My supplier got a roll of CF fabric in, so I can do some layups that have not been possible for some time. I'm rolling prices back a bit for a short time. Orders placed with a 50% deposit by July 15 will get the reduced prices. Orders will be filled about 1 per week after the 15th.
4th gen Ttop replacement panel: for track/race cars - replaces all Ttop attachment hardware and weatherstripping. Fits flush to surface of windshield and targa. Weight is under 5#. $450 + $75 crating + UPS shipping. 4th gen Camaro hood: for track/race cars - 4 pins required. Weight is under 9#. $850 (LT1) or $950 (LS1) + crating + truck freight . I have molds for LT1 and LS1 cars. C5 Corvette hood: for track/race cars - 4 pins required. Weight is under 9#. $950 + crating + truck freight C5 Corvette headlight covers: for track/race cars - bond to hood, chassis, or bumper cover. Weight is a few oz. $180/pr + UPS shipping. Products delivered in CA subject to CA sales tax. It's very possible I could get big items to Mid Ohio in Sept, and then to other parts of the country via the buddy express, saving the crating and freight costs. No insurance this way, tho. Weight is under 5#. $450 + $75 crating + shipping 4th gen Camaro hood: Race only - 4 pins required. Weight is under 9#. $850 + crating + freight (Greyhound works well). Do you have a link with more info. about these, particularly the CF t-top panel? I'm interested but can't really visualize it or understand what makes this a "race only" part (not water tight?). Same question on the hood -- other than it being a pain to remove a pin-on hood, what makes it race-only? Thanks, RichJ |

Here's a couple pics of the Ttop replacement roof panel: The only obstacle to street use is that it has no provision for sealing to the window glass, so is not watertight.
The hood, being so light, is not a problem getting on/off, and improves access to the back of motor. The only pain is what to do with the hood when it's off the car - I usually plunk it down on the roof, but a little breeze will blow it around wherever it is. I would love to use the CF panel as an easy semi or permanent conversion to a hardtop. What would one need to do to make it watertight? Also, could you post some pics of what the area looks like after all the hardware is removed. I'd want to add some reinforcement to the roof ala Z06 when converting to a hardtop. |

Finally got a Ttop car with windows thru the shop so took some pics with the windows up and the CF roof panel in place. The window gap is about 3/8", would need to be sealed with weatherstripping attached to the panel. The panel fits flush to the body/windshield front/rear so could be RTV'd there. This panel has been on my race car for 4yrs so is a bit beat up: (IMG:http://members.cruzio.com/~ablaine/IMG_0682.JPG) (IMG:http://members.cruzio.com/~ablaine/IMG_0678.JPG) This is the newest panel I've made (gets delivered tomorrow) and I have extended the layup about 1/4" wider on the sides, with a little curl to add rigidity to the edge: (IMG:http://members.cruzio.com/~ablaine/IMG_0690.JPG) This is what that area looks like with the weatherstripping, molding, and center rib removed: (IMG:http://members.cruzio.com/~ablaine/IMG_0694.JPG) This post has been edited by Blainefab: Aug 27 2006, 09:20 AM |

Hey Alan....how about making a CF front air dam/splitter.... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) The prototype is going on this Subaru, needs splitter and undertray layup . The curve of the airdam 'just happens' to fit an Fbody ;-) This one is a carbon/kevlar hybrid, I'll look at using a more economical material for production. Alan, I'd be quite interested in an airdam / splitter solution as well. Please keep us updated. And thanks for providing these things for us F-Body crowd. There's definitely a niche here that needs filling! Jason |

Any info/pics on the hood? Is it LS1 Camaro compatible? My hood mold is for a LT1 Z28, If I had an order for a LS1 hood I would need to borrow a hood to make a mold from. I can probably find one locally to borrow but it would extend my delivery time. Blaine Fab now has a spotless LS1 Camaro hood in the shop, ready for the moldmaking process. My carbon supplier just got a fresh roll in, so I stocked up. Carbon prices are up a little bit from July, but I can hold my pricing as is for now. |

Has anyone successfully done the permanent weatherstripping approach on the t-top cover? It looks in the picture like maybe the panel doesn't extend outward to the side over the glass far enough to have a good area to bond the weatherstripping? |

Rich - I'm not aware of anyone putting weatherseal on a panel, yet. The OEM weatherseal is mostly on the inside, and attached to the lower inside of the roof/Ttop, so I think it could be done nicely with some ingenuity to get it aligned properly to seal to the window glass and RTV to seal to the door suround moulding. I'm doing the the lip extension on all future layups, it visually finishes off the edge better, and acts as a drip rail. The lip extension widens the panels by about 1/4" on each side compared to the pics I posted of the panel off my race car. |

Any chance youd offer a 3rd gen CF hood? I know its been discussed on thirdgen.org quite a few times and a few people were looking for a source, but im not sure how many of those folks would want pin-on version.
If the price was comparable to your other offerings it would definately be on my wishlist but it wouldnt be until after the new engine and tranny are paid for. It would be nice to know that theirs a definate source though. Id be interested in either a stock "flat" 3rd gen camaro version, or a carbon fiber version of the 82-84 z28 hood. Let me know and i'll keep it in mind. |

That would depend on demand - there is a substantial amount of expense in fabricating the mold for a hood, and that expense has to be spread over many finished product sales. My hunch is that the market for my (relatively expensive) product for the 3rd gen is limited. If I'm wrong, and I get a lot (at least 6) of requests for a 3rd gen version then I would certainly commit to making a mold up. This post has been edited by Blainefab: Nov 1 2006, 06:41 PM |

Just out of curiousity,
Whats the difference between carbon fiber and carbon kevlar, is there a strength/durability/weight difference? also is one more expensive than the other? |

Carbon is stiffer, Kevlar is tougher. Both are available in similar weights. Prices are market driven and vary quite a lot, with carbon more expensive than Kevlar. Both are many times more expensive than regular fiberglass. |
