I'm not sure where to ask this question, so I'll try here in General.
Has anyone moved their gas tank from above the axle to behind the rear seats?
I figure 2 small tanks with a connector to bridge them would work as well as stock.
The reason I want to do this is to rearrange the space in the car. The rear seat area is useless to me and I would like to regain the space taken up by the factory tank. Plus it seems safer if hit from behind. You'd just need to build a steel shield over the tank to isolate it from the cabin.
Any thoughts on this? Can it be done? Anyone already done it?

I basically need more space in the rear hatch area and have all this wasted space behind the seats. If I relocated it, I would lower the rear hatch sheetmetal and make the rear storage area much larger. I guess no one has done this before, especially on a street car with full interior.

Oh well, if anyone runs across any cars like this, let me know.
Thanks.
