If anyone here has been considering a HANS device, this might be the incentive you need.

For those of you that have wanted a HANS but have steered clear of them because of price, here is your chance. Pricing on these is generally 865.00 regardless of where you go. And then some of them want to charge you to install the achors.

I have made contact with a licensed HANS dealer and he has agreed that he would work with us on the price if I got a few people on board w/ me. I HAVE to have one for the upcoming ORR season. I will have final pricing for 5 and 10 people tonight and can email it to any interested parties. This will include mounting of the anchors if you ship the helmet to him. Other wise you can do it on your own. It does come with instructions on how to do it.

I am hoping to get at least 10 people on board to drive the price down as far as possible. The more the merrier.

As it sits I have 4 definates and 3 "show me the pricing".

The dealer willing to do this understands that not all of us out there drive 200K prepped track only cars and don't have the budgets for HANS. But also knows that some of usout there with the "low budgets" need and want them. So he was willing to work something out, IF I could generate the interest.

This is a serious safety item guys and it doesnt take much to bang yourself up. Think about it. I will be purchasing one REGARDLESS of how many take advantage of this deal. It would just make swallowing the price alot better with a few people on board.

Bummer. I just got mine last week. HMS does it for $865 and then they take 15% off any harnesses. Guys, get in on this deal....it sounds like a good one. Safety is important. Also, the install is easy.

Finally got pricing back from the guy and it didnt come back as good as originally expected. His wife and his decided to implement a "rewards" program rather than cut the big deals. We are looking at about 9.5% off retail and you have to get on his 1/month mailing list. You also get 10.00 credit/gift cert. for every 200.00 spent up to 600.00 if i remember right. And I still need 10 people on board to get the 9.5.


I honestly felt he was going to do better from the way he was talking. But thats what I get for thinking. Then again, anything off list price is better than nothing.

Auto collision kills Colleyville man, 40

CRESSON -- A 40-year-old Colleyville man died Saturday after a collision at the Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, in Hood County, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office. Gregory Bruder died at 1:42 p.m. at Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital. Further information on the wreck was unavailable Sunday. According to the National Auto Sport Association Texas Web site, the association was hosting "road racing, high-performance driver education and time trials" at the Motorsport Ranch. John Lindsey, chief divisional director for the association, said association members' thoughts and prayers go out to Bruder's family.

A sobering reality ...

You might have to change your normal routine as far as getting and getting strapped in. And you might have a little difficulty getting out with it on. And I notice it while sitting in my car. But when driving, I never know it's there.

If you are like me and can't get in the car with on, spring for the quick disconnects so that you can attach the HANS to your helmet once you are seated. It takes a little getting used to, but will become second nature hooking it up blind, just like cinching down your helmet.

And installation on your helmet is simple and straight-forward.

OK folks, I have a new vendor on board with us now. they are willing to go 14% of retail. You do the math, 865-14%=the flat out best deal on these things, PERIOD! This will include shipping to one spot. That means all the units will come to me and then I redistribute to the individual. Can't agree with Mitch any more. I have put this off for far too long. I just test fit mine in the garage yesterday.....at first I HATED IT....it actuall hurt a little when cinched down REAL TIGHT...but I sat in the car for 15+ minutes warming the car up with the new cam and all, and by the end of the time...I didn't notice it at all....like Mitch...I dunno if I can get in the car with it on....I have the quick disconnects...hell, I can barely get my helmet on in the car WITHOUT the HANS...but it is worth it...I gotta think of the family...

The info I posted above appears to only be partially true.

The driver was wearing a HANS. What I'm hearing now is that the cause of death was heart failure due to the impact.

Again, I apologize for anything that was misleading.

It doesn't change the fact that we all should be wearing one ...

I use one and it is a PITA. Difficult to fasten the straps to the helmet even when standing out of the car. Difficult to remove the fasteners. Difficult to get into the car. VERY difficult to get out of the car with it attached (did I say it was hard to get out of the car w/it on?)

In the event of a fire, I'd be toast. I have to REMOVE the HANS to get out of the car. Quite possibly, necessity would be the mother of invention, and I'd find a quick way other than removal, but it isn't easy at all. I've tried to simulate emergency egress and I've become stuck and required help.

That said, I use it, but don't like it or find it user firendly. BTW, the written instructions SUCKED and I let them know about it. They asked, "Did you follow the CD? I said no, I followed your easy to read, difficult to follow written instruction.

Wow, I installed my anchors last week and I thought it was rather easy following their thorough instructions. I just set aside a half hour or so to make sure I did it right. I also thought it was easy to get the HANS on and off while attached to the helmet. I'm not sure about the entry/exit into the car but I'm assuming that if it was flaming HOT in the car I'd get out in a hurry (although I don't have a full cage yet).

I really don't see what is hard about taking it on and off.....we'll see! It only took about two seconds with the tethers attached to the helmet (I have the standards, not quick release)

Yes, I should explain.

Full cage. Getting out the right side is a non-starter as there are bars over there and I have a right side net (restraint net -- not window net) too. Additionally, there are two window nets on the left size. Traditional outer rectangle net and an additional triangular window net. Its called a J.B. cage net. The picture is misleading. It follows the upper and rear most sides of the driver window. It extends about half-way along each of those sides.

It is recommended to have two nets on the left side and a restraint on the right side.

Why two on the left? The outer rectangle to keep things out and the inner net to keep your head in the car.

As far as egress, after releasing the outer left side net, the inner triangular net restricts my quick movement. I'll have to incorporate releasing that one too in my emergency egress practice.

Yeah I knew Steve was tall as I've met him before at SP and I know he runs MARRS, but I wasn't thinking of the nets, and I guess didn't realize how big the difference is between my 5'8/9" and Steve's 6'+. Yes they are but I don't know if they will give you a break on those though.

My HANS device arrived today. Will be mounting the attachment hardware in the next day or so. It comes with instructions and appears to be a simple process. However, there was a thread with detailed procedures and good pictures posted on C.C. a while back. It's a good supplemental reference. Haven't searched for it , so I don't have the link handy at the moment.

Anyway, A huge thanks to Boyce for setting up this GP. Not only did I save $125, I also now have the most important piece of personal safety gear in time for the start of the season. Many sanctioning bodies are starting to require the use of Head and Neck Restraints. Be sure the one that you choose is SFI-certified. I/O Port now stocks the Head and Neck restraints from Safety Solutions and LFT Technologies. The Hutchens II and the R3 device are both SFI-certified. They both have some advantages over the popular HANS device (which we also can sell you). One advantage is that these devices do not require the safety harnesses to function properly as does the HANS device. This can make the Hutchens II and the R3 devices better in multiple impacts compared to the HANS device.

I've read a bit about both, but neither seemed to have the testing or approval that the HANS has. Your belts should be mounted correctly "to function properly" in the first place. Now, the multiple impact thing does sound good, but in my eyes, you are most concerned with the initial impact as hopefully the rest are less severe by A LOT.
