Any interest in these? Anyone good at graphic design? They don't have to be fancy. I'd like a couple to throw on my car for events.

I would say to keep it simple. Something along the lines of a 1x5 sticker to go on the pillar between the glass and the backhatch. And just put www.FRRAX.com so that when ppl see it they stair at it for a second and go....WTF is that??? Then they ask. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

I want some!!
Anyone else notice that a car that's on a road course or even an autox course that has no "stickers" looks really plain? The plain cars stand out more than the cars with decals everywhere. At least to me. |

I’ve included a link to the one that I have on my BMW – I like the simplicity of it. It’s one of those rubber ones that doesn’t actually “stick”, but adheres through suction or static cling or voodoo magic or something.
http://www.bmw-m.net/decal.htm Perhaps design it along these lines? Jason |

I would almost rather have a sticker sticker. That voodoo stuff won't work to well w/ my 5% tint in the back. That is, if it adheards to the inside.

Gotta have silver here. We do our club stickers in only 2 colors, silver and red. 90% of our members want the silver regardless of their car color.

Your basic colors are the best. Black and White this will keep the cost down for us and basically show well against most car colors. ERV |

I just emailed a member of my local club that makes decals for us. I'll keep you all updated. Most likely it will be entirely script (i.e. no graphics). I'm going to see what it will cost for the decals in white, silver, and black.
Does everyone want just the address or the "F-body RR & AX Forums" below that too? Also what about size? Before it's all said and done I'll probably start a poll. |

Well, I ain't putting any stickers directly on my car. OK, I would for the right offer of paid sponsorship (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
I would put the sticker on a magnetic backing, and only use it on race days. There's only so much room on the rear quarters, and the class numbers take up the area behind the doors, so it's basically got to go over or behind the wheel arch (above the rear fascia). Size accordingly (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

I'd be glad to run a small vinyl sticker on my rear hatch glass. Since I'm not into any kind of competition yet it would be more of just an exposure tool for the site.

....I would put some stickers on the car...but make them small and unobtrusive.....maybe 1-1.5 inches high and 3-4 inches wide......
I think something stylish like the BMW sticker before would be nicest, and get the most attention....there is a lot of text/font stickers, and they are boring..... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) |

I'll probably put mine on the side of the rear bumper cover. My doors are taken up, and I don't think these stickers would look good above the rear tires on the Q/P.
I would also put one BIG sticker on my hood. If they were available. I've wanted something big for the hood for awhile. |

A static cling sticker on the inside of the window would be OK, but a sticker on the outside of the glass will look like crap quickly, especially after the ice scraper hits it a few times.
Besides, anything adhered to the outside of the car is a real pain when detailing (not that I do that as often as I should, but ...). So, I'd leave a static cling sticker inside the glass all the time (if printed on the right side), but anything with adhesive would go on magnetic backing. |

I'd recommend both a static cling smaller sticker and a normal exterior sticker.
I'd only consider a sticker that I could put on my fenders, preferrably about the size of the Evolution school stickers (3x6?) The autoxers can then put magnetic sheet behind it and others of us can stick it on the car. |

Yeah, I don't think many people would want Lonnie's thunderfrrax on the hood (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
Besides, I have to reserve the hood for my "primary" sponsor (if that ever becomes somebody besides me) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Well how about 7x2" sticker with FRRAX.com and F-body RR & AX Forums below that. Then we could have a smaller sticker 3.5x0.75" that simply reads FRRAX.com.
Does that seem reasonable? The smaller sticker could also be a static cling? I don't think anyone wants a big static cling do they? I'm assuming most sign shops can make static clings. I'm thinking black, white, and silver for the big decal. For the small one we wouldn't want black since it will probably be going on glass. |

Rob that sounds fine.
At this point, I would get with your sign guy, and work out a price. Then work on the appropriate mark-up. You, your sign connection, and Chris should be able to come up with something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, yet makes money for the board. |

For the stickers, I use that electro-static plastic thing that garages use on a small square to show when the next oil-change is due.
Anyways, I got a big piece of it and I glue the stickers to that. When I get at the track, I just put that on the glass and it sticks... after the day, take it out and put it in the trunk... so it doesn't stick to nothing much but glass, I find it's great... I put it in the upper part of my windshield. |

That would work I like it. That would make colors simpler too. Tell you what make one big for the regular sticker and a smaller one like everyone else discussed (sizes were mentioned earlier) and I'll take them to the print shop tomorrow or wednesday.

Ok, here ya go. First one is 7"x2" and the second is 3.5"x0.75". Both are 144 pixels/inch. I can increase the resolution to whatever you want or go down to the standard 72 pixels/inch, but you'll lose a lot of detail going that route. Both are jpegs but I can output to any format you want. I also tweaked the silver color slightly.

I like it better without the "WWW." I think two versions would be nice-one silver in the center and another white in the center.
I can take i960's files in on disk and get them made, but we might want to wait and see what everyone else comes up with. If i960 has a shop he likes that would probably be easier. Our local "Fast Signs" does decals and static clings. I also have a paypal account that can take credit cards if people don't want to mail checks. |

Instead of a white center alternate, I think red or blue would look good.
I think I like it better sans www too, but the full url would look good with a stylized topline of an f-body profile above it (with a 2nd gen, nascaresque spoiler). |

I took quite a bit of art in high school (weird for an engineering major isn't it?). I could draw a nice f-body outline. I think a 3rd or 2nd gen would be a nice outline-like sean mentioned. The only problem is getting the sketch into digital format-I'll see if I can sketch something up and then if the sign shop can do that.

This iroc would make the perfect outline. I think the 3rd gen is most identified/pictured car when you think of an f-body. You could make the spoiler touch taller and maybe add a splitter.

I don't know any shops around here that do this kind of stuff. I'm sure there are some, but I've never checked them out. I can do pretty much anything in Photoshop (been using it since version 2.5 when it came on floppies), but I suck at doing hand drawn stuff. My brother is pretty good at artwork though and I do have a nice scanner to work with, so that's another option.
If these turn out nice I'll definitely put one on my car, and I don't even race! (yet). Still saving up to get a beater before I take my SS off it's daily driver status. |

I put all the decals on a single page on my website, which you can view here:
http://www.industrialtechware.com/frrax/ I made a new one which is at the bottom using an outline of the 3rd gen posted. I have to admit I'm not all that artistic so I'm sure someone could come up with something better. It's a transparent PNG, so if you are viewing it in Internet Explorer it will fill in the transparent areas with a lighter gray color. If you view it in Mozilla, it works properly and shows the background through. Just wanted to get an idea of what it could look like without a solid white background. I tried using a transparent GIF instead, but the edges get all jaggedy and it looks like crap. When printing none of that will matter, assuming the printing people can handle it. |

I like the 3rd gen one I think it's important that the shape be distinctively f-body. We could offer them with or without a car outline. If someone could post a good side pic of a 4th gen I'm sure i960 could do that.

Guys given the choice of sign shops, would you support "just another sign shop" or a fellow F-body enthusiast.
I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but Brent Frankner is making vinyl decals. Someone should check with him to see if he's interested. I don't think he charges and arm and a leg. That way we can still send profits to Chris for the board, but not cost us a boatload at the same time. Also, I like the plain old FRRAX.com or www.FRRAX.com. |

QUOTE (ESPCamaro @ Feb 10 2004, 05:22 PM) Also, I like the plain old FRRAX.com or www.FRRAX.com. Lonnie if you only want frrax.com I'm sure that will be made seperately. If not these decals are usually done in sections so you could just not apply the outline part. I emailed Brent about the decals-awaiting reply. I also asked if he can make static clings. Either way I think he'd be a great choice for decals. |

Here's one I threw together (kinda rough), with a 98 up Camaro outline:

I also like Gary's, but I'd recommend a white background for one version of the sticker and a black background for the other one with a white outline of the car. That way they'd work with whatever color combo a car owner has.
I still vote for static cling versions in a small size and normal stickers in a 3x6 or so size. I guess we'd have to take a poll to make sure we had enough interested people in various designs before a decision was made on the final package. |

I also like Gary's red, white, and blue 4th gen. I would put one of the white outlined ones on each side of my trailer, and maybe th black one on the back window of the car?

I like Gary's too, and the front wheel arch is a nice touch. However, the LS1 Camaro's nose profile is, ahem, not it's "best side" (I have one, and I've warmed up to it, but...). Some faint suggestion of the LT1 Camaro, LS1/LT1 Firebirds, or 3rd gen IROC fascia would help it, I think.
In other words, it's a bit too bullet-nosed. It needs a little more air dam character, like a smoothed, stylized version of i960's airdam. |

Way to go Gary!
I like the last one...red, white, and blue with the BLACK outline! I don't mind the LS1 nose on the sticker.....and I HATE em in real life! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) |

I can clean up the outline some to make it look better, and try changing the nose a bit as well just to see how it looks.
The concept for these designs is that the background color is not really part of the sticker. If these are done with layered vinyl, then you would just have the outline of the car and the lettering on the surface after applying. For example, on the one with the grey background, the color you see in place of the grey would be the color of the paint (since there really isn't anything there as far as the sticker is concerned). Another option is printing them onto adhesive vinyl or the static cling material, in which case the background could be a color or be clear. One other thing, if these are done with layered vinyl the overall size can't be too small because the smaller letters will start getting small enough to be a pain to deal with. I can tweak the design some to help with this, so I'll look into this also. |

Ok, I made a few adjustments and changed the nose to the LT1 style. It looks better this way IMO...

Here's Brent's reply... He doesn't do static cling but I or somebody could get someone else to.
QUOTE Hey Rob!
I'm sure we can work something out! I've done similar for businesses and websites before. What I have found is the most popular type of decal like this is something small. Small is good for two reasons... 1) With a smaller and less "obnoxious" decal, people are more likely to place them on their car and 2) smaller decals are cheaper for the business! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I would suggest sticking with just www.FRRAX.com at probably around 8" or less. I'd have to do some test sizing to see what would look best. Decals like this people can place on their a pillar or at the lower portion of their rear window and it doesn't "overpower" the car and instead just shows support for what is on the decal. If this sounds like something you might be interested, email me the font you used and I'll come up with a good size for you and give you a price. I don't do static clings (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) All I have is a vinyl cutter and static cling type decals are made using an inkjet type method. Thanks! --------------------------------------------- Brent Franker - Inverness, FL 94 Vortech Z28 * 96 Z28 SS #1655 http://www.bfranker.badz28.com 4th Gen Appearance Modification Guide http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/appearance |

Perfect! The nose job and tweaking really helped. I think it looks more balanced with the www under the hood IMO. Spelling out "roadrace and autocross" looks better too.
The black outline version would look good either either as a two layer or on a white background as shown. As a two layer, it would also work well when applied on white magnetic sheets. A white outline version would work well as a clinger on clear or as a two-layer. Black wouldn't show up against the interior (or on dark cars). Rob, can Brent work with a graphic design like we've come up with? If not, I'd still vote for keeping the graphics and finding a shop that can do it. |

I would like to also have a smaller decal, but I like Gary's for the banner 3x6" decal. |

Here's Brent's reply...
QUOTE I could do that decal assuming it is in small numbers (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) It looks like you are wanting an outline in black with the red and blue numbers. I can do stuff like that but it is very time consuming because rather than just cut vinyl, I have to put it together too! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) But, it sounds like you don't want a bunch of these so that'll work. Just to give you an idea of how big of a pain in the arse multicolored layered vinyl is, I charge $15 for a 1"x1" 30th ann white faced gauge decal. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) This won't be that much if you order a handful of them but just giving you an idea how multi colored stuff is WAY more time consuming! That image does look good though and would come out nice with vinyl! I can also call some vinyl suppliers and ask them about static cling and if regular vinyl can be placed on top of cling vinyl and get the same effect. Can you ask who ever made that image if they have a vector image of the car outline? If not, can you see if they can save that at like 1000 dpi and fairly large? If I can't get the vector image of the car then I'm going to have to use a trace program to change the gif/jpg into a vector image and the larger/clearer image I have the better it comes out! Let me know how many of these were wanting and we'll go from there! Gary, if you could please email Brent what he needs and you can work it out. bfranker@tampabay.rr.com I'm going to start a seperate thread to see how many people want this decal. EDIT: Here's the other thread... http://mtfba.org/rrforum/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=391 |

EDIT: Here's the other thread... http://mtfba.org/rrforum/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=391 I agree with Brent, doing this in a multi color design will be much more time consuming. With three colors, its really three times as much work (actually a little more because of the "assembly"). Regardless, I will try to vectorize the design myself asap and send it to Brent. I'll also create a version that is to be a single color, in case we need to go that route for cost reasons. I think it would look pretty good in just one color too. Also, since there is some interest in the 3rd gen outline, I'll try to put that together as well in case there's enough interest for Brent to do some of those as well. Is the font ok with everybody? I have tons of different fonts, I was just throwing something out there and didn't expect that we'd decide on a design so quickly. |

I love this final version of the graphic.
But, it appears that the height to width ratio of the proposed graphic is 1:4. If that is true, then a 7” wide sticker would only need to be 1.75” tall. The proposed height is 3”. Do you need all of that blank space above and below the graphic? I have never put any kind of sticker on my car, and I would rather it be as short as possible. Six or seven inches wide seems reasonable. Well, I did put a “Taft for President” sticker on my 1908 Oldsmobile, but I had a hard time removing it (they didn’t have bumpers back then) and decided that I would not do it again. |

I was just getting rough dimensions. The decal will most likely be multi-pieced so the background is not part of the decal. IOW, each individual letter is one seperate piece and the silhouette is one piece. To everyone else we are taking a headcount in the other thread-we need that to determine pricing. |
