I want to remove the airbag from the drivers side of my daily beater - geo metro. I have had it disconnected for a while now but it's uneeded weight. I removed the passenger one today (and glovebox - all seats except driver's were removed along with the spare & jack)
Do I need any special tools to take it out or do I just start unscrewing things? it looks like there are 2 torx heads that I might need to undo? |

I got it out despite the bolts being 2 T50 external torx bolts. Sears didn't have anything, when I got back in the car I used my sizing tool - a 5/16" hex socket - on noticed it fit pretty snug. I got my driver and sure enough it came right out without a struggle.
As for setting one off... maybe it'd be interesting to get one from a junkyard and set it off, I want to be able to put it back in. And steve... just pull the fuses. The metro had 2 under the steering column, I think the Camaro has them in the fuse block. The metro also had a plug that could be disconnected in the steering column and one under the glove box. I have seen switches for "passenger" airbags, they would probably work too. I'm thinking if you wanted to do some cutting & soldering you could probably pick up a simple switch at radioshack. |
