I have a pair of used front Koni DAs and a pair of used Koni rear SAs for sale.

The fronts:
One shock is just fine, as far as I know. The other has the shaft twisted off. When I was putting the shock on, I was a tad zealous with my impact gun and twisted off the end. Doh!

I bought them used and never got a chance to run them.

The rears:
I've had these on the car for about a year and they are in fine working order.

All are rebuildable, according to Lee Grimes at Koni.

I would let all go for $300 plus any costs associated with shipping.

I would get the shock repaired myself, but have decided to go a different route ...

Mitch, money's tight in my budget right now and Randy and Jon keep on finding other places for me to spend my money, but I'm interested in the rear shocks if you're willing to split them up.

I doubt you'll ever get close enough in that Firehank to find out, now.

Not skeered, are you?

Mike, I want to try and sell them as a set ... who knows, they might work out for me in the end.

When I inquired through Lee Grimes at Koni, he indicated about $150.

That was a while ago, though.

To be honest ... SLP is offering 4 new DAs for under $600 ...

I would think they're just the fronts. I've been meaning to call them and find out.

There's a thread over at LS1.com about this SLP deals. Seems that KONI won't honor the warranty if you buy 'em from SLP at that clearance price.

It's all 4 shocks. I just sent them an email asking them if they are DAs or SAs.

Here's the link showing all 4 shocks:

Called SLP, and the gent I was talking to wasn't sure whether it was DA's or SA's. I asked if they were the same replacement P/N for 1 LEs, he wasn't sure...

I just e-mailed someone who just bought a set. Let's see what he says.

Nope. I emailed Alston Racing about some other things last night and their email address bounced back as invalid. Bad luck for me last night with email I guess.

Yeah, a good member at LS1.com gave me the low down that these shocks are are not off the shelf DA's, but ones SLP valved for 1 LE springs. This is what SLP told him over the phone. What the heck does mean, exactly? These shocks are adjustables, so why custom valve them?

I don't understand... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) still a good friggin' deal, though.

Even w/o the sale, they only go for $625 for a set of 4. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

cross-posted to LS1.com--AX/RR section too. Take it FWIW.

We had a long talk with Gordon @ Koni yesterday. I was going to buy up the SLP Koni's to get them off the market, and to stop the bleeding they are causing in price. I want to make you aware of why I'm not going to do that, and it's important.

Apparently, these shocks are pretty old. What Gordon @ Koni told me is they bought a ton of them when they first came out in '94, many never sold. SLP was direct with Koni then, but is no longer because they bought so many and never sold many. Here's the trouble. According to Koni, shocks that have been on the shelf that long are going to have seal problems, the seals dry out when the shocks lay on their side for long periods of time. They are already had 4 or 5 folks wanting warranty on shocks with failed seals. Now, DA's have no warranty anyway, but if there is a problem with a new or nearly new one that is fresh we as dealers have some pull in getting them exchanged. However fresh the shocks are in terms of use, sitting can hurt the seals. Gordon expects in about 2 months of use to start seeing more and more seal problems on the shock.

They (Koni) and other vendors can't do anything about the price since SLP is not direct. And it's a good deal, at least on the surface, but as it was put to me "buyer beware" because apparently the shocks are New old stock

The Bass Brothers did the same thing with silver several years ago. Bought up a bunch of silver and silver futures, cornered the market and drove the price up.

Curious ... were you gonna sell those discounted Konis (the bad ones), cut a deal with Koni to have them re-sealed or just throw them away?

I don't think Sam was going to do any of those things you mentiened. By reading his post, it seemed like he was going to buy up the shocks at the low price and then sell them for a higher price {no problem with that, that's what makes capitalism work}. When he found out why the shocks were so cheap, that's when he decided not to buy the shocks. Thats the way I read it anyway.

I agree ... there is noting illegal with cornering the market and setting the price.

That's how I read it too.

Too bad - it would have also helped Mitch out, by raising the market value. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

True, but it's not really cornering the market unless you buy up ALL the inventory. I assume Sam was only considering buying out SLP, not any of the active suppliers.

All or significant chunk ... close enough ...

Again, nothing wrong with it.

I bought 24 sets of 17x9 SS 10 spokes with tires last year from a track who had SS Camaros as school cars. I undercut everyone who was trying to sell their rims.

I, in effect, did the same thing. I didn't have ALL the rims, just enough to drive the market price.

Why do I feel as though this is an arguement?

No argument here. Actually just an interesting topic, at least to me.

I WAS curious about all those rims you had, though. I was wondering why you needed so many different sets of race tires at once. Actually, thank you. The price on those rims stayed low for a while after you had already sold out, so I still got a good deal (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Or maybe I bought them FROM you - don't remember.

That's cool ...

I bought the rims/tires as an investment and resold them all.
It took 2 trips in my long bed PU truck to get them all.
And you might have bought a set. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

It's not too often a "one time good deal" comes along like that ....
