Hey Misty ... I am considering this event. But it's awfully close to my anniversary. So, I will have to wait and see ...

When is the drop dead date for entry?

Mitch,

PM sent. Let me know if you do not receive it.

Martin says to tell you that he and I spent our anniversary at the track with you guys for the last two years...and I liked it. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/burnout.gif)

err, um, I really have issues with typing sentences exactly as how I form them in my brain.

actually get my car back together in time before then though.

changing spring rates, brake pads, rotors, control arm bushings, hubs, fan setup, driveshaft, door bars (?), etc. straight forward stuff

are you guys doing both days?

I usually only run motorsports club one day. Might do Saturday only, unless there is a reason to stick around. Its close enough I can pull in early enough in the morning and leave for home that evening and still having the weekend for other stuff.

Misty and Mitch,

I have the ORR car garaged for the winter but this caught my eye. I would be a total newbie to this but it sounds fun and educational. You think the ORR car would do OK at this? Do A4's run alright there? is there parking for a motor coach and trailer?

Andy, I've seen auto run there before. I'm sure you have a monster cooler on it, don't you?

And folks park coaches there all the time.

Misty ... what about garage spaces?

Ok,

Looked at the Tech sheet and that is not a problem and I am sitting here thinking how long it is till Big Bend in April. I haven't torn the car down for the winter yet so that is not a problem; as a matter of fact, it is sitting just like it was when we came back from the Texas Mile.

Yeah Mitch, tranny/ps cooler and AAM cover on the rear diff. Man oh man, I am sorely tempted.

Could you guys help me sort out the suspension a little? I have always thought it needed to be tuned up a little.
Koni DA's at all 4, double adjustable panhard, Strano front bar, Hotchkis springs on Goodrich KD's.

What about exhausts? Mine are really freaking loud and my ground clearance is scant.

Man oh man, tires and pads are good and they are going to be replaced before the first ORR so I might as well get some good wear on them......

I am sitting here talking myself into this. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/gr_driving3.gif)

Andy, you definately need to be there. Loud exhuast and low ground clearance aren't a problem (just don't go off (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ). I will be there, working one day, driving the other.

Morgan: you need to be there too!

Normal discount is 10% for 10 or more entries. Garages are $20. Let me see what I can talk Rusty and Canole into. I'll get back to you all tomorrow.

BTW, you all can camp at the track, if you want. They charge $10 at the gate Friday night and the gates are locked at 10pm, so it's affordable, available, and reasonably secure.

Guy,

You need to bring your beast out to play, baby. And maybe mine'll start this time so I can try to chase you around for a bit. I'm liking the new suspension. It's just unfortunate that I forgot how to drive. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif)

Damn, I'll be in Houston for 2hrs that Sunday. Mebbe they'll cancel my departing flight. I wonder what a cab ride to TWS would cost?

The last time I drove (er, rode) TWS, it was also December, and wet - that was a long, long time ago. The winner of my race was a 16yr old kid named Freddie Spencer ;-)

Andy, if you get a track alignment for this event, make sure to save the 'before' printout so you can get it back to where it was for ORR.

Sure does. My paperwork is sent. I have room in the trailer if anyone wants the parts I have listed in the Classifieds and PAy It Forward.

Good news is the weather for Bryan shows 70 and sunny Saturday.

Big question! When we go to the ORR events the beer of choice is Keystone. Discerning palates? not hardly! I think it is all about quantity vs. investment. Is this the case at TWS as well? We will be staying onsite in the coach so beverages are a requirement.

AB! That is SO very cool!
The last time I rode there, Kevin Schwantz won every class on an FJ600.

When the Japanese owned the track they ripped out all 48 hookups, but if you park near a garage and have an extension cord, you're in business. How late do you think you'll be?

Sorry, guys. I talked to Rusty about a discount and he says the normal deal stands: 10 people, 10% off. Garages are $20.

If you all get garages, I can arrange it so everyone can park together, at least. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dunno.gif)

Does Rusty know exactly who we are? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I'd like to get a the garage farthest from the lounge. I can park my trailer with all my stuff across from my garage stall.

That would be close enough for Andy to park his rolling Taj Mahal.

We need to put some pressure on Kevin to make an official FRRAX showing.

Since this is something totally new to me, I will defer to those with more knowledge and go with the flow. The coach has a generator and some really long extension cords so I can adapt. If I need to get a garage that is fine.

Is anyone else staying at the track?

I was tempted, really tempted. Tempted enough that I was just checking ticket prices. I didn't find anything that fit my budget (cheap) and schedule. I'm out of vacation, so I don't have time to drive. A road trip south sounds really nice this time of year (it's 13 degrees and windy and spitting snow here in Ohio right now). If I could have come up with a $129 round trip special, I was on my way (assuming I my wife says/said I can go out and play).

When's the next one?

Misty,

We will be leaving Ft Worth Friday between 5 and 6pm. With Friday afternoon traffic, I can't tell ya how long it will take to escape the Metroplex. Maybe 11pm? I could update my ETA enroute via cell phone if that would help.

I will kick some $$$ in for the ticket and pick you up at DFW if that is what it takes. Weather is clear and 70 Saturday, 68 and partly cloudy Sunday. Check Southwest.com.

Andy, that's a generous offer, but I'm still seeing $183 to get there (at midnight on Friday night) and $133 to get back (leaving at 3:50 PM on Sunday).

Andy, if you get a track alignment for this event, make sure to save the 'before' printout so you can get it back to where it was for ORR.

Alan,

I am treating this as a Test and Tune for Big Bend and willl leave the alignment as is. I am really hoping to get some help on setting the shocks, etc.

Is anyone else staying at the track?

I normally do, however my trailer has no heat.

Changing brake pads today and #9 should be ready to go.

Edit:
I now see the lows in the 60s ... might stay at the track after all ...

Mitch,

You have 120 AC in your trailer? I have one of those oil radiators in the bus you can borrow to knock the chill off.

New Hubs, rotors, & pads are on along with new front spring rates. Serviced the Lower control arms (checked caster bushings), elongated caster & camber slots a bit more, removed drivers side door bar, and fixed vibrating fan issue with cheap Zirgo junk. need to flush brake fluid, and may R&R plugs and wires. Still need to set the alignment as well as find replacement castelated nuts for the upper ball joints (don't ask). Also need to mount some tires on another set of rims. Hopefully I'll be able to get it all together if I can find the time all hell doesn't break lose at work.

Morgan ... I fully expect you to be there. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I have room for an air mattress in my trailer.

Andy, I do have AC outlets in the trailer, but no vent. So, I'm a little hesitant to build any kind of fire inside the trailer.

I'll just bring my SPARCO footie PJs ....

Well, hell ... Life has gotten in the way.

My mom's house finally sold and we have submitted a contract on a replacement that is closer. The offer was accepted yesterday.

Because it's a cash deal and at our request, we have an accelerated closing schedule ... December 20!

I have to arrange for and get wood consuming reports and TREC reports done 5 days before the closing. That leaves this weekend for that ...

So, it appears I get to chase a bureaucracy around this weekend instead of Andy ...

Oh well ... maybe next time.

Andy, I need to arrange to get with you sometime and snag the wheels and driveshaft.

as posted before, i cant make it. i tore down the LT1 in my CMC car a few weeks back to put new rod/main bearings in along w/ all new gaskets to help stop the 1-2 qt oil leak per weekend i've had.
got the motor and drivetrain re-installed last week and fired it up saturday. after a major issue that had me scratching my head and about to tear down the motor again, i realized i had a parts supplier issue. wrong parts given as the correct parts will cause a major issue. i finally got it resolved today just to have the IAC motor die. so that will not be fixed till tomorrow.
i have no harness's, strike 2.
the roof needs a place repaired from wind damage i've been neglecting for a month or so. so w/ this being the last available weekend till after new years, then the AI/CMC banquet on Jan 13th, and the 2007 season starting Feb 2/3 2007, i'm just about out of time.

Misty, i really wish i could be there and was going to just drive my 98Z down to help you out, but i just cant do it. we will work something out soon enough. sorry.

well, I may be a little closer to making it.
Finally got the car on the ground. Ran out of time to set the ride height and completely redoing the alignment. I *might* have one free evening between now and saturday morning to get that done, but I also need to have a set of tires mounted up. Its gonna be tight but I'm still pushing to make it.

I am still planning on making it and would like to meet up with as many FRRAX people as possible. Look for the white B4C with the FRRAX and Blaine Fab stickers on it.

Still got lots to do so I better get crackin'

Glenn,

One of the Instructors walked up to me first thing and asked for me by name -- He had on an SVT Cobra T shirt and said he knew you and Mitch. Being the gracious soul that I am I did not hold that against him but I did eye him with some suspicion since he freely admitted it. Sorta squinted at him like Clint Eastwood in Hang 'Em High.

Met y5e06 ( Morgan) and he was working hard getting his CMC car sorted. Met Stangkiller. I also hooked back up with GuySS for the first time since Big Bend. He drove up for just a few hours in a sweet little '40 Chevy.

As far as my experience? I had a mind bending time... That is really the only way I can describe it. It was humbling and frustrating at first but by the end of the day Sunday I was throwing the car around the curvy parts alot better. Becky Laughlin was my instructor both days and she was a patient soul - God bless her. She did take me on a ride in her Porsche that was just astounding.

I have never been anywhere close to this kind of experience before and there was a pretty steep learning curve. Even though the ORR car is not set up at all for this, it did pretty well. Tranny (A4) ran hot even with a cooler because there was just not enough air getting to it. The tune was all wrong since I have the converter locking up and stayin locked at 90mph plus. The extra weight in the car killed me -- and my arms. The alignment was not good for this and I could go on and on.

Am I going to make any changes to the car? No, it is a specific purpose car and it does well at what it is built for. Did I learn anything? Most definitely!

I have some videos and pics I will post later.

Ah, Becky in her purple Porsche. She's a bank VP or something. You'd never, ever guess by looking at her she is a speed freak and damned good at it.

Glad you had a great experience and I certainly wish I could have been there.

The home inspectors were canceled for Saturday as I had to chase down a Power of Attorney and then rescheduled the INspectors for Sunday (yesterday).

Trust me ... you had a LOT more fun than I did.

How many cars were there?

That was me Andy, sorry I didn't get back around to visit with you some more but after the "Dirty Harry" squint I figured you were busy lol. Glad to hear you made the most out of the weekend, I had to bail after Saturday but really enjoyed that track time and the weather we had.

Mike,

Everyone was busy. I would be chatting with someone and just start getting into it when they would call my group to the grid. Not a lot of time for visiting.

The weather WAS extraordinary for mid-December. T shirts were perfect for the temps.

Me too Mitch-- especially if you would have stayed over in your trailer. There was ONE other group of younger folks who set up tents in one of the garages -- other than that it was just us. We had a blast in the evenings wit the entire place to ouselves.

Sunday was the best -- most people had left and there were very few cars running in the different groups. I asked Morgan to take the ORR car out for a session but he was just too darned busy tweaking his setup. Had you or Glenn been there I would have gladly let you guys thrash it for awhile.

Hahha, I like that second pic. That is Ryan Kyle in the Tacoma pickup that you passed on the front straight. Bone stock 4 cyl 5 spd 2wd Tacoma...with 315 Victoracers mounted on 17x11 Cobra wheels. He does surpisingly well in it.

Well, I'm glad I pulled it together and made it out Sunday. With issues I was working out I didn't get one full speed session in until after lunch. Felt good knocking the dust off.
The weather last weekend was absolutely gorgeous. I usually hate the drive home after a long day but even that was super. I was up and out of the house by 5am so when I finally got home after screwing with the car all day at the track I was beat.
It was good to meet AndyJ & Guy as it is always nice to put a name and face together. Too bad everyone is so spread out across the as a FRRAX track day would be a ball.

Oh, even though it isn't listed on the website there is another Motorsport Club weekend 20-21 January (good tune up for 1st '07 CMC weekend?)
