I found this link on corner carvers and thought I'd share. This looks to be some form of "beater challenge", or "GRM 2006 challenge run amok".

My take is that it's a semi-serious semi-endurance race where everyone takes a break in the middle to have a couple beers, get some sleep, then do some more driving. A serious team can take the time to look over their car, but there doesn't seem to be any reward for doing so. It's the inaugural event, so I suspect they aren't sure how it's going to go down. Jason Jason, Listening to te discussion of the event at Bonneville, the 8 hour party section was every much a measure of endurance as the race portion. |
