So what do us racer types listen to?
I gotta have something on in the garage, and I installed a XM Satellite radio in our truck. My latest CD purchases. OutKast, and nine inch nails. My next will probably be Seven Mary Three, and the best of Hootie. BTW I LOVE 7mary3. AND in there newest CD the Economy Of Sound, it looks to me like they is autoxing(!), in some of the liner note pictures!! |

I know you asked Julie, but I've got an XM in my wife's car. We got the Roadie package. It is a smaller main unit, that includes an antenae, headphone jack style audio out, and car adapter. It also had a free certificate for a home hookup (extra antenae, cable with wall plug, and stand). The only thing that you will really want to watch out for is how it will connect to your radio. Fortunately, my wife's car has an aftermarket unit with A/V-in cables (vor DVD player). We were able to get a Radio Shack brand RCA-to-headphone wire and hook it straight in. I installed it all myself in about 30 minutes, including routing the cable to the rear of an SUV under carpet and behind body panels. I think that this package comes with a tape deck adapter. Or, you can get a little FM modulator that sends an FM signal to your radio.
There is also an XM radio unit that is a little larger, with the same car hardware, but hooks directly into a "boombox" style speaker for the home. It costs about $10 less, but the boombox is $100 and is not included. Check around on the internet. There is a place that makes a direct adapter that hooks up behind a stock GM radio and will accept RCA cables. It is like $69 though. But, then you can plug in an MP3 player or anything else with RCA jacks. |
