I failed a sound level check last weekend at Fort Devins during an autox. Our limit was 95 dB @ 75feet and I was at 97.5 dB. I've got an average cam, kooks LTs with cats and Corsa exhaust. My local builder mentioned that he wasn't a fan of the Corsa mixed with cam and longtubes, and recommened the SLP dual/dual or a Magnaflow with a bullet on the I pipe.
So in my search for a new SLP dual/dual, I noticed these are pretty much off the market. Anyone selling a used one, or know where I could get one? |

Watch eBay and various F-body forums. I managed to hunt down a muffler and tailpipes last August but as you say, really tough to come by, and they don't go cheap.
Works though, I've got a similar setup, more cam and no cats, and it's a very good sounding exhaust. I had a 3 1/2" Mufflex before that. It was obnoxious and loud. This post has been edited by poSSum: Apr 26 2007, 08:25 PM |

Art has it right... they are tough to find used, much less new. Often times the i-pipe is cut at the axle to ease removal of the stock system. I think it's really just the muffler you want. Everything else could be fabricated locally.
After watching boards for about a year, I eventually stumbled upon a local who sold his for $225 IIRC. Mine was cut, and the i-pipe has a bend in it and it was oriented backwards... so instead of angling up away from the ground, it angles down. But a custom y-pipe is in my future anyway, so I'm putting up with it. |

A glimmer of hope ... not much help at the moment though.
QUOTE Art - SLP is currently building a model to do a run of the old systems, but nothing is definate. If in the near future they tell me that they will build it, I will let you know.

There was a guy on Tech selling a dual-dual muffler only... but it was set up for a true dual system... 2 inlets, 2 outlets

Another positive side to this system is that the flow is great !
I tested it against a LoudMouth, as I was told that there wasn't much to be gained from the LM (which is basically hollow piping) and to my surprise they were correct ......just hate that added weight. I had only minor bolt ons, but the difference was around 5 RWHP & 3 RWTQ......if I remember correctly. |

I've found quite a bit of the center mount SLP exhausts on ebay coming from later model SS cars. Is this essentially the same system as the dual/dual except center mount pipes?

One thing is for sure. They don't sell cheap. I tried getting one on Ebay this weekend and it went for over 600 bucks used

While I'm a huge fan of the tips, I can get you a new Magnaflow (also straight through) for way less than $600. You won't fail sound with that!

Are they really that much quieter than a Corsa with a heads, cam, longtube setup? Ive been recommended by my local ls1 builder (slowhawk) the dual dual is the way to go, and if not a Magnaflow with a bullet in the I pipe will work also. |

I'm running a Magnaflow on a stock LT1 and I'm no where near sound at Devens. 88db at one event IIRC....should leave you some wiggle room.
Granted, you're on long tubes, but you still have cats, right? bills was peaking sound at Devens with heads, cam, long tubes, no cats?, and a loudmouth. |

I have the catted Kooks ypipe. Makes lower idle and mild throttle sound really nice on my car. Its that release of the pedal off WOT that really belches out a horrible sound at you

Trust my, a Magnaflow will be fine. And much quieter than what you have. I've never been impressed with Corsa's personallly, and there is no packing in there. Also one of my best friend's Firebird is a clone of my car. Headers and all. I have a Loudmouth, he has a Magnaflow. I'd get tossed out of Devens with my car starting it on the trailer. Karl's car would have no problem making sound there at all.
There are many options, it just the Magnaflow is great bang for the buck. Again, I'm not a fan of the big 'ol honking tips on the Camaro, but the fit and sound has been great. We just put one on the Mustang.... This will do the job, I'm sure of it. If it doesn't you can add a bullet muffler to the I-pipe. |

I just decided to order a new Magnaflow and see how it works out by itself, because I can do that work myself and it's the cheapest route. If its too loud, they can turn me away and I'll come back with a bullet welded on the I-pipe for the next event.

need a price (you were going to call me, weren't you)? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I think its a law to forget that you have the parts as well as other places. Sorry I totally forgot to contact you and that you'd have it. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) |

You need to stop that..... After all, it's not like I didn't have something to do with some of the parts you have under you car already. And how can you forget me so easily? It's not like I'm not on frrax most every day.
