Used race tires don't seem to store well. I don't know how well new tires hold up in storage. It does help to keep them at a moderate temperature (protected from both heat AND cold) and seal them up in heavy black plastic "lawn & garden" garbage bags to keep out the air and light.
Race rubber is like very slow cure epoxy. I'm not sure whether the intial heat cycles are required to jump-start the process or if they start aging immediately. However, since these tires were probably made in 2003, they've already been stored for at least one winter (hopefully in somewhat controlled conditions). |
