Follow the link to "UPDATE: 2004 Devens Rules posted here" These are new regulations we need to follow in New England for 2004 on our Primary site, Devens Commerce Center in Ayer, Ma. (former Nat Tour Site). Of particular concern is bullet point 4. I here rumor the decibel limit may be close to 50 - hated to quote a number, but it does illustrate the seriousness. Tough for any of us, and the requirement for registration and insurance eliminate the P and M crowd, half the club and many current/former national champs. On occasion we'll use the lots at New Hampshire Int'l. which has had noise restrictions for the last few years. I believe the limit at NHIS is 90db. Clubs previously had the use of Weymouth NAS and lost the site (not commenting on what lost the site, just be informed it's gone for the moment), and New York lost the Griffiss (concrete) site. We were getting a few drivers from New York at regular events. Good sites in New England are getting harder and harder to find, and it seems just as hard to keep. I wanted to pass along the news for those who may be in a position of leadership in their local club. Take a proactive role in the care and feeding of your landlord and community. I'm not implying NER wasn't on the ball. They run a first rate event. It only takes one complaint from the community (my assumtion), or one bad apple, or ... you get the idea. I can only speculate on what prompted the changes, others know better than I. Regardless of the cause, the result is we're faced with not being able to compete locally. Hopefully we hear some promising news at our annual meeting next weekend. I know we're all holding our breath. |
