For my CMC car, why do I want a tach?

I can concede a shift lite, but a tach would be somewhat a nuisance or distraction, I am thinking.

I would like to get a programmable, sequential shift light such as the one Lou G sells. I've even seen one designed to mount on the helmet so you just see the colors in peripheral vision. Like Rob said, I'd want to mount it higher than the tach.
