Mine has a wheel laying over w/ -1200 camber. Other than that, I constalty was asked where Rob hit me. The two cars looked like they were in different crashes. |

I can't see any pictures in that link, but the damage from what I could see in the video didn't look that bad. You could be seen driving it off in the distance. Are you sure you can't front clip it? Mine was CRUSHED in the front and we resurected it. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif)

It can be fixed. But for $400 in tube and paint it I can have a new car that doesnt have:
A) 5.5 years of racing on it. Thats 8 weekends a year w/ 7 sessions a weekend plus 3 enduro's. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) No bondo, plus what needs to be added to what this one already has. C) A bent frame from 5.5 years ago that has been neglectid to be fixed since it was discovered 2 years ago. D) Numerous rips and tears in the floor pan (that I just welded up). E) A less than desirable cage in design and weight. I've been wanting to build a new car for a couple years now, but I always seem to get involved w/ someone elses car in place of mine. The goal is to have a stronger cage that is about 30lbs lighter in a car thats about 10-15lbs lighter (40-45lbs total). The cage work is a 2-3 weekend deal. |

Howdy,
Am I seeing that he downshifted and accelerated into your side? Did he not think you'd snap the other way or something? Mark |

(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) Just kidding, but that looks easily fixable by a good body shop. Maybe fix it and sell it to a racer who is not so picky. Certainly not junk.....JMHO |

Mark If you see me drive and how often I save that type of stuff, you would understand. Not that I'm normally out of control, but I rarely end up in that type of situation. |

Your right. The car has value to someone who has a body shop or access to one and needs a cage done for them. With the engine out and a strategically placed port-a-power... you coud have this chassis pushed back pretty close. Definitely repairable. This post has been edited by AllZWay: Aug 3 2010, 01:14 PM |

Once that happens, what guarantee do I have the frame rails are still parallel? Left and right and up and down.

Once that happens, what guarantee do I have the frame rails are still parallel? Left and right and up and down. Well, I was refering to a frame machine. You could get it better than factory with that I would assume....you know GM tolerances. Mine was dead nuts perfect and I had one frame rail bent in a curve to the firewall and the other was crushed back to the firewall. I went to a GM wrecking yard and bought a front clip for $250 and had a "racer's bodyshop" cut the clip in half and replaced the crushed side and and straightened the "curved" side. I think he charged me $2000 for the labor. but it was perfect when I got it back. I bolted in a new crossmember and all the stuff lined up perfectly. |

$2K will go a long ways to a new chassis, as in all the way and then some.
Remember, I don't like my cage. This post has been edited by GlennCMC70: Aug 3 2010, 05:21 PM |

$2K will go a long ways to a new chassis, as in all the way and then some. Remember, I don't like my cage. Well, sure, if you are unhappy with your current car, I can understand that. My perspective was a car that was well built and was a well developed car. Personally, in my case, a cage ALONE would have cost $2000 in a new donor car....not to mention all the other goodies in the car. It was a no brainer cost wise. If you have been wanting to "do it better" for a while.....I can see your point. You could still repair it and sell it though. This post has been edited by rmackintosh: Aug 3 2010, 07:22 PM |

Once that happens, what guarantee do I have the frame rails are still parallel? Left and right and up and down. None without going on a frame machine....but you could get close enough to get the wheels aligned to finish the season...then build your new car. You have the other car to use for measurements....just push it back close to those specs. |

I'd port-a-power it. Or chain it to a couple trees with come alongs. Or find a concrete pad and set some 3/8" drop in anchors + chains and a come along.
It's a race car, beauty is in the eye of the racer behind the wheel. I'll bet it still looks good from the driver's seat. |
