Kevin, Lonnie, and I will all be there. I believe a few other regulars will be there as well.
http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEve...227096567972049 (IMG:http://www.robmeadway.com/esp.jpg) I'm going to take Lonnie to school...yeah right (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I'll just be happy not to embarass myself too bad. I'm already working on excuses like I'm only on old 275's...he was spraying nitrous...my magnets are heavier than his decals. |

I knew you'd chime in. I remember when those Nitto's were new. I think Sean ran an entire season on them and then Evolution phase II. Maybe you're just a glutton for punishment?

(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotf.gif) I'm sure they have between 140 and 200 passes on them. I think I (and my various co drivers) have put over 70 passes on them since I bought them. I can't believe I haven't seen cords yet..... (It's too late in the season to buy fresh rubber now, we'll just nurse them along). I know, I'll loan you my tires (and the excuse) and use yours for this event..... |

I just realized I forgot my best excuse the car's roll center is 3" lower and this will be its first autocross like that. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
I think Lonnie's tires could use some armor-all err traction compound. |

I was thinking of running in SM2 (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/whip.gif)
I wouldn't worry much. Drive right without bone head mistakes and stay on the gas HARD when you can, and it'll be a good battle. |

My front tire on the passenger side is completely smooth. No grooves. No wear indicators. Running 3/4" toe out will do that....And yes I did fix that. I'm at 1/8" out now..... I'm considering getting two more front tires to end the season but may not. I've got a couple ideas up my sleeve for next year, and may hold off for this year. He PAX'd first overall that day (shocking I know). Sam, I'll be calling about a Centerforce clutch sometime today. |

If he does, I just hope I have race tires. The last time I had just corded two of my R tires and I was stuck on streets. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif)
Why don't we try to get a bunch of F-body cars in for an event, maybe the Oct. 16th which is OVR's cancer charity event. It would make for a good excuse. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Oh please. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Me-not the best driver in the world on 275's and a new to me setup-and an untuned one at that. Ok, ok I have more HP & TQ. vs Lonnie-attends tour events and has 315's/335's on a familiar tuned setup. FWIW I pax all over the place locally. Anywhere from 8th to 30th out of 100-130 drivers. I've only been in a the top ten a couple times. I'm really nervous that I won't make a fool out of myself. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) BTW, I'm putting on my random tech torque arm as we speak. Going to set it at -2* or as close as I can get this angle finder is hard to read. If I didn't need my tires to last the rest of the season I'd offer you a codrive-or if I could actually fit your tires on my car. I do know a talented local f-body hotshoe that I'm going to also use for tuning feedback once I think I got it about perfect. If the rally cars stay in ESP I'll order 555RII's if not another set of V710's. I've decided to hold off on 17x11's til I can afford a 17x11/17x12 combo from CCW. I'm tired of settling for second teir parts-I'll just stop spending until I can put the best stuff on. |

I know just making a joke...You know what my thoughts are what you've got going on.
If you feel like it's working and want me to take it for a spin I'll just take it for one run. I'll just tell grid that my car won't fire. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) At the Toledo Tour I told grid my car was "broken" and drove Sam's car because he had rain tires...Miraculasly it was fixed for Sunday without doing a damn thing to it. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) I wouldn't worry about the rally cars. Next year you will again have the best car for the class. And V710's I think are very durable IF you don't have something messed up with your alignment and IF you don't do dumb stuff (divebomb into corners flast spot tires etc, etc.) I am considering buying a set of Ecsta V700's but those would be for a test and maybe local events...710's IMO are AWESOME!! |

(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) I'll say one thing I was amazed me was the cold grip of the V710's-better than my victoracers, but the victoracers are tough tires and very forgiving. I was considering running victoracers next year if I can get some more runs per season it might be worth it. Oh I just installed the random technology torque arm tonight. Pinion angle appears to be about -2.5*, but I'll probably double check it once more. I did find a bad thing. The previous owner evidently disconnected my torque arm when he changed the rear end gears. Well both the torque arm bolts were not much more than finger tight. I cleaned the threads, added some loctite 271, and torqued them to 100 ft-lbs. the holes had elongated on the torque arm too. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) This is the same guy that had the stick to the hurst shifter really loose and ready to fall off and had my pinion gear nut really loose. It looks like I've finally gone through enough of the car that all of his mistakes are fixed. I'm going to double check ride heights tomorrow and check and maybe adjust the toe. The car pulls slightly to the right. Caster and camber are maxed out (but I'll double check) so I'm going to toe it out a little on the left and toe it in a little on the right. The alignment feels good other than that and the car feels "correct" trying to slalom it on street tires. I hope my hawker battery gets here in time-I should've taken your Harley battery advice-it was the same price I paid onlien for mine. I also have some 1LE fog light covers on the way to delete the front fogs. |

Hey Rob where did you get the foglight grilles and how much. I've still not put them on mine.
As far as tires, I don't think there is ANYTHING better then the 710's. They have TONS of grip, are very forgiving, and really quite durable. Only issue is that the get to hot easy. Which mean for you, being on 275's you DEFINATELY need a garden sprayer full of ice water for every event. I've used the sprayer a few times now, with a single driver and on 315/335 tires. |

That's what I've noticed about them the two times I had a codriver. They overheat so damn easily and even with icewater we were having issues. I codrove with the same person the prior year once on victoracers and it wasn't that big a deal. Perhaps I do need to spray them at single driver events.
I got the covers at P&G Chevrolet www.partszoneonline.com I think $4.32 each or something. They're a tad more than GM Partsdirect, but they charge you real shipping rates and you can call up and talk to a real person if you have a problem. I also have a new dash panel on the way mine developed an 8" crack. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) I'm going to try bondo and paint on my old one to fix the crack and use flat black plastic paint to cut down on glare. |

Rain? I may have to run my street tires for the first time ever (they are probably faster than the excuse for race rubber that I've been using). |

That's because you were shooting my ammo..... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/nutkick.gif) Yea. It can take it (barely.... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ). I just finished sorting the brass last night. I've tumbled all of the .45 acp brass (and that's a really big pile) and filled a box that's about 10x14x4 nearly to the top. The .40 brass is in the tumbler now (I'll run it tonight) and I'm throwing the 9mm stuff away. I'm sure that I spent well over $100 in ammo for our last outing (and I'd do it again). I picked up 200 more rounds of 45 last night for this weekend (plus the 250-ish I have left). |

I've got about 300 rounds of .45. I need to pick up some .40 though.

I had a .44 special S&W (8" barrel I think it was BIG gun). It was a GREAT handgun. Quite, low recoil, and I was pretty decent with it but sold it JUST because of the ammo costs.
I had a .357 S&W before that and sold it because it was HORRIDLY loud and had quite a bit of recoil. And my last to be sold gun was a Mossberg 835. And when I had it I was willing to pay ANYONE who could load it and empty it in succesion. I'm a big guy and I could barely take it. It had some sort of custom turkey choke tube my father bought, and with high volocity loads it was absolutely brutal. Before I bought the Limb Saver recoil pad it would make you feel as though you were in a car accident just shooting it. I wish I had that so you guys could shoot that thing. |

Lonnie,
I'm not a small guy, but I have owned several magnum caliber rifles. I'm used to a beating. I once sat at the bench and fired 100 rounds of 300 Winchester Magnum in a morning (it was cool out so I could shoot, let it cool, shoot some more). I no longer have that rifle, but I do have a Remington 700 in 7mm mag right now that I like to dust off from time to time. I also owned a .454 Casull. That is a handgun that will issue you a beating. The new 500 Smith and Wesson is far nicer to shoot than that Casull was. |

As far as heavy recoil long guns the hardest hitting thing I've shot was a Mosin Nagant M91/30. It's a light bolt action gun, has a steel buttplate, and is chambered in 7.62x54R for those that don't know. I actually kinda liked the recoil from it, but it was kinda hard.
I used to have a S&W 686 6" in .357 mag, but it wasn't that harsh since the 686 is a big frame. My XD .40 is nothing as far as recoil goes and my 1911 isn't that bad since it's so heavy. I carry Winchester Ranger .40 180 grain in the XD and Winchester Ranger .45 230 grain +P in the 1911. |

I shot a S&W Scandium frame .357 mag. It weighed 10 ounces (11?) and was loaded with full house 158 grain loads (595 ft lbs of muzzle energy). It snapped upward so violently that the trigger guard hit my first knuckle on my trigger finger hard enough that I thought it would bruise. That thing was far worse than anything else I've ever fired.

BTW Kevin, I found some more reasonably priced options for rifle (limited in length though).
The real question for everyone is who will be the faster Wasted Nitto Express driver this weekend? And do you want me to stop and pick up the race tires Sunday morning? |

In the last 3 events I've ran I've made 20 runs. THREE of those were clean runs. ALL others had cones. Just realized this today.
I'm not changing anything though. Hitting cones just means I'm pushing the car. It's not like I'm plowing dead square into them. Hell half the time I didn't even feel/hear it And FWIW I hope the course is really tight too. A tight course has more technical areas. Which means more areas to pick up time. (OR TO LOSE TIME) JUST DON'T RAIN. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif) |

Yeah I just made a mount out of some scrap aluminum.
It's probably a bit heavy but it's damn secure. I'll probably drill a bunch of holes in it to lighten it. |

Well, SM2 blew up pretty well. Danny Popp ran in it with Dave Kutney. I managed a third after them. I guess my co-driver status is starting to look shaky. The Nitto's are still good for a few events as well.
Rob took second in ESP. I picked up your trophy and left it with Kevin. |

Heya,
I just wanted to say thanks to Trackbird and Pimpmaro for riding with me I had a blast. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif) I really wanted to make Kevin pee alittle but failed. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) My last run felt really good and I got it together but can't wait to finally know Old Blue alittle better and once again will try to make Kevin pee. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Thanks again guys!! Liz |

Nice meeting everyone. Sorry I didn't stick around longer. Fall classes start for me tomorrow morning. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
Oh yeah and needless to say sunday for me started with one stupid mistake that snowballed and killed the rest of the day. I haven't driven for a month and 3 runs wasn't enough with the new setup. Ok, ok I know lame excuses, but I swear I'm not that bad. I guess that's what I like about autocross the million and one ways to screw up every event and the constant challenge it provides. Regardless of how the event went I enjoyed meeting everyone from the board and finally putting some faces with the names. Oh yeah and Congrats to Bill (Axoid). And thanks to everyone for their help this weekend. |

Well, my best run was the first one. I really thought I had my head in the game at first.....
It fell apart from there..... My second run was not so good, I got about 2.5 seconds slower (I got lost on course). My third run I was progressively behind the car, it got loose and I spent the whole run trying to get caught up.....right up until I looped it (and really looped it well too). So, the day was a bit of a write off, but I know where I screwed up and I'll learn from that. Time to start on the car.....again..... It was great to meet Rob and Lonnie, sorry that I took off, but I had some things that I needed to attend to at home and had to run on short notice. And Liz....I'll ride with you anytime (even if you don't drive like a girl..... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotf.gif) ). |

Ok, so I guess it's my turn to post up... and hell, I left early. Rob, Lonnie, it was great to meet you both... those LT1 cars are an absolute blast. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Here's my version of the day... I just started a new job and was trying to conserve funds during the week, so I was going to do a walk on registration today (limited to 30 people). So I set the alarm for 6... I wake up, shut the alarm off, and I think I'm goin about my business... next think I know, I find myself back in bed, just waking up a second time at 7:45... I call Kevin in a panic to have him save me a spot and I'd pay him back... He's still in his driveway! Neil overslept too and they were all waiting on him! So I fly down to the stadium and I missed open registration... and they didn't let me register in place of some who had committed in early registration but didn't show. Oh well, I had a blast riding. Rob, your car feels great. Lonnie, your car is a beast. Liz... well, just... I see how it is... save all the best runs for Brad and Kevin... just show me the alternate view of the course (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Now for all you all... just you wait till I learn how to drive... and learn how to make it to registration on time... then You all will REALLY be in trouble.. If you think it took them forever to run the groups today, just wait until they have to reset the cones after my runs. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif) |

Nice to meet everyone. I didn't get a chance to say goodbyes to some of you because you were already working by the time I was done.
Kevin you got your swaybar right? I sat it over by Rob's car. I told you guys I was on a roll of hitting cones. |

From what I understand, ESP kill more cones yesterday than any other class. So many of us may have driven badly, but we made an impression. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
My day started off good but went to hell at the second turn of the first run. Went in too hot and ate 3 cones. Two corners later looped it and spent the rest of the run trying to keep the back end under control. The second run was better but I nipped 2 cones, The third was going good until the 3 quarters mark when I looped it again and nailed 3 more cones. It was good seeing you again Lonnie and nice meeting you Rob. QUOTE Oh yeah and Congrats to Bill (Axoid). Congrats for what? Producing the most tire smoke for the day? Wow does that thing engage low on the floor (and it currently chatters a bit). The balljoints for the upper control arms will be here today (most likely), more negative camber here we come. And, I have been running around gathering up used Victorracers to finish the season on (anything will be faster than the Nitto's of steel.....they are wearing like iron though). So, at the next event, I expect to be slightly faster, or have no clue how to drive the damn car..... :drive: (and, seeing the ESP times, I don't feel bad about Neils time on this hockey pucks we have been calling tires) |

I didn't slam one, but I think I ran over the base of a cone in the first chicago box, that may have been enough. Yea, we'll rename it, but I'll hold my suggestions until we see how we drive it. Wow, interesting.... Had Lonnie managed a clean run in this lifetime, he'd have won by a mile (*ahem*, with a stock height PHB). Lee Franz is a very nice guy from Findlay, Ohio, he helped me big time last year with some control arms!
But Lee's car is very, very, very stock. Lee will tell you that he's not near the top of the fastest guys, for what it's worth. We've talked about it from time to time.... Someone was saying how this car felt to that car, and that one felt a lot more planted than the other...... Ok, but the more "stable" car was some 3 seconds off the pace of the one that moved around more. If you are going faster, the car is going to move around more. I'm going to try like hell to make an OVR event after Nationals in my car. Hopefully I can give some rides to you all so you can see what it's like/what the car feels like. |

Tonight, I think I'm going to make "Charcoal" C4 wheels to put the new to me Victorracers on (got some painting to do). It is almost the perfect shade of brake dust, so I'll stick with it. I think I might change out the "dead" front wheel bearings this weekend as well, and a fresh set of front rotors (I've almost ground clear through the slots on the current slotted ones....no slots on the new ones). It really will be a new car.....if I could only drive it. |

And yes I didn't push the car very hard at all that's why it felt so stable to the passengers. Brand new setup, zdero runs on it, and I haven't driven in a while. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) I normally have six runs to get things done. I could've driven a Z06 sunday and been killed by an HS car. I could also say ahem with an automatic, but that doesn't make an automatic better does it? I think you see what I'm getting at. |

I don't know what the coned issue is about. I've thought about it since this event and I've been hitting a TON of cones.
Oscoda Pro, cones every run but two. Toledo Tour I may have been clean but the car was so screwed I coudln't drive hard, Peru tour cones, Toledo Pro cones every run, cendiv event cones every run, the list goes on. I think if ALL of the car were wider not just the rear, I'd be in better shape so far as hitting cones. I really feel confident that had a I started from the begining of run 1 to make a fast one I'd have been in the low to mid 46's. I Know of where I could have picked up time. I think you can probably drive fine Rob, you've raced against Dave Kutney right. I usually run right with him, and had him beat by half a second at our last cendiv (if not for cones) That's the best way I can compare us. You know what I think about the setup, you're working with. But it is an important point that Sam made. Don't take it as picking on. The car is really different when going a little faster. I've already noticed it. While Sam probabaly doesn't think much of my driving, this is my first year where I felt OK about what I've done. I finally feel like I'm getting faster, and that the car is working well. I know of ways to get faster but need more seat time to work in the implementation. And yet I STILL have been getting beat down by Marcus Merideth all year. I'm sure that the car will feel like it's different when I'm able to keep up with him (when that happens-it will, and if the car where still the same at that point) I might come over for another OVR event but man is it a long drive. Maybe I could come when Sam does, since I'll have a couple parts to drop off and maybe to pick up. For the type of surface, and course, I'm pretty happy to have run with Alex raw time wise. |

I haven't run against Dave Kutney in quite a while, but I'm sure I would get stomped by him. I'm aware the car will feel different. Unfortunately I probably won't be going to OVR again this year. It's too expensive especially for only three runs. FWIW I pax anywhere from 8th-30th in my 130 car region-I'm very inconsistent. If I haven't driven the prior weekend my driving usually becomes total crap. I always seem to need a lot of warm up. I'm just not anywhere near the level where I could compete at nationals and get it done in three runs.
My objection aimed at Sam was his trying to compare setups from the results-that is ridiculous. |

If we don't have timer problems, we usualy get 4 runs, and often 5. But losing that hour and a half was "huge". Dave Kutney was in SM in Danny Popp's Z06 (he's the second part of the two part asskicking we received). |

I could also say ahem with an automatic, but that doesn't make an automatic better does it? I think you see what I'm getting at. You were reserving judgment until you got to run the car. Now you have. I mentioned that simply to prove my points in the past when I've been shouted down about speed and setups. I wasn't picking on you Rob, you just happened to be the guy with the new setup. If you are going to report on how it works (and you haven't yet, I know) the speed is an issue. I really mentioned this because I've already heard how stable you car was. Well, yeah. So the real reason was to point out to some others that the stability could be from a number of reasons. Ok, you felt you drove badly. I wasn't there, so who am I to say. In short what I see is a car setup very much like what you had previously going a lot faster, bad day or not. |

I have run against Dave, and he's never beaten me. Not in the '82, not in the '01. The whole thing that I try and remind folks of is that setup and test driving has to be done by someone consistent. If you aren't consistent, it's awfully hard.... ok, impossible to make reasonable determinations about the changes you've made in the car. If you want to run a different setup, fine. I'm simply cautioning you that you might not have been best served by doing it when you know your driving can have you at the top of PAX or way down..... My comparison is far from ridiculous. Both cars are ESP cars. Both are driven by drivers who are relatively inexperienced (a few years, few schools each). Both were run at the same time on the same lot. What's so crazy about that? It's not exact to be sure, but it's not ridiculous. I went from Hoosier to Kumho AT Nationals last year after looking at the exact same kind of data from the practice course and the ProSolo. Being that I'm not to wet behind the ears, I'm pretty good at interpreting things like that. |

Perhaps I took it the wrong way Sam but this is just my 3rd year and I mainly run local events. You've never seen me run so it's hard for you to see how bad/good I am compared to Lonnie. I think there is huge a difference in tires between Lonnie's car and mine and I'd guess he's a lot better driver. I've never beaten Dave Kutney when I've run against him. I just need more tuning time before go and judge the untuned settup. I'll have a much more experienced codriver with me sunday and at a test and tune two weeks later. It's hard to tune something over 1 or 2 autocrosses when you throw in the short amount of seat time and different surfaces and conditions.
I'm sorry I took what you said the wrong way, but I strongly believe it is bad logic to try and compare the setups. I had your setup to the "T" but i haven't said anything good/bad about it compared to this one-how can I? It's just too soon. Maybe if I can get another set of tires and make it up to OVR you and I could co drive my car. This is assuming I've got it tuned. Sound fair? You know I have a great deal of respect for you Sam-the engineering student in me won't let a judgement like this be made though. I'm withholding any good/bad judgements for a while. |
