I'd like to get some weight of the nose of my car, so I'm actively looking for an OEM Camaro SS hood ('98 and up only, and MUST BE THE FACTORY HOOD, not aftermarket). I'm willing to drive a bit to get it. Would prefer it not be all cracked up. White would be GREAT, but beggars can't be choosers. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Please let me know if you have such a thing, or know of one in the Northeast/Mid-atlantic/Mid-west area. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Pick A Part in the Cleveland had one on Ebay for sale. They did not sell it but might have sold it locally. You may want to give them a call. If I had the money I would have bought it for my wife's NBM z28.

Dammnit Sam, the arms race is really heating up, eh?

So, what's the weight difference anyway?

I actually don't know the weight difference...... If anyone does I'd love to know. I'm just sure it's lighter, and that's all up front and up high.

I'm just trying to finish the job, and I'm tired of hearing how not done my car is from some folks. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Besides I want it faster, and it's stuff like this that's left (because my AC and stereo are NOT coming out).

$849 no shipping. Ouch. Wonder what a new one costs...... Anyone have a part number?

Yeah, that's just great. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) I join the class and you make the car even faster. Thanks.

Somebody sell Sam their (newly lead filled) stocker.

Just trying to give everyone who's NOT ME the (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/buttkick.gif) ing they deserve... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The thing is, I'm not the only one working on a car. I'd be content to not spend anymore money if I could. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I wasn't aware that SLP still had new hoods. I now have a plan B. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) But I'd still like to save some $$$ so if anyone sees one, can you let me know--please?

I don't think it is all that much lighter. I have the one from my busted up 02 factory SS hood and my aftermarket 96 hood is considerably lighter.

I need a black one to repair my 02' or to have someone repair it. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif)

SLP has new ones?

Yeah, I have about 100 more HP this time and 315's instead of 275's. Looking forward to it.

I checked GMpartsdirect last year and it was about $1200 brand new. Should be number 12369963. Make sure you get the hood grill like insert too or you will be protest bait. Please weigh the thing if you get one by holding it while standing on a scale, then weigh yourself on the same scale and subtract. Then of course weigh your stocker the same way when it comes off.

I'm guessing your going to save as much weight as what a camcorder, Chase cam system, and camera mounts weight. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/nutkick.gif)

Wait wait wait. Phil, you have an SS, Sam you have a Z28. Both of you back away from the keyboard and weigh your hoods! Or, lets just do it at the next big event we have. If I remember right it's just 4 bolts and a couple struts! Hell I'll even throw mine on a scale to get an LT1 baseline. Sam, is your hood steel?

I'd be willing, but I'd have to get Phil to agree. I'm not sure he'd want to take his hood off for me. After all, he already has the presumably lighter hood. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Besides, if I get Phil to do anything, it's getting me the stuff I need for the offset bushing pricing/production. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) *ahem*

My hood is steel.

Maybe this would solve the issue:

Can anyone with a stock Z28 laying aroiund weigh it? Can anyone with a SS hood laying around (Barney maybe since you seem to have one) weigh it? Then we'd have some comparison numbers at least without taking hoods off cars.

Im sure the factory ss hood is a good bit lighter then the z28. My neighbor has an ss and you can feel the difference just raising the hood. I'm curious to know the difference too.

FWIW, SLP changed the strut rods when they installed the glass hoods. They auctioned off a crate full of strut rods sometime last year, I think. I don't remember the details, but you can't judge the weight just by lifting the hood on the car.
