I just did a small review on these tires a few weeks ago an another forum. Copy and pasted here for your reading pleasure...
QUOTE I've had 265/45/16 XS's on my Camaro for 2 seasons now. They are the most impressive street tire I've ever autocrossed on. ..... And the worst street tire I've ever street driven on.
The good: Super stiff sidewalls. Stick like an intermediate r-comp. Likes heat, which means they work well on heavier cars like mine. Less expensive than other uber street tires. Wear isn't bad for the grip they offer. And they just look cool. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool2.gif) The Bad: (This part really only applies to street driving) Hard as a rock and slippery in anthing less than 60 degree ambient temps. Noisy...very noisy. Cars on these tires with an autocross alignment will dart all over the road. Picks everything up off the road and throws it into the wheelwells/rockers. Downright scary in heavy rain. In summary: I hate them all the way to the autocross event, (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif) Love them at the event, (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif) and Hate them all the way home. Several of us ran NT05's (315 35 17 on all 4 corners) over the last 2 years and we are considering trying out the XS. How does the XS compare to the NT05? Several of us ran NT05's (315 35 17 on all 4 corners) over the last 2 years and we are considering trying out the XS. How does the XS compare to the NT05? What do think of the NT05 after 2 years of experience? I only run them for autocross and driving to and from the event. I have 15 events on my tires and somewhere around 1,000 - 1,500 street miles. On my tires, the wear bars are showing some wear on them. I could get maybe 3-5 more events out of my tires. I have 2 friends that drive on their tires all the time, approx. 3,000 street miles, approx. 15 events and their tires are completely bald. The street miles definitely take a toll on these tires. Approx. 1/2 of the events are on concrete which is reportedly tougher on tires than asphalt. I wonder if the 315 35's on all 4 corners would wear faster than the stock size 275 40's. The sidewalls are very stiff and good for handling. We run approx. 26 - 28 psi in the rear and 36 - 38 psi in the front. NT05's have a 200 treadwear rating and don't have as much grip as NT01's (100 treadwear) but allow us to run in a Street Mod Street tire class. There are 5 of us running NT05's (315 35 17 on all 4 corners). Collectively we wish they had more grip for how quickly they are wearing, but we may be asking too much for a street tire. We are thinking about running the Kumho Ecsta XS next year or some of us are considering switching to NT01's. We would like to get feedback from people running the Kumho Ecsta XS. |
