For my CMC car, why do I want a tach?

I can concede a shift lite, but a tach would be somewhat a nuisance or distraction, I am thinking.

I always thought having one of those sequential shiftlights (ala F1 style) would be cool. Gives you some notice before you have to shift but you don't have to look down either.
