well is almost time to start the planning of Nationals 07 for me. a few of us Texas guys were already talking about the trip andsomeone mentioned having the F-body community help out if they could. last year Kevin Glaser saved my ass when on saturday durring qual i had an accesory bracket fail causing a loss of power stearing and no alt. i managed to finish qual and run the satuday race thanks to him getting a replacement bracket for me. w/out his help, i have no doubt my Nationals trip would have not been as sucessful.

point is, i think we should rally the f-body community to show up @ Nationals and have an f-body suport crew.

thoughts?

I will be there but I might not be running. I'm willing to help anyone out and would accept help for anyone that might offer it... More f-body guys would be great in any capacity.

Your butt seemed to do just fine with your driving, you didn't need me. Having power steering was nice, but you seemed to muscle that thing around just fine without it. Not that I mind helping out and I'll gladly come back.

Now, Mitch's butt was nearly the cats meow....or something like that. Either way, Mitch's was in more danger than yours Glenn.

Of course I could introduce you to Midnight..... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Mitch, shall I plan on picking you up in Indiana again?

Team spirit I like it!

Mid OH is realatively close, so I might as well take advantage of that. I'm asking for the time off work to go to Nationals to be a spectator, if nothing else, just to see what it is about. I'm new to Nasa and racing in general. I plan to go to a few NASA HPDE's this year and possibly time trial.

I'll try and find the F-body guys so I can put some names with the faces, see what I can learn, and help out where I can.

We usually all pm and swap cell phone numbers before we leave for the track. Then we're all easy to find.

My wife and I plan to be there. We're having the car shipped, so I'm not sure where we'll be or any of the logistics at this point. But she's easy to find, as there aren't a whole lot of chicks wearing driving suits.

I'll be there to crew for my MW region AI/CMC buddies but if nothings broken there I can always spin a wrench.

If I make the comp school at the first event, I might go drive (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif)

this sounds great guys. i would also like to see if you guys could rally suport w/ your local F-body clubs too. i'll be hitting up the other f-body sites in the comming weeks but the best help is from those who know the sport. obviously we will get everyone we can in under the crew slots. i think this year will be big.

As Jason already said, we're planning on being there. Heck, I've already got a hotel room. I know camping there is better but I just don't see how we can do it as we're planning on flying in and shipping the car. I often camp at Buttonwillow and it really IS great to be at the track all weekend.

Last year I kicked myself for months for not going. Not going to miss it again. If anything happens, I can't imagine not at least being there in person, minus car or what.

last year i slept at the track from the day we arrived on Monday till the following Sunday. Sunday night my primary sponsor (Moonlite Printing and Graphics - thanks Kevin!) got me a room @ a B&B. that was nice.

i know this is early for planning this type of stuff, but its better than waiting around tillthe last minute.

Chris and I will be sharing a garage. As Jason says, we will not be hard to find! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Bro-in-law pit crew will be there to support CMC #37. He wants to drive out with the car the crazy nut - I'll fly out and drive back with him. If all goes as planned I'll be attending the school Monday-Tues.

I look forward to meeting many of you I have not already met in person!

In a brief moment of day dreaming I've considered flying up for the days of qual & champ races to watch and help any ailing CMC car or two. Eventually I'll look into flights but at the moment its nothing more than "What If" and "that would be fun!".

Ole #9 might just be there ... but I won't be the pilot.

After re-doing the spring rates and shock valving, I can now almost keep up with you, Jeff.

guys/gals, i'm bumping this back up top. still looking to see who may be showing up to watch, lend a hand, or be the perfect pit rat. i get 4 crew pass's and so far i think all mine are accounted for w/ 1 crew person and sponsors. i'll do what i can to get you on a list though.
the event is about 6 weeks away. so time is clicking down. Kevin Glaser bailed my ass out last year, so i was lucky to have him there.

Oh hell I'll be there. I'm only an hour away. If anyone needs a hand, lemme know. I may not be much of a wrench, but I learned how to use a hammer from Kevin... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/gr_judge.gif)

I might very well be available during weekdays. If you need help and can't get ahold of me here and don't have my cell... just bug Kevin. He knows how to get ahold of me (if I'm not passed out asleep... I love being a student!).

You haven't met this one, you can try to reason with him if you'd like. You might ask Mitch for advice first, it could save you a lot of effort.

there should be a list made here of those from this site who are going and if they have any crew spots open. i'll know more on the day i leave to Mid Ohio and we don't turn in those names to the gate till we arrive. so there is plenty of time to get this resolved.

Can you "locals" compile a list of autoparts stores and salvage yards in the track's area so that in the event of a need, there won't be a thrash to find someone.

Last year Kevin and company were God-sends ....

Thank Glenn's Sprint wireless internet connection, my Sprint cell phone and my GPS. Just tell Glenn to bring the laptop and we'll be just fine.

No god-send here, all I did was drive the parts chase car. My job was easy, really easy (though finding a belt was starting to become real fun after a while). Keeping Glenn calm was the tough part, and Mitch did that quite well.

Besides, I've got new GPS toys for my laptop for this year..... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif)

I brought a friend's GPS unit with me last year and it was invaluable when I had to make a couple of parts store runs. I'll bring it again with me this year (knocking on wood that I won't need it).

Speaking of Nationals - who is going to be doing the Mid Ohio test day on Wednesday?

I have a Magellan, that's what ran me down 150+ miles of back roads through KY and TN. I recently bought the Delorme Street Atlas with the USB GPS attachment. I had the software and used it with my Magellan, all tied into my laptop. The USB GPS elminates most of the wires and clutter.

I could stop by in the evenings on my way home to check if anyone needs help as well. (I drive past the track every day) Just make sure I can get in. My cell phone also has a web browser, GPS add-on and if all else fails my house is just 15 minutes away. Depending on what is happening in my life (the GTI still not being fixed being one reason) I can help out on the weekend too.

EDIT, I also have my laptop with me and can access the web via my phone as well.

my work requires the use of Streets and Trips and Street Atlas both. i use a USB GPS rx that came w/ the streets and trips program.
street atlas is easier to use.
i also have a dash mounted Garmin 5 that sits and never gets turned on these days. i use the PC based (laptop) stuff almost every day. i never leave home on a long trip w/ out it no matter how many times i've made the trip.
most surprising feature - resturant finder! set the thing to look for a set few resturants you pick (or any available) and set the radius around your current location (determined by GPS) and set the refresh time. it continuosly looks for places to eat, or sleep, or get gas, rest stops, police stations, parts stores. whatever!

Chris, go to their website Mid Ohio School and click on driving courses - you can sign up for the test day online or give them a call. August 17th a lot of their rates go up.

Well, Im registered. I'll have the new motor in the car just in time. That is, just in time to get my butt handed to me in TTB since it will be the first event ive driven in about a YEAR now. Anyway, if TT drivers can have "pit" people I'll have a couple of spots open. How many people are camping? I doubt my wife lets me near a hotel after all the money I spent on the motor this year (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rant2.gif) Anyone renting paved parking - Im asking so we could organize a FRRAX 'area' its about $100 for a 10x40 spot for all 4 days

its still too farout for me to know who i will have to hold my crew spots for (Sponsors). as we get closer to leaving i'll know. we turnin our names once we check into registration.

Completely naive nationals newbie question: why do we need to see if there is room for Racerdad916 on someones crew list? Can't he just show up at the event?

If being on crew means you get to be closer to the action, then I understand. If being on my crew means if you do something naughty, and I get in trouble because of it, then I'm hesitant. This is my first nationals but I've run with NASA for years and don't want to tarnish my *ahem* reputation, if you get my drift.

Jason is my only crew at this point, let me know why and who should have my other three spots. Oh, and I accept payment in the form of Bud Lite. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

I'm sure he could, but a crew pass will get you on pit lane, etc.

Also, I'm not sure if NASA is charging for Nationals this year, but NASA Midwest is charging for Road America this weekend. $20/day if you don't have a crew pass. I've been trying to snag a bunch from buddies not using them because I'll have family coming. Granted, $40 for a weekend isn't huge, but it sucks when you invite people out then find out a couple weeks before that it could be $$$.

i'm sure Mid Ohio charged for admission for all those not on a Crew Pass. if i had to pay for extra crew pass'es, i would have that person pay me back. the crew pass is good for thrusday thru sunday.
as for someone getting me in trouble? that happens at Nationals, and they will have a hard time remembering why they got there ass kicked at Mid Ohio.

So being a crew member gets you on pit lane and saves you the price of admission? Otherwise anyone with a grandstand ticket can get into the pits etc? Im trying to see if I need to keep my crew passes if I just want my dad to be able to get to the grass pits- He wouldnt mind letting someone have his "crew" pass if he could still hang out with me (he wouldnt need to be on pit lane)

I had a media / photo pass that got me anywhere, including up to the corner worker's stations. I managed to snag a few neat pics:

Come on down, you're always welcome. I'll even feed the cat a little extra before you arrive, that way he won't be hungry..... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Damn... EVERYONE's gonna be here! I think I'm going to need a list of who I need to go meet as I go wandering around the pits. Heh. I just hope everyone doesn't need mechanical assistance!

I just PM'd everyone my phone number. That way, they can just call and we'll meet up at the event.

They'll only need mechanical assistance if they let you work on their cars..... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/nutkick.gif)

If being on my crew means if you do something naughty, and I get in trouble because of it, then I'm hesitant. This is my first nationals but I've run with NASA for years and don't want to tarnish my *ahem* reputation, if you get my drift.

We are all a well behave bunch of guys (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) at least that what I keep telling myself!

After meeting racerdad916 tonight, you won't have any trouble out of him. And, last year I don't think they could tell who was signed up with who. Maybe if you actually got taken to the principals office, but otherwise, it's not likely.
