I guess to me 'giving useful advice' and 'pumping someones ego' are different things altogether, but thats just me. Every single interaction they showed between Lou and that kid had Lou either ripping on him, belittling him, or threatening him. Sorry if I offended anyone by giving an opinion about Lou, perhaps they only included those scenes to make good TV, but I stand by what I said.
