So, my 'old' PC was on it's last legs (with me) and I had become frustrated with it...
So... Dell's EOQ ended this past Monday... low and behold, they sent me a 50% off coupon for use on up to 5 'enterprise' level products. The sales guy literally laughed when he came up with this quote.... he said that this was SO far below Dell's cost that it was insane. He also said that in 5 years of being at Dell, he's never seen a deal like this. They came to my door this morning (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) (big picture warning) http://www.2000transam.com/gallery2/v/Rand...ageViewsIndex=3 (make sure you scroll right) I got together with a buddy of mine and bought 3 between the 2 of us. For what you can't see, it's running 2 146gig 15k SAS drives on a Perc5/i Take 1/2 of what you can configure it for on Dell's site. Add in 4 year onsite and accident protection = the weenar! And JUST because I bought this a couple days before my race event, I was cursed with broken brakes... murphy's law. This post has been edited by CJ-TA: May 2 2007, 02:29 AM |

That's awesome (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I've actually downgraded my host machine recently - went from a dual quad-core Xeon 5300 down to a dual-core C2D laptop, and I'm actually happier (yay 1TB FW800 RAID and mobility!). Of course, my most used computer is much, much smaller and slower... and (imho) infinitely cooler (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif) Hint - it's not a laptop... What's up with that graphics score? They don't sell decent graphics boards? I bought the absolute bottom end as the only options are business level cards.. all quadro cards are crap when it comes to performance. Bump up from the base was +$490. I ordered a 8800GTX along with it (the system) from Newegg for a couple bucks more than the +$490... it's not here yet. |

I've been running Vista since some of the very earliest builds.
I love it. This is my first shot at x64 and so far, so good. No issues have come up... yet. I hear and see a lot of complaints about Windows ME2, being slow, etc.. and honestly, you need a powerful machine to make Vista run properly.. I won't deny that. Once you run it on a powerful box, you won't look back. The weather, CPU meter, stock alerts, etc are all default widgets/gadgets for the Vista side bar... nifty little things. |
