We decided to process the board upgrade to the latest version of the software tonight. We are still working out some of the details (sponsor banner, top menu bar, etc), but it should all be completed shortly. I apologize for the downtime and any difficulties. If you are having trouble with your account, please feel free to contact me (or post here) and I'll be glad to look into it.

Thanks and welcome to the new (and almost complete) frrax!

Thanks,

Kevin

Some posts are getting mangled. For example, in this recent thread from the autocross section (Joe's ESP question) http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/index.php?showtopic=6868&hl= , some posts have been replaced by an "email" button where the text should be.

Those are the same posts I have problems with. If I recall correctly, at least two and maybe all of them had quotes, and the posts without quotes look fine. After looking around a bit in other threads (with a rather foggy memory), I think that may be a theme - some posts with quotes aren't working right, and posts without quotes look fine.

However, the quoted posts made after the upgrade (like those in this thread) look fine, and there's a quoted post in this thread from before the upgrade: http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/index.php?showtopic=6770

Another possibility might that be posts that were edited are causing problems, depending on how the old board stored edits. If that's it, a lot of my posts may be gone (no big loss, but possibly useful software debug info), since I edit a high percentage of my posts (I always proofread before submitting, but often miss a typo or three or don't like my wording once I see it "in print"). I haven't looked around enough to say this is the problem, just tossing out an idea.

I'm getting this error when I log in:

Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.

The error returned was:

Looks like it is a Firefox/Mozilla issue:

I have noticed that there are two different styles of quotes here on the site.

The new posts have a different style than the old ones... That might be the issue.

I'm looking into it.

We didn't have any warning on the hacking. The culprit threatened to crash the site, so we took it down to upgrade it and hopefully fix the exploit he was using.

I got the spark plugs working again earlier... If they're not, I need to know about it.

Ok, see if you can login now.

On the thread display issues... There is a tool in the ACP that I'd like to run, it will go through and update the post content, and possibly fix the problems with the quotes not displaying properly.

The only issue is that with over 73,000 posts, it will take a while to run, and I'm not sure what will happen if I run it while the board is 'online'.

...no worries....I didn't realize we had a "criminal intrusion" (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) ....

A lot of pre update posts with quotes are empty - just a EMAIL tag. Some others are still there, don't see a pattern yet.

Netscape 7.1 W2000pro I guess I should try updating my Netscape

I'm running a "clean up" that should fix the quote problems. It's up to 21,000 posts right now and will run all night. It should be better tomorrow.

Also, I can't seem to post from work (even before the upgrade), I'm not sure if it's a new firewall setting (I can post on ls1tech and cc.com, etc) or just my machine, so if I'm not around much, I'm still here and I can answer and send PM's and do admin/mod functions, just not post????

A coworker had his personal website blocked as "violent/hateful/racist". It (and he) was actually none of that; his hobby is building a small functioning model of a Sherman tank (remote controlled, but big enough for his kids if he finishes it before they are grown). Apparently something on his page triggered some automatic content detection filter, but we never figured out what it was. FWIW, though, two of his children are adopted, so his household is actually multi-racial (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I had the same problem with logging in. I cleared my frrax cookie and re-remembered my login. Now when I return, it logs me in.

The odd part is, when I click on View New Posts, I remain logged in. When I clicked on one of the posts, it then showed me as logged out. Also, almost all of the smilies are broken for me.

spark-plugs are all always lit... do I have to go through every single thread in each section for them to go off ?
I don't necessarily read all threads, but the way it was set up allowed us to know where we had new replies/threads since last logged in.

If you look towards the bottom of the page (right above 'Board Statistics') on the right you will see a link 'Mark all posts as read'. That will take care of all the spark plugs.

Someone is going to shoot me for saying this, but I'll take my chances.

With the old board I could log on using my phone, although it was kind of slow and not everything worked right I could still post. I had to quote another post since there wasn't a 'post' button, but I still got it to work. I was thrilled when I saw the 'Lo-Fi version' link at the bottom of each page just now. It loads fine on the phone, but it offers no way to post at all! Not even on a real computer.

So I tried the full version and it crashed the phone, I had to pull the battery to get it working again!!! When you click on search with the Lo-Fi version you are directed back to the full version page, that works on the phone but asks me to log in. My log in isn't accepted then, but if I (wishfully) try the homepage again it shows I'm logged in... but crashes.

So is there away to allow posting on the Lo-Fi version without directing us back to the full version?

I'm going to guess not, but I'd have to check with the board designers to get a final answer.

So far, things look pretty good. The spark plugs are "missing" if you click on "view new posts", we get folders. I can live with it and don't care, but some made mention of the spark plugs.

Dan, what browser are you using? And, just post a link to one of them in this thread and let me take a look.

The "clean up" routine would only run to about 22,500 posts, then it wanted to die. I ran it about a dozen times and that's as far as I got. Hmm.

The only browser worth using... Safari! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I kid, but I work at Apple, so I'm legally forced to say that, or something.

http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/index.php?showtopic=4630&st=20

Sean's post at #21 is a perfect example. I see when I view the source that the text is, indeed, there.

However, it starts out as: <div class="postcolor" id='post-72032'> <!--QuoteBegin--Jon A+Aug 1 2005, 04:08--></span>

That </span> shouldn't be there, but removing it doesn't fix things. What I do get is an Email image followed by a -->. What makes that seriously weird is that that should be commented out. So it seems that somewhere some comment isn't being interpreted properly or is wrong. I'll try to look more into it later.

Odd, I still see it as (but with the old quote graphics):

QUOTE (Jon A @ Aug 1 2005, 04:08)
One worry I would have--especially with the LS1 ABS--is that it's "springiness" would somehow let the ABS conspire to bounce the arm on the bottom of the car. I don't know that this would happen, if it did I would think a preload change could tune it out, I'm just sayin' once again, no gaurantees.

But I wanted to let you know the option was out there.

Now that I'm getting most of the compliance out of my LCAs, I'm looking again at putting some back in to the torque arm link (where it belongs) with Jon's spring idea, but possibly substituting a die spring. Any spring will have less damping than the rubber pads, though.

Jason, any thoughts?

Has anyone tried using a coil spring with LS1 brakes?

How does post #8 in this thread look to you guys:

This is one of the oldest threads on the board, so I know it was updated by the script. Did it fix the post so you see it correctly?

Post 8 in that old thread looks fine in Firefox on Redhat. I haven't tried it on Windows XP.

Ok, then I just need to find a way to run the post rebuilding tool and get it to complete the task.

At work now, I have to log-in everytime I visit the site, even if the "remember me" box is checked. It was never like that in the past.

Only at work? Sounds like a computer specific problem and I'm guessing you can fix it by clearing you cookies and logging in again. Let me know if that does it.

Kevin, I'm sure you've figured this out by now - but the issue is the -- in the middle of the comment:
<!--QuoteBegin--Jon A+Aug 1 2005, 04:08-->

According to the HTML spec, a comment may not contain the characters -- anywhere except at its closing brace.

There are quite a few more errors, for instance:
<!-- TABLE FIX FOR MOZILLA WRAPPING-->
<table width='100%' style='padding:0px' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='0'>
<tr>
<td width='99%' style='word-wrap:break-word;''>

Double single quotes at the end of the style.

Not to mention that the page declares itself XHTML 1.0 Transitional, but has a middling 277 validation errors on it...

But just changing the comments in the quotes to remove the -- fixes the issue. If the fix-up script has issues pulling that off, it could be just as easy to modify the code that reads out the post info and remove them on the fly there.

Thanks Dan! I hadn't figured that out because (of several reasons really) I see the quotes properly (and I'm a hardware guy and not much of a programmer at all).

Let me try something again and get back to you guys.

The cookie issues seems to be whether you're visiting the site as www.frrax.com or frrax.com. Both work, but the frrax.com doesn't store the cookie properly (that is to say, it stores under frrax.com, but the site isn't smart enough to pull it back that way).

Near as I could tell. Updating my bookmarks to www.frrax.com fixed it for me.

Dan, what browser are you using? And, just post a link to one of them in this thread and let me take a look.

The "clean up" routine would only run to about 22,500 posts, then it wanted to die. I ran it about a dozen times and that's as far as I got. Hmm.

QUOTE (sgarnett @ Mar 7 2006, 01:04 PM) *
I also have the same problem. I'm using Firefox 1.04 on Win XP Home, Win XP Pro, and Redhat Workstation.

Try it now guys.

With the new version of the software, the update script finally ran the whole database last night. So (in theory), those issues should be resolved.

Let me know.

Excellent. Once I tried the script and it looked like it was going to run, I stayed up and let it go. It ran the whole database and I was hoping that it fixed it. Sounds like it did. That's excellent news.
