Just a reminder....Gran Turismo 4 comes out on Tuesday, Feb 22. I've been waiting a few years for this, I'm sure I'm not the only one anticipating this game. :drive:

PS. Go #24!!! 3 Daytona 500 wins, 4 Brickyard 400 Wins, 4 Championships, 70 wins....... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Yeah, so does Circuit City, and Toys R Us shows March. It's going to be at most stores later today or sometime Tuesday from what I've been reading on the boards.

I was disappointed.. More like GT3.5.. The AI still is incredibly bad..

If you want an actual racing sim, for the PC, check out GTR - FIA GT Racing

you can download the demo on that page..

The graphics are okay (IMO, better than GT4 simply cause of the higher rez and AA and ANIS i have with my vid card) Actually I take that back, they are great, but miss some latest and greatest effects.. But little details and realism this game is suppsidly unheard of. The physics engine and modeling is incredible.. They have actual MOTEC telemetry data to model the car.. then got actual drivers of the car to test it and sign off on the realism! I don't think no other sim game as gone to that depth.

Hell, the gameitself even spits out MOTEC data files, and you open the actual MOTEC analyzer tool to look at your car data!!!

This game has pretty good electronic music too for the menu's and stuff. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

With a logitech Drivier Force Pro (get rev (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) and the beta 4.60 Logi drivers its pretty wild. The Force Feedback is awesome.. GT4 doesn't even hold a candle to it (with the DFP too)

people go crazy with all assorted high end interface hardware..

Also, they have lots of online play and online leagues...

Its incrediblly fun to have a _clean_ race with people online.

Unfortuantly, you have to order overseas to get a copy here in the US... I got mine preordered.... total cost incluidng shipping is $50 USD... so its not unreasonable.

I admit it's not the most realistic, but it isn't bad at all. Some of the cars are cool especially the f-bodies, vettes, and GTO's. I also like modifying the car like mine and comparing lap times to stock. I'm so happy there is a McLaren F1 on it this time. Since I have a laptop, I don't have a computer worthy of games anymore. I remember liking TOCA. Ferrari 355 Challenge is realistic for the PS2.

yeah GTR is a great game, i had the demo, and i tried the european version, its a very serious simulator.

i figured gt4 would be mostly just more cars than gt3? and i've never played gt3 or 4, but used to play gt and gt2 ALOT.

personally i'm waiting for forza motorsport on xbox (i don't have a ps2, and don't want to pay for one either). I played the forza demo and i think its more realistic than the other games i've tried (exception probably GTR, but its a little bit of a different type of simulator, gtr being for a specific series, gt4 and forza being production cars that can be modified).

I need my racing fix somwhow, school and cleveland winters screw me up.

Visually its similar to GT3 but with much more realistic driving dynamics (IMO). You can't get away with some of the crazy stuff you could in GT3.

It also has about twice as many cars. Sounds great right? Well it seems like most of them are either A) so pathetic no one in their right mind would drive/buy it (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) some obscure version of an Evo, Skyline, Impreza, etc. C) some ridiculously dumb concept car.

GT4 has a few more "real world" tracks, notably Suzuka (F1 track) and the Nurburgring.

Overall its a good game although it "feels" similar to its predecessors. But since this is the first time I've played with a wheel/pedal setup (Logitech Driving Force Pro) it sure seems alot more interesting.

I picked up my copy at Costco (42 bux) last week.

It's still fun. I was just bummed that you can't transfer everything from GT3 over to GT4. I had over 3 mil and a garage full of cars, all it would transfer was the A & B license and 100K. So now I'm going through the International A & B licenses and then the Super. The dirt stuff is incorporated in the Intern'l stuff, now. I always enjoyed the WRC stuff in GT3.

I've picked up a copy and the only thing that I'm unhappy with is that the controller is as customizable as it was in GT3. Now you can only throttle/brake with the left analog stick, I had always used the right for that and steered with the left. But I haven't played it much yet, I want to finish Goldeneye: Rogue Agent first.

Maybe just me, but it seems like the handling dynamics are off. If I install the stiffest springs and bars possible in a RWD car, it should oversteer under full power...

For what seems to me like more realistic handling and more fun, I turn the understeer driving aid up full blast and shut the oversteer aid off......

So far I've got a Buick GNX, GS Vette, and Z28. And a GTR M3, I sold the regular M3...Which was the first car I bought.... A few other cars of course but those are my favorites.

Seems to me ALOT like GT2 with better graphics. Which I liked GT2 and like this one too.

I always turn the driving aids off completely. If you want an "exciting" experience then try a mid-engined car. Both the MR2 I bought and the MGF I drove in a license test are so loose I can't believe they would sell the real things to the general public.

Do any of you guys keep your job if you buy a set top box? <chuckle> I wonder if there is there an emulator that plays GT4...I run GT (the original) on my laptop using ePSXe which was a free download. I added a directX and directSound plugin to leverage hardware acceleration. I have a USB gamepad pro that's plug and play. With analog steering. Then I uploaded a huge memory card with a million dollars and 50 cars. I still had to complete the licences but that took a total of 60 minutes since I've played it for countless hours several years ago and know the tracks. Now I run custom cars for the GT series and special events in 32 bit color at 1024x768 and 60+ fps with full speed sound! Don't know if PS can do that! My Bro-in-law got it. The graphics are great but I think that the throttle/brake buttons are way way too sensitive. It`s the same as GT3. A game that has awesome physics is NASCAR Heat Dirt to Daytona. MY bro-in-law and I have worn this game out! Button sensitivity is great and the way the game reponds to throttle modulation is fantastic. GT3 always seemed like its throttle response (Even with a hopped up ZO6) was lazy. I`m talking when your at speed and you are on and offf the gas. D to D responds great t the slightest suspension tuning. I have killer Bristol, Darlington, Rockingham Cup setups.
The game play is great too. The way a car spins out (usually my bro-in-law after I nudge him (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ) looks so realistic.
In other words: I won`t be getting GT4.
At least not now while the price is high.

Dale Earnhardt still Rules. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/drink.gif)

I'm a fan of the EA series, they're one of the established publishers. Though I'm not sure about the nc line used to be very accurate.

Nurburgring is awesome. I just took the 725hp M5 there last night. In the latest BMW Roundel magazine, they are offering a driving school there in the summer.

I've got the x-box. Could not help but check on this thread though. I was in to the PS2 once befroe it crapped out. Did like GT3 from what i have seen of GT4 the graphics and all seem to be the same as 3. That to me is the biggest downfall, pretty flashy. Still want to try it though (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I used to really get into that.
For the Xbox I think I read someone liked the TOCA racer PS2. For the X-box platform it is 'Pro Race driver' That one is pretty good for a sim on the Xbox. Real race series and cars are used. They have sears point (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) No laguna (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Real race atmosphere. The game had alot of influence from real road race drivers to get the dynamics right.

As far driving aides hell yeah those get turned off immediately. Always in the car 1st person and manual trans is the only way. I cant stand watching the car drive... like a RC. Stupid why bother. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

Exactly. If you aren't in the car, you see things you shouldn't be and I don't feel like I'm in the car reacting to the tail sliding/etc.

Yea I misunderstood, I just looked at 'NASCAR' and assumed that was the EA sport version, woops! Nascar's gem was never the 'physics' which was absolutely binary. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Speaking of physics, the game that really rocked was SCGT (Sport Car GT) for Win98. With a Logitech wired force-feedback wheel and pedals, quick analog reactions paid off. Don't know if D to D has something like that for PS or PS2. In SCGT you can tune for short tracks like Limerock or long tracks like Road Atlanta, not fantasy courses and handling settings.

I tried a steerting wheel and pedals a few years ago and hated it. Of course no feel, feedback. Bat like I said that was probably about 7,8,9 years ago. I`m under the assumption that they are MUCH better now.
Tuning for D to D works that way too. Heck, if you want to take a setup from Darlington to Bristol (not that you`d want to (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ) you can. It lets you do what ever you want.

I like the "plastered on the front bumper" view. My bro-in-law uses the "above and behind the car" " view. I always tell him "don`t look at your car!"

Since there are a few here who have it, I thought of something fun. (It's the spirit of US)

We should all decide on a car, and a track or two or three, and report back our times......

Cars would have to be
#1 Cool
#2 Readily available. I have a GS Vette, and a Z28 (LT1) but both of those were purchased in the used lot, and aren't always there.
