Ok, we've discussed a track day before and lots of people said they were interested. We decided to combine with the National F-body Motorsports Event in 2005 and I showed up (I was the only one that wasn't already going that is). So, I have friends here in Columbus on a board www.trackaddicts.net and they have similar goals to us....tracktime. Last year they rented Gingerman and a good time was had by all. This year we were considering a bigger event (20 cars last year) and maybe a larger/more expensive track. We do not have prices on track rental (or we might just all show for an open track day), but we have started looking at the famous question of "where".

So, vote for your favorites and we'll see what we can work out for a frrax/trackaddicts track day (if you guys are interested....yes, I know it's "east coast", at least this time).

Feel free to post your preferences if you'd do more than one (vote then post). If we can pull it off, I'm for it.

For those of us that rarely leave the United States of Texas, how about a location for each of those tracks ...

Travel distance and date would be the biggest factor ...

I'd be interested. I need to have my car done first. I don't know where those tracks are, off the top of my head. I have limited track day experience so far. That's all I can think of to add right now...

Im a fan of Beave Run.(First road course HPDE weekend) But would be willing to look at other tracks.

If I can plan in advance I could do just about anywhere. Last yr A new addtion was coming to the family that didnt allow the travel. Kevin see what you can do. John

I voted.............I would pretty much go anywhere within a reasonable distance to meet up for a track day.

My only concern ( just MY concern!) is a conflict with another track event for me. :drive:

I am currently working with the local BMW club in POSSIBLY doing another track event for them. We are in the early planning stages. I can let you guys know how that goes as far as cost etc.

I'm going to be cutting it close on quite a bit of my track time funds this year with NASA (trying to get enough seat time for a comp license), but I can almost definitely make an Autobahn date assuming it doesn't conflict with a NASA Midwest date. It's only 30 minutes from my house, so I'd be a fool not to use the track time if you go there.

I could probably come watch/BS/crew if it's at Gingerman or Putnam though. The drive to either place isn't too bad as long as someone wouldn't mind splitting a hotel room (or a tent if you can camp @ Gingerman).

I agree with Mitch. Other than that, it dpends on my money at the time. If its going good, then i'll rent a trailer and head up there, but right now my main focus is getting me and the car to where it needs to be (see plans for winter thread)

I would go to any of the ones in the poll except Geingerman and Autobahn and I probably could be convinced to go to one of those. ...comes down to work schedule and available vacation days...

Due to the complexity in scheduling and costs, I would recommend than frrax-ers simply attach themselves to an established track day. Just another idea. I know that in the past NASA gave a 10% discount for 10-or-more registrations from a group. ...and you could always go to a track-sanctioned day (like a Nelsons Fundayz).

On the other hand, I like the possible lower car counts at a "private" event.

... and as Keith said, if tagged to a NASA event, a discount could ensue.

Being as diverse a group as we are, it'll be tough to get most of us together for an open track day. I'd have to believe that to get many of us together in several different groups and tracks would be the most we could try and accomplish.

Now that NASA National in Sept, that'd be a different story.

If your up for a challenge, think you can drive, think your car handles try Waterford once. It's a very challenging 1.5Mile 13 turn track.

This track is where the likes of an ITA Honda CRX and a Full tube frame GT-1 are almost on level playing fields.

In addition to the local autocross schedule, I'm hoping to go to the NFME at IRP and get back to Road America with the MFBA. That's 12 weekends right there, plus the Pontiac Nationals/Firehawk Rally @ Norwalk, so I don't know how much time, tires or $ that leaves me.

Howdy,

I'd be up for anything within say 6 hours of Youngstown, OH, assuming my schedule doesn't have a conflict, the car is ready to go, and safety is addressed (corner workers at corners you can't see through and an ambulance on location at a minimum).

Safety would be covered. No problem there.

AV8SS currently lists this schedule for 2006:

March 11/12----------Carolina Motorsports Park

April ------------------TBA

MAY ------------------TBA

June 10/11-------------Putnam Park

July 7/8 -Nashville Superspeedway "roval". This is a Fri./ Sat. event and will be run under the lights both nights.

August 5/6-------------Beaver Run

September 23/24----Gingerman

October-----------------TBA

Again folks, this is a tentative schedule and is subject to change.

I'd be up for an track day in the 5-6 hour range of Columbus. I'm planning on going to the National F-body Motorsports Event next year since it is a little later in the year and autocross isn't going to be as high of a priority as is was this past year.

this idea is cool of frrax track calendar... I agree w/ Keith... we should focus on 1-2 days and then if successful, we can expand the amount of days for next year.
I'm upto for a place within 16hrs drive (~1000miles)

That's my plan.... See if we can get one to work out, then go for two, etc. Maybe we can run a calander full one of these days.....

For now, I'll settle for getting people to come to one.

My girlfriend and I are moving close to her family, so elmont is the place. I've been looking at jobs out on the Island and Rochester. So we may end up in "the sticks" which I wouldn't be opposed to (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I was up there visiting her family in March and it snowed on me, I went up there in a T shirt and jeans absent mindedly expecting TX weather, I paid for it dearly, NY showed me how it is (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/whip.gif)

The car will lag behind me a few months till I find a garage to put it in. But it shouldn't take too long. After driving around up there I'm not sure how my 5 7/8 ride height will fare.

edited for spelling

I've drive around with 26 1/4 current and had about 25 3/4. Its doable depending where in the state you go. But you might have issues. Sorry to get off track. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotf.gif)

I picked Nelson Ledges, but I would go to most of those tracks. I think most of them are within 8 hours for me (Buffalo). I also know that Nelson Ledges has some relatively cheap track time.

Id be up for beaverun, summit or nelsons, but Im also trying to squeeze in NASA events this year, and I work every other weekend (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/bs.gif) Of course it seems like every NASA event this year is on a weekend I work so i'll be trying to do a lot of switching with collegues but if this event falls in to one of my weeks off Im in for sure. I know of another small private group trying to put together a track day this summer in the same region. I went to their event last year, great group of guys, it was well run but a very small event, like 10-12 cars (at beaverun). Of course the fact that it was small meant we all had to pay a lot but we had a wide open track aaaaall day long. It was great. Let me know if you want to keep it all F-bod or not, if you want I can refer them to this thread and see if they want to chime in. They've already done a great deal of the legwork on this kind of deal, the guy even created his own company (LLC?) for insurance purposes or something to be able to rent tracks with min risk etc. They were looking for a bigger group this year. It would sure cut the costs down a lot if we went for our own track rental vs open track day. Just thinking out loud. Since they've already done a deal with beaverun it would be a piece of cake. You can also just tell me to shut up.

The last post before yours in this thread was actually in 2005....lol. It appears that someone voted in the poll which will pop it back up to the top (which is ok). This never really got off the ground when we last tried it, but we have more members now and I'm always up for giving it another shot if there is enough interest.

Anyone else?

This would be my choices.
  1. BeaveRun (from what I've heard is a nice track and not to far from me)
  2. Nelson Ledges (It pretty close to me, cheap track time, but the track is a bit bumpy)
  3. Waterford Hills (Very nice track, I had a blast last time I went. It is a bit of a trip but doable)
Autobahn and Putman Park are about the same distance (5-6hrs but since I don't have a trailer it is a bit far to drive and risk breakdown)

LOL, I guess it is back from the dead. Maybe we can combine it with http://www.race4awish.com/ and raise money for a good cause.

What kind of experience would be necessary?

Depending on that ^ and money I could possibly be down for Beaverun.

I'd *love* to do something like this.. but, I'm sort of like Mitch.. I almost never leave Texas... (Due to Distance, not desire)

The closest event to me would be Chicago, and that's almost 1700 miles from here.

Put up something like MSR, TWS, etc and I'll go (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) (TWS is still ~600 miles from me.. and I'm in the same state!)

I'm in Detroit so any of those would work for me. GIve me a chance to meet some of you and find out how slow my junk really is.

John, we haven't heard from you in a while.

Just come out to the 3balls event on April 30th and I'll show you how slow the fireturd is (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/burnout.gif)

Pending any disasters i'll be at Gingerman. Hopefully not with HAL drag shocks this time (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
