Forza Motorsport Showdown Coming to SPEED in February

SPEED has joined forces with Microsoft Game Studios in presenting a live-action mini-series based on Xbox 360’s new Forza Motorsport 2 video game.

Forza Motorsport Showdown, produced by Bud Brutsman of the popular SPEED reality show, Payback, is set to air February 2007. The four-episode series will be hosted by Lee Reherman, best known as ‘Hawk’ on hit television show, American Gladiator.

Each episode rigors a diverse group of competitors through a roster of competitive motorsports disciplines – drag racing, road racing, autocross and drifting – in a $100,000 winner-take-all format. Forza Motorsport Showdown is designed to be the ultimate test of high-performance driving and mechanical skills.

“These are real people, real crews and real cars battling it out for a very significant cash prize,” said Robert Ecker, VP of Programming for SPEED. “It’s a very dynamic production encompassing an incredible amount of drama and suspense. Each team and personality has to excel in every one of these racing categories to be competitive; there’s not much room for error.”

Forza Motorsport 2 is Microsoft Game Studios’ sequel presentation to its award-winning Forza Motorsport title, which debuted in 2003. This offering is expected to set new standards for high-definition gaming, customization, driving, physical and damage simulation. In addition, Forza Motorsport 2 allows gamers to collect more than 300 personalized racers and pursue worldwide competitions through its revolutionary Xbox Live gaming community.

I noticed the promos a month or so ago when I was programming my new dish dvr.
Saw the post here, checked it and it was there.
Worth watching TV.
Lou sure was nervous with that 17 yr. old kid in his car.
He's on the radio to Lou "The Check Engine Light is on" while the 350z is on his butt.

The girl has her Paris face on.
Guy from Georgia's southern accent is a little much.
Was sorry to see the driver/car match ups as they were.
They put American bubbas in American iron and Asians in Asian cars.
Woulda been more interesting to mix that up a bit.
Dorky host with his sunglasses down on his nose (rides around in a 5th gen show car).
Someone never got the memo that Oakleys are out!
"Camaro Killer" mopar blows a drive shaft nearly taking the drivers right arm off (incar vid is great!).
At least it's not like Pinks with all mudstains.

I wish I could have been a fly on the wall to see the look on Lou's face when the person that was picked for him could only muster a 13.3 in a new Vette while the Mustang pulled a 12.9. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rant2.gif) Now granted the Mustang was modified but I don't think that elevation was an issue.

......he did, however, make amends in the road course to win them the President's suite.

** EDIT ** The kid actually ran a 13.17

Yeah, the only one that seemed to be able to drive at the drag strip was the girl who had never drag raced before. Of course, Atlanta Dragway is not the fastest track around. I was always several tenths slower there than at the other dragstrip south of Atlanta.

As for the kid making amends on the roadcourse, not really. He BARELY held of the drifter, who was in a mostly stock 350Z. If they had reversed cars you could tell the other guy would have left him in the dust easily, so really it was more the car overcoming the driver's shortcomings in that case.

I have my DVR set to record 'new' episodes, and it shows the next one is Wednesday (2/28) at 10pm CST. I believe this episode will show the autocross and drift portions of the event.

If any of you read this soon, they're re-running (I assume) the first episode right now at 9pm CST, and again tomorrow morning (Sunday 2/24) @ 3am CST.

Pretty decent show so far, and I too wanted to see Lou's reactions more (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Yea, if the drifter were in the vette, he woulda smoked the kid. And Im kinda disappointed in Lou, all he does is whine about what the kid is going to do to his car - he needs to stop 'reminding' the kid how young and inexperienced he is and start giving him some useful advice. He sounds like an a**.

Ok, so you would've pumped up the ego of a kid who doesn't even have experience driving a stick so he'd have more confidence in his (non) ability while driving your brand new C6? Yeah, that'd really happen.

Gushi seems to like low-probability passes. Him driving through the grass was absolutely insane.

Hmmm... I guess to me 'giving useful advice' and 'pumping someones ego' are different things altogether, but thats just me. Every single interaction they showed between Lou and that kid had Lou either ripping on him, belittling him, or threatening him. Sorry if I offended anyone by giving an opinion about Lou, perhaps they only included those scenes to make good TV, but I stand by what I said.

Maybe I came off a little too "keyboard warrior" with that post.

My comments weren't just because it's LG, but you've got a 17 yr old kid, in a brand new C6, going for a chance to win $100,000. I'm sure they put in all the parts that look good for TV, but during the "race" Lou just kept telling him to be calm, hit his apexes, and bring the car home in one piece. I can only guess he was trying to keep the kid from getting spooked with Gushi taking up space in his mirrors the whole time and trying to rattle him.

I didn't think Forza was extremely bad..... a bit cheesy, but having Lou and Louis on it make it worth watching.

Yeah, it makes the series a lot more interesting watching someone from back home trying to make a run at it.

I think that Lou's whole point with that kid is to try and make certain that he just finishes ~ to get points

.......as, like most of us, he's just a competitive person trying to use the best what has been handed to him.

I don't know. That move looked pretty intentional to me, sort of an act of desperation. I guess it's "anything goes" in the wheel to wheel driving portions??

What's the deal with these upgrades ?

Both 300Z's got brakes and turbos
The mustang got suspension and brakes
I don't remember exactly what the older cars received, but I believe they got tires and brakes.

........and the Vette gets an exhaust, hood and skirts

Seems a little biased to make for a better show to me (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) ~ I mean, on a stock Vette, wouldn't you want better breaks and possibly shocks first ?
......as it appears that they pretty much have more HP than that kid wants to use already anyway.

What's it matter if the kid can't use them? For being some stock car driver, this kid doesn't look like he has crap for experience. Seriously, who here couldn't light the tires on a 350rwhp 'vette? Those LG-style donuts used to cost me a lot of dough in tires even with a 200rwhp Trans Am right after high school.

damn it was entertaining watchin them try to drift. did one of the year one cars go backwards on the course just to screw around?

makes me wounder that i'd probably look like that trying to drift as well... lol
I think LG driver needs to get some humility back and become a sponge for advice... maybe the whole camera thing is going to his head... who knows.

I don't know if it's just the camera...

The kid's website sounds like he's going to run for office some day, not try to drive a race car: http://www.jacemeier.com/

I think those were LG hood, fender skirts, and splitter.

Wow, talk about miising the blatantly obvious ....... I guess that makes a lot more sense now

"What's it matter if the kid can't use them? For being some stock car driver, this kid doesn't look like he has crap for experience. Seriously, who here couldn't light the tires on a 350rwhp 'vette? Those LG-style donuts used to cost me a lot of dough in tires even with a 200rwhp Trans Am right after high school."

I don't know about you but IMPO I would upgrade the shocks, brakes and tires 1st with a rookie

As for my comment about him making amends, my point might not have come across as I intended, it was more to the fact that he won ~ barely but he did win. And he did pass the 350Z back after that guy made a straight away out of that one area.
......I do, however, think that 350Z (now with turbo) is going to put a "whip'en" on LG's guy on the road course ~ unless he was holding back to make the show more interesting

Nah, good equipment (mainly the tires) can mask a lot of bad habits. I can't believe that the kid is driving hard enough that the stock 'vette equipment can't keep up. I know the car isn't god-like, but if a car with 100 less rwhp can keep up, you aren't driving fast enough to need those parts. The loose nut behind the wheel needs more work.

Is the C6 a Z51?
I know Lou is selling parts here but it's a shame there isn't another driver hanging up on that LG mods peg board display.

If we were talking about someone learning for the purpose of racing, I could see your point. But keep in mind that we're talking about a TV show (and no real learning curve) ~ one set of 1/4 mile runs, one set of drift runs, 2 sets of road course runs and I think 2 sets of AX runs.....that's it, you win or lose and you're done. What does masking bad habits matter in this case, he'll probably never drive a Vette again.

It appears to me that he doesn't need anymore HP ~ so why not add some things that might help his confidence with the car (ie brake fade, body roll, grip).

Let me put it this way, if you had a chance to be on TV to win $15,000 (or whatever the amount) if you came in 1st place, would you
1) want a stock car and possibly learn the limits of the car
or
2) get that same car modified and possibly test your limits
.......I know where I'd put my money.

I've been on the receiving end of an LG discussion.

I gotta agree.

Lou seems to be a little hard on the guy....but as a 17 year old kid, you should be trying to soak up as much as you can.....his attitude S.U.C.K.S. And then, in steps the "enabler" dad...."My son has always been supremely confident...." If I was there and the kids father, instead of making excuses for the kid, I would take him behind the shop and give him a lesson in life.... IF the drifter gets another 50hp out of that turbo AND the girl gets a couple gallons of ass, Napoleon Dynamite will get is ass handed to him on the road course.

JMHO ...

His mad skilz just don't impress me much.

Listening to Louis' calm voice cracks me up. I recall that same radio voice when an unnamed driver was being checked out in Lou's Trans AM car. While not transmitting, Louis voice became significantly more "concerned" when chatting with his dad and crew.

No kidding... this is a great time for the kid to learn, but instead he has acted like he knew it all already and the Dad isn't helping the situation.

I think the kid gets it handed to him on the road course next time.

Granted that I am probably the youngest person on this forum, I would have to say that kid has a pretty crappy attitude towards learning especially from someone with that much experience. However Lou seemed a little overly mean but I guess it's all good now.

I thought Ken Gushi was taking the oval course in style with the drifting... and I was pretty shocked to see that the girl had an identical twin that also participates in motorsports stuff (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Just watched the final episode of this.....looks like the big, fat, LGM aluminum radiator killed the kid's chance at $100,000. Too bad, because that car was a nice ride! I wonder how much acutal choice they had on what to install on the cars come upgrade time.....

Lou was saying they had all this power now,and no tires to put it down with, and it showed on the drag race. I wonder if each team just brought a bunch of their own parts, most of what I saw LGM taking off the rack had big LGM stencils on it, and they just bolted it on as they gained points, and not much actual strategy went on. Or maybe the show made the Corvette stick to "stock" tires to try and slow it down and equalize the cars....(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dunno.gif)

What I found ironic is that Lou (and everyone else for that matter) lost to the only girl on the show.....and she drove a Ford (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Howdy,

I think it was because Team LG managed to "improve" the car enough to make it break down...

:-)

(ok, ok, cheap shot. But still... Why would you modify the car at all for that competition? Put the credits into tires & stickers and call it a day)

I'd also like to know what happened to the corvette. Seemed like a cooling issue... What failed?

I wonder if the Forza Motorsports xbox game has the cars breaking down all the time? :-)

I especially like how whatshername won mostly because nobody there was clued in enough to know which lap she was on.

Nice "race".

I'd bet the LG splitter blocks the air dam and they weren't allowed to do what they need to box the nose to the radiator in.

Imagine putting a splitter like that on one of our cars without turning it into a front breather with a ducted air box. I'll bet we'd overheat on lap two as well.

Finally a theory that makes sense! Problem is...why didn't Lou and crew know that and not put the splitter on unless the cooling issues could be addressed?

With the stock radiator my car overheated in 2 laps. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rant2.gif) Kinda ruined the whole weekend since I had to keep it under 3500 the whole time (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

The question that I would have is that the Corvette in stock form on day one ran 5 + laps (I think) on the road course and had only the check engine light come on, but no heating issues. Then, after adding some spoiler modifications that should have only helped the car's cooling, it can't make 3 laps without over heating.......something just doesn't add up.
