I dropped into Laguna Seca a few days ago while I was heading back to Canada after a vacation in AZ. We watched the Audi bunch having so much fun that I have convinced my wife to support me in a long haul back down there this season with my SCCA-legal GT1 car. Its just production-based and nowhere near as fast as purpose-built tube-frame 'real' GT1 cars, but I want to try that track before I get much older/fatter/slower. I have joined SCCA-SF Region in preparation, and see three SCCA events listed, one in early May, another in late June and another in early Oct. I could REALLY use some advice as I prep the car and plan the long trip down from British Columbia. Is there anyone on here that intends to compete in one or more of these weekends? This old 'newbie' could use all the local information he can get! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Well, I'm starting to pack the trailer for the long haul (1050 miles) South. The confirmation email came today from SCCA, so it makes me feel better to know I'm entered and the number that I put on the car (71) is the one I will be using for both classes. I do wonder about some things though. Can anyone tell me what the policy is on in-car radio frequencies? I printed out the track and nearby city freqs so I won't walk on any local stations. Who will care whether I use my radios or not? Do I have to register my frequencies with SCCA or the track? Another issue is arrival, I hope to be there as the paddock opens at 5:30 Thursday PM, but do I expect to join a really long line up that steep hill? I do have 4WD low range, but it won't be much fun crawling up there in a long line-up. Can I drive to the trailer in the morning with my tow vehicle and park there, or do they make you park outside and walk to your pit? Just newbie questions... Randy can confirm, but what they did a couple of years ago was let everybody in the front gate Thurs afternoon, and queue us up in a big spiral in the lot inside T5, left just over the bridge. Then at 5pm they released the queue - first in first out - into the paddock. It worked well, the paddock filled slowly, and Laguna lines rows so it's pretty well organized.

They used to make a big deal of getting the open trailers out of the paddock and up onto the hill after unloading. If you have a 50' stacker with awning and a motorhome that's OK, tho.

It's normal to reserve your truck spot at the car - the pit spots are deep, so I always parked the truck in front of the car, and coned the spot off if I left. Get there early and there won't be any problem with civvies clogging up your space - they usually show up mid day.

The supps might have some useful info, should have gotten them with your entry confirmation.

You're in a 90dB sound window Fri AM, might want to sit out, or just putt around, the first couple of laps. 101dB starts at 9AM.

I'm gonna try to get down there and say hi, and watch Fri qualifying.

Alan's got it down....however, they typically queue us up near the OUTSIDE of turn 5. Basically come in the gates, drive up the hill and about 100 feet after the ranger shack go SLIGHTLY left....more like a straight, but you jog around a tree there, and wait. You can get there anytime on Thursday.....SCCA folks get there early.

I did hear that the motorcycle races the weekend after ours means the pits might be tight....they installed a bunch of temporary grand stands everywhere.

As for the sound window...at 9am the window opens up, so we should only have 5 minutes of 90db....if they are late just a bit....maybe no 90db!

See ya there!
