Notes: Due to members here being more serious, I'm adding a few words about the how and why I did these springs. I got fed up. I felt it was time for a serious set of springs that did not require the purchase of coil-over and weight jacker hardware, that don't come loose at droop, that don't use what I feel are very high spring rates in the rear, and not slam the car to the ground.

The rates are derived from the rates I use on my coil-overs and weight jackers on my own car. They are proven both front and rear and what I felt was best for a set of lowering springs build to perform.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Strano Performance Parts Lowering Spring sets are officially on sale. A second shipment is due in here next week, we've found the ride heights and fitment to be just what was intended. So they will now be available to the general public.

The all important details:

Price: $269 shipped

Lowering amount: Approximately 1.25-1.3" (result vary from car to car, but all have been consistently in that range as was intended.

Spring rate: 550 lb/in. linear rate front. 100/150 lb/in. dual-stage rear. The dual stage is needed to keep the spring from coming loose in droop. the working rate is only 150 lbs/in. and it's very obvious the softer portion is immediately non-working when the car is on the ground.

Other details: I did all the specification work on these springs. The rates, the amount of lowering are all mine. These are NOT just rebranded springs. I don't have spring equipment, so I can't make them. The company building these for me is Vogtland.
Vogtland has pretty much taken over the market in some big racing series which tells you the springs are not crap.

My springs use Vogtland's proprietary VVS alloy which is 35% lighter than the normal spring steel. A set of Strano Peformance Parts springs boxed is 28 pounds. A set of anything else, Hotchkis, Eibach, etc.... is around 40-44 pounds depending on the actual spring set.

And here are some comments gather from the testers so far:

"I wanted to chime in about the drag racing capability.
I ran a personal best today with strano springs and koni SA's.
12.1 @ 118, 1.91 60'. "

"Stance looks perfect.
Ride is firm.
Turns great.
Springs = great product."

"The ride height data:
Before with LCA brackets, UMI APHR, 275/35 18 front 295/35 18 rear, stock
springs and struts/shocks, stock control arms.
LF: 27 1/2
LR: 28 5/8
RF: 27 1/2
RR: 28 1/2

After:
LF: 26 5/16
LR: 27 1/4
RF: 26 5/16
RR: 27 1/8

Total drop so far:
F: 1 3/16
R: 1 3/8
The springs stay put at full droop too."

"Got the Konis and springs on the car, Sam you have mail! I am very happy with the ride height / handling of the car so far. Thanks for the help Sam!"

So they will not be available to the general public.

I assume that's not exactly what you meant to say (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The light alloy is a nice bonus. This sounds like exactly what the market has needed for a long time. I hope you are getting enough orders to keep them in production long-term.

Hey Sam, interested in a Strano Springs/revalved shocks package soon and was wondering with the 1.25-1.3" drop if LCA relocation brackets are needed?

thanks

Not necessarily..... Many cars lowered without them. If wheel-hop is a problem we can deal with that. We sell them, but I don't feel (ok I know) that not all cars need them. Most don't IMO.

Springs are physically here. We packed and shipped many sets yesterday, and have gotten dug out of the backorder hole. That means we're free to pack some for you. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

As usual, I'm willing to answer any questions you have about the product and/or compatible parts. Springs are much like my bars in that I did the spec, they are based off of my car and my results. And weight was a factor. Remember we are talking about springs that are about 25 pounds for a full set vs. roughly 40.......

Rates that are known, lighter material, reasonable ride heights.... I tried to make the best part I could.

I've got Sams springs on my car (along w/ Koni SAs, 35mm front bar, 21mm rear bar, and SFCs). After running on old worn out de carbons for the past three autocross seasons, I am very pleased with the new set up. I ran the car at a non-SCCA autocross at 411 speedway (small, paved oval with an infield section) and the car was very well balanced. I have some pictures of the car in action if anyone wants to see them, and if Sam doesn't have a problem with it.

I don't have any static shots to show off the new stance since my camera quit working, but hopefully you can get a feel for it from the pictures I do have.

They are white as I remember. I believe Sam picked white so you could tell them from all the grey/blue/black/red springs that are already out there. That way it will be easier for someone to go "I just bought this car, it's lowered and has white springs on it, any idea what they are?" and we can help them.

It's a ferrous alloy that's a bit lighter than most spring steel (as I understand it). I'll let Sam fill in any deeper details than that.

Kevin is correct they are white. There shouldn't be any confusing these with any other springs that are out there especially if you look carefully at the spelling. Sorry Sam I couldn't resist. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Shcoks are a-ok. Axle is unsprung, so really the springs aren't a factor either way because of it. But I just did a set on a car for GMHTP magazine and it will in the future have an S60 in it, I think it'd be fine (other than dragging that much unsprung weight around in general).

Just thought I would bring this back to the top and give a quick review on my impression of the Strano springs. I swaped out my Eibach Pro kit springs for Strano springs and also went from a stock 19mm rear bar to a Strano hollow 22mm bar. You can see the rest of my mods in my signature and I run 315/35 17 V710's for my race tires.

I've run one autocross and one track event at Sebring on the new setup so far. The old setup would tend to understeer when pushed to the limit but I'm happy to say that now the car feels quite neutral with a hint of on throttle over steer. I had to get used to it but now in the tighter turns I can use the throttle to induce a little rotation and it's just a blast. I always had trouble with the "safety pen", turn 7, at Sebring and once I got the hang of the new setup I could rotate the car and my exit speeds were much better. I'm heading back this weekend so hopefully I can get some lap times for comparison to my old ones.

Thanks for the help and a great product Sam. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Finally got mine installed. Along with Koni SA shocks. Massive difference, feels like a whole new animal! Can't wait for the next auto-x event. +1 for these springs!

Edit: After a couple days on this setup, i'm a believer. The car reacts and handles like never before. It feels awesome!
