I gave a friend the first ride and nearly scared the pants off of me, Brakes were still little green. That Detroit Locker really bites coming out of tight turns and coming in , well lets just say you better leave the sissy pants at home. :drive: Started with a full tank of fuel and ten minutes into the third session it started to run out . I pulled off and was headed to the gas station. I rounded the shell station there at the track and Kaboom all shat broke loose. I think it must of had a defect. I think this car is trying to pay me back from the stunt I pulled on it last year. |

QUOTE 2) Folks just don't know how to modulate it with their right foot. This is not the problem. The Detroit locker sold for the 4th gen 10 bolts is not the same as any other DL I have driven. I have driven them since the 60's - 70's when you could get them new from the factory on Hi-Po Fords. The original DL's worst habit was a loud clicking as you made a turn and the propensity to kick the car sideways with non-judicial use of the throttle. The 4th gen is called a C-Locker and has way too much internal slack in it. In fact, the material that came with the locker advised users to be aware of extra slop in the axles. I drove the thing on the street and when you cannot make a turn in a parking lot no matter how you touch the throttle there is something wrong. The slop in the axles was so severe that the banging would knock out the trunk mounted CD player. After a few hundred miles of this and one track excursion the DL was relegated to the pile of parts never to be used again. Use a DL in your 4th gen 10 bolt and be ready to break something. I'm not even thinking of drag racing so don't go there. In addition to the other bad habits the DL was screwing with the syncros and made it difficult to make a smooth 1-2 shift. It would scratch unless done perfectly, or just powershift and jam it in. I'm guessing the thing was remaining locked and introducing a flywheel effect on the trans output shaft. |
