I also like the Jimmy! I've been wheelin' with some very trick Samurais out in the Sierras - hubby and I used to belong to a Jeep club. We have a '62 CJ-5 he built from the ground up about 15 years ago. It has a Buick 231 V6, TH 350, GM power steering, a custom narrowed Dana 44 up front with a Powertrax and stock Dana 44 in the back with a Lock-right. It also has 4 wheel disc brakes and a shower (essentially a catalytic converter on board the engine compartment that is heated with radiator water). It has a hose attachment for a bucket of water or a nearby stream and you are set to go. We even built a PVC pipe shower booth for folks and charged them a buck a shower for gas! Very popular on the trail. (IMG:

This year for a Christmas/anniversary present, today, (22 years!) I gave hubby a home theater. He put it together himself and got the "battlestation" operational about two days ago. Everyone should have one of these!
Sounds like nice Jeep. You CA folks have all the nice wheeling spots it seems.
There are some decent places on this side of the country but I'll just have to drive quite a bit.
I picked a Samurai because it is light enough to haul with a 1/2 ton truck (which I don't have anymore).
It'll be tough to turn one into a "family wheeler" but I think I can do it. I definately wanted to add an underhood shower. Except I was at Cabales a few days ago and noticed that Coleman makes a tent type shower with solar warmed water bladder. This shower combined with an underhood shower would be neat for those backwoods camps
I might skip right to Toyota axles, 35's and lots of sheetmetal trim along with a spring over and soft springs.
